Synthesis and Crystal Structures of Mn(II)- and Ni(II)-Dicarboxylate Complexes with 1,10-Phenanthroline

  • Two new metal(II) complexes, $[Mn(dpa)(phen)(H_2O)_2]_n$ (1) ($H_2dpa$ = dephenic acid, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) and $[Ni_2(nda)(phen)_2(H_2O)_6](nda)(H_2O)$ (2) ($H_2nda$ = 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. In complex 1, Mn(II) ion is six-coordinated, and Mn(II) ions are bridged by dpa ligands into 1D chains. While, the complex 2 is dimer and two Ni(II) ions are bridged by one nda ligand cooperated with the terminal ligand phen. In each complex, the dicarboxylate ligand is coordinated to metal(II) ions as a bis-monodentate.

Syntheses, Structures and Luminescent Properties of Two Novel M(II)-Phen-SIP Supramolecular Compounds (M = Co, Ni)

  • Two metal compounds, $[Co(phen)_2(H_2O)_2]{\cdot}2H_2SIP{\cdot}2H_2O$ 1 and $[Ni(phen)_3]{\cdot}2H_2SIP{\cdot}3H_2O$ 2, have been obtained by incorporating 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) and 5-sulfoisophthalic acid monosodium salt ($NaH_2SIP$) ligands under hydrothermal conditions. Meanwhile, the two compounds were characterized by element analysis, IR, XRD, TG-DTA and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both 1 and 2 present 3D supramolecular structures via O-H${\cdots}$O hydrogen bond interactions. Luminescent properties for 1 and 2 were also studied. The compound 1 has two fluorescence emission peaks centered at 398 nm attributed to the intraligand emission from the SIP ligand and at 438 nm assigned to the combined interaction of intraligand ${\pi}^*-{\pi}$ transitions of the phen ligand and ligand-to-metal-charge-transfer (LMCT) transitions (${\lambda}_{ex}$ = 233 nm). The compound 2 shows one emission band centered at 423 nm with a shoulder peak at 434 nm which may be originated from the intraligand ${\pi}^*-{\pi}$ transitions of the phen ligand (${\lambda}_{ex}$ = 266 nm).

  • The metal-ligand complex, [Ru(phen)$_2$(dppz)]^{2+}$ (phen = 1.10-phenanthroline, dppz = dipyrido[3.2-a:2', 3'-c]phenazine) (RuPD), was used as a spectroscopic probe for studying nucleic acid dynamics. The RuPD complex displays a long lifetime and a molecular light switch property upon DNA binding due to shielding of its dppz ligand from water. (omitted)

DNA Mediated Energy Transfer from 4',6-Diamidino-2-phenylindole to Ru(II)[(1,10-phenanthroline)2L]2+ : Effect of Ligand Structure

  • It was proposed that Ru(II)[(1,10-phenanthroline)$_2$dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine ([Ru(phen)$_2$DPPZ]$^{2+}$)complexes and 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) simultaneously bind to poly[d(A-T)$_2$] (Biophysics. J. 2003, 85, 3865). Förster type resonance energy transfer from excited DAPI to [Ru(phen)2DPPZ]$^{2+}$ complexes was observed. In this study, we synthesized $\Delta$- and $\wedge$-[Ru(phenanthroline)$_2$dipyrido[3,2-a:2’3’c]6-azaphenazine] ([Ru(phen)$_2$DPAPZ]$^{2+}$) at which the DNA intercalating ligand DPPZ was replaced and we studied its binding properties to poly[d(A-T)$_2$] in the presence and absence of DAPI using polarized spectroscopy and fluorescence techniques. All the spectroscopic properties of the [Ru(phen)$_2$DPAPZ]$^{2+}$-poly[d(A-T)$_2$] complex were the same in the presence and absence of DAPI that blocks the minor groove of polynucleotide, suggesting both $\Delta$- and $\wedge$-[Ru(phen)$_2$DPAPZ]$^{2+}$ complexes are located at the major groove of poly[d(A-T)2]. On the other hand, in contrast with [Ru(phen)$_2$DPPZ]$^{2+}$, both $\Delta$- and $\wedge$-[Ru(phen)$_2$DPAPZ]$^{2+}$ exhibited almost twice the efficiency in the fluorescence quenching of DAPI that binds at the minor groove of poly[d(A-T)$_2$]. This observation indicates that the efficiency of the Förster type resonance energy transfer can be controlled by a small change in the chemical structure of the intercalated ligand.

  • 이핵 화합물, $Ag_2$[Phen]_2[S_2P(OPr)_2]_2$(Phen=1,10-phenanthroline; Pr=propyl)은 비스(디프로필디싸이오포스페이토) 은(|)화합물과 1,10 펜안트로린 리간드 반응에 의하여 합성되었고, 그 화합물 구조는 X-ray에 의하여 규명되었다. 두 디프로필디싸이오포스페이토 리간드는 두 개의 은 원자를 연결하여 팔각형 $Ag_2S_4P_2$ 고리를 형성하였고, 1,10-펜안트로린 리간드는 은 이온과 결합하여 사면체구조를 이루었다. Ag-S 결합거리는 2.471(1)와 2.567(1) ${\AA}$이었고, Ag-N 결합 거리는 2.3666(3)와 2.471(3) ${\AA}$이었다.

  • $[{Mo(NO)_2Cl_2}_n]$$[{W(NO)_2Cl_2}_n]$의 다핵착물과 킬레이트 리간드인 1,10-phenanthroline을 반응시켜 중성화합물인 $[Mo(NO)_2Cl_2(phen)]$$[W(NO)_2Cl_2(phen)]$을 각각 합성하였다. 아세톤 용매에서 이 cis-디니트로실 화합물과 과염소산 은(I)을 1:1로 반응시켜 $[Mo(NO)_2(phen)(S)Cl][ClO_4]$$[W(NO)_2(phen)(S)Cl] [ClO_4]$ (S = acetone)의 양이온 화합물을 얻었다. 이 1가 양이온 화합물과 피라진을 2:1의 양론으로 각각 반응시켜 $[Cl(phen)(NO)_2M(pyz)M'(NO)_2(phen)Cl][C1O_4]_2$(M = Mo, M' = W) 및 $[Cl(phen)(NO)_2M(pyz)M'(NO)2(phen)Cl][C1O4]2$(M = Mo, M' = W)형의 호모 및 헤테로 이핵착물을 합성하였다. 합성한 착물의 특성은 원소분석과, $^1H-,\;^{13}C-$핵자기 공명 및 자외선, 전자흡수스펙트럼을 이용해서 조사하였으며 이들 분광학적 결과로부터 디니트로실 이핵착물의 기하학적 구조가 피라진 다리 리간드를 중심으로 한 $C_{2v}$ 대칭구조임을 확인할 수 있었다.

Synthesis and Structures of Two Lanthanide Complexes Containing a Mixed Ligand System: [Ln(Phen)2(L)3(HL)]·H2O [Ln = La, Ce: Phen = Phenanthroline: HL = Salicylic Acid]

  • The reaction of $LnCl_3{\cdot}7H_2O$ [Ln = La (1), Ce (2)] with salicylic acid (HL) and 1,10-phenanthroline (Phen) at $20^{\circ}C$ in $H_2O$/ethanol gave after work-up and recrystallization two novel lanthanide complexes with general formula $[Ln(Phen)_2(L)_3(HL)]{\cdot}H_2O$. Compounds 1 and 2 were characterized by IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy, TGA, CHN as well as by X-ray analysis. According to these results, compounds 1 and 2 are isostructural and contain $Ln^{3+}$ ions with coordination number nine. Complexes 1 and 2 consist of two Phen, one neutral HL and three L anions (two L anions act as monodentate ligands and the third one is chelating to $Ln^{3+}$). Thermal decomposition led to primary loss of the Phen molecules. Then HL molecules and finally L moieties left the material to give $Ln_2O_3$.

Structure of Chloro bis(1,10-phenanthroline)Cobalt(II) Complex, [Co(phen)2(Cl)(H2O)]Cl·2H2O

  • $[Co(phen)_2(Cl)(H_2O)] Clㆍ2H_2O$(phen=1,10-phenanthroline)의 결정구조는 X-ray에 의하여 결정되었다. 그 결정은 a=9.662(2), b=11.445(1), c=13.037(2)${\AA}$ ${\alpha}$=64.02(1), ${\beta}$=86.364(9), ${\gamma}=78.58(2)^°$ 그리고 Z=2의 격자인자를 갖는 triclinic계와 space group이 P1의 구조로 결정화 되었다. 배위된 양이온은 두개의 Phen 리간드, 하나의 chloride이온과 하나의 $H_2O$ 리간드가 cis 배열로 킬레이크된 6배위 코발트 원자가 포함된다. 코발트에 배위된 chloride에 더해서, 결정구조를 이루는 하나의 chloride이온과 네개의 물분자가 있다. 고체상태에서, 제목의 화합물은 수소결합을 통하여 3차원 그물구조를 갖는다.

The Soft Material Obtained from an Europium (III)-Containing Ionic Liquid

  • The addition of organic ligand (${\beta}$-diketone or heterocyclic compound) to the europium (III)-containing ionic liquid resulted in bright luminescent soft materials with the molar ratio of europium/ionic liquid (IL)/ligand being 1:3:1 that exhibit bright red light under UV lamp. The luminescent properties such as emission features and lifetime of $^5D_0$ $Eu^{3+}$ excited level are dependent on the organic ligands. The materials were characterized by FT-IR and luminescence spectroscopy. The data shows that at least parts of the ILs (carboxylic acid) are replaced with ${\beta}$-diketone ligand rather than the formation of europium complex with the molar ratio of $Eu^{3+}$:IL: ligand being 1:3:1, while no ILs could be replaced by the heterocyclic ligand such as Bpy and Phen.

  • The diamagnetic six-coordinate ruthenium polypyridyl complexes have been prepared and assigned. 1H NMR spectral studies were used to unravel the ligand field strength and the basicity on the chemical shift to the particular proton of ligand L in [(tpy)(L)RuⅡ(X)]+/2+ (L=bpy, bqi, dmbpy, phen; X=Cl, CN, N3, NCCD3, NO2, SCN) complexes.
