  • This paper aims to investigate the effect of rotation on a micropolar thermoelastic medium with voids problem. The problem is assessed according to three-phase-lag model. The normal mode analysis used to obtain the analytical expressions of the considered variables. The non-dimensional displacement, temperature, Micro rotation, the change in the volume fraction field, and stress of the material are obtained and illustrated graphically. Comparisons are made with the results predicted by two theories; namely three- phase-lag model (3PHL) and Green-Naghdi theory of type III (G-N III). The considered variables were plotted for different values of the rotation parameter, the phase-lag of heat flux and the phase-lag of temperature. The numerical results reveal that the rotation and the phase-lag times significantly influence the distribution of the field quantities. Some particular cases of interest are deduced from the present investigation.

  • The distributions of electric field and induced second-order nonlinearity are analyzed in the periodic poling of optical fibers. A quasi-phase matching efficiency for the induced nonlinearity is calculated in terms of both the electrode separation distance between the applied voltage and generalized electrode width for the periodic poling. Our analysis of the quasi-phase matching efficiency implies that the conversion efficiency can be enhanced through adjusting the separation distance, and the electrode width can be maximized if the electrode width is optimized.

  • Since PVDF/poly(1,4-butylene adipate) blend shows much lower LCST curve compared with PVDF/PMMA blend, the PVDF/PBA blend can be a good candidate for investigating the effect of the electric field on the phase separation and dissolution behavior of an electro-active polymer and electro-inactive polymer blend. • From extensive measurements of the resistance and the dynamic resistance as functions of magnetic field and temperature, we find that the transport in the insulating state beyond the superconductor-insulator (S-I) transition is dominated by bosons(Cooper pairs and/or vortices) and cannot be described by the theory of the fermionic insulating phase. The maximum of the magnetoresistance at B = B$_m$ and the following negative slope in R(B) with increasing field can be explained by the crossover from the "Bose-glass" to the "Fermi-glass" phase as suggested by Paalanen, Hebard, and Ruel. The zero bias peak in dv/dl for biases below the characteristic voltage V$_c$ (or current $I_c$), gives a clue for the assumption of the "dirty boson" model which states that the insulating state above the critical magnetic field is the phase where Cooper pairs are localized due to the Coulomb blockade with a nonvanishing order parameter. The shift to a lower value of the critical magnetic field by overlaying thin Au layer, which is known as a strong spin-orbit scatterer, also supports the bosonic nature of the S-I transition.

  • The electrocaloric effect can be observed in pyroelectric materials based on conversion between electrical and thermal energy, and can be utilized for the future environment-friendly refrigeration technology. Especially, a strong electrocaloric effect is expected in materials in which field-induced phase transition can be achieved. Emerging fluorite-structure ferroelectrics such as doped hafnia and zirconia, first discovered in 2011, are considered the most promising materials for next-generation semiconductor devices. Besides application of fluorite-structure ferroelectrics for semiconductor devices based on their scalability and CMOS-compatibility, field-induced phase transition has been suggested as another interesting phenomenon for various energy-related applications such as solid-state cooling with electrocaloric effect as well as energy conversion/storage and IR/piezoelectric sensors. Especially, their giant electrocaloric effect is considered promising for solid-state-cooling. However, the electrocaloric effect of fluorite-structure oxides based on field-induced phase transition has not been reviewed to date. In this review, therefore, the electrocaloric effect accompanied by field-induced phase transition in fluorite-structure ferroelectrics is comprehensively reviewed from fundamentals to potential applications.

  • The loading capacity of engineering structures/components reduces after the initiation and propagation of crack eventually leads to the final failure. Hence, it becomes essential to deal with the crack and its effects at the design and simulation stages itself, by detecting the prone area of the fracture. The phase-field (PF) method has been accepted widely in simulating fracture problems in complex geometries. However, most of the PF methods are formulated with second order continuity theoryinvolving C0 continuity. In the present study, PF method based on fourth-order (i.e., higher order) theory, maintaining C1 continuity has been proposed for ductile fracture simulation. The formulation includes fourth-order derivative terms of phase field variable, varying between 0 and 1. Applications of fourth-order PF theory to ductile fracture simulation resulted in novelty in this area. The proposed formulation is numerically solved using a two-dimensional finite element (FE) framework in 3-layered manner system. The solutions thus obtained from the proposed fourth order theory for different benchmark problems portray the improvement in the accuracy of the numerical results and are well matched with experimental results available in the literature. These results are also compared with second-order PF theory and a comparison study demonstrated the robustness of the proposed model in capturing ductile behaviour close to experimental observations.

  • To convert into multiphase from single phase are often necessary for industry field. In oder to convert of phase, phase shifted voltages are first buileded by single phase and then must combine with these voltages adequately. This paper aims at the description of the way of phase shift by means of turning on or turning off through natural commutation and forced commutation methods with firing angle of thyristor pating a role of switching controlled adequately. Experimental result of the Phase Shift with the Thyristors Utilized has been turned out to shift the phase to 60.deg., 90.deg., 120.deg., and other angles.

  • We have investigated electric field effect on the formation of phase separated composite organic film structure which is utilized by anisotropic phase separation from LC and prepolymer mixtures. Application of bias field resulted in a significant change in liquid crystal alignment between glass substrate and polymer layer. The liquid crystal molecules segregated into the inter-electrodes and formed twisted structure which is the result of imprinting of LC alignment by the bias field on polymer layers during polymerization process.

  • A thermal-hydraulic code, named CUPID, has been developed for the analysis of transient two-phase flows in nuclear reactor components. A two-fluid three-field model was used for steam-water two-phase flows. To obtain numerical solutions, the finite volume method was applied over unstructured cell-centered meshes. In steam-water two-phase flows, a phase change, i.e., evaporation or condensation, results in a great change in the flow field because of substantial density difference between liquid and vapor phases. Thus, two-phase flows are very sensitive to the local pressure distribution that determines the phase change. This in turn puts emphasis on the accurate evaluation of local pressure gradient. This paper presents a new reconstruction method to evaluate the pressure gradient at cell centers on unstructured meshes. The results of the new scheme for a simple test function, a gravity-driven cavity, and a wall boiling two-phase flow are compared with those of the previous schemes in the CUPID code.
