  • This paper studies the bifurcation of combinatorial oscillations in coupled Duffing’s circuits when symmetry is broken. The system consists of two periodic farced circuits coupled by a linear resistor, These two periodic external forces are sinusoidal voltage sources with various phase-shift. We investigate the relation between phase-shift and periodic solutions by analyzing many bifurcation diagrams.

  • Open microcellular foams having small-sized cell and good mechanical properties are desirable for many practical applications. As an effort to reduce the cell size, the microcellular foams combining viscosity improvers into the conventional formulation of styrene and water system were prepared via high internal phase emulsion polymerization. Since the material properties of foam are closely related to the solution properties of emulsion state before polymerization, the flow behavior of emulsions was investigated using a controlled stress rheometer. The yield stress and the storage modulus increased as viscosity improver concentration and agitation speed increased, due to the reduced cell size reflecting both a competition between the continuous phase viscosity and the viscosity ratio and an increase of shear force. Appreciable tendency was found between the rheological data of emulsions and the cell sizes of polymerized foams. Cell size reduction with the concentration of viscosity improver could be explained by the relation between capillary number and viscosity ratio. A correlative study for the cell size reduction with agitation speed was also attempted and the result was in a good accordance with the hydrodynamic theory.

  • In this work, the surface integrity smoothened with a ball end mill was investigated. Because surface integrity mainly affects the manual finishing process, $RV_{AM}$(Remaining Volume After Machining) was introduced, and it gives the relation between machining process and finishing process. Runout and phase shift which adversely affect surface integrity were considered in the generation of surface topography. Cutting points in ball end milling were identified with positional vectors and a set of vectors which have the minimum height in unit area was selected for the generation of surface and $RV_{AM}$. $RV_{AM}$ variation according to runout and phase shift was calculated and experimentally verified in proposed HSM conditions for mold machining. From the simulations and the experiments, a desirable High Speed Machining condition was suggested.

  • We have fabricated BSCCO 2223 by modified two powder process and investigated 2223 phase formation and grain growth. Phase evolution and reactivity of 2223 were remarkably sensitive to size of 2212 grains and liquid phase. Larger size of 2212 phase increased liquid formation temperature. The Avrami relation was well suited for describing the kinetics of grain growth in BSCCO 2223.

  • The right half plane (RHP) zeros may cause severe problems, such as undershoots, oscillations and time delay in the transient response of the systems. In this paper, we formulate a linear quadratic type problem to deal with the effects of the RHP zeros in the nonminimum phase systems. Based on the LQ formulation, this paper shows the trade-off relation between undershoot and rising time performances in nonminimum phase systems by using a new performance index which consists of new state and tracking error. And performances of the proposed method are shown via computer simulations.

  • This paper presents a new output phase assignment algorithm which determines the phases of all the nodes in a given boolean network. An estimation function is defined, which is represented by the relation between the literals in the given function expression. A weight function, WT (fi, fj) is defined, which is represented by approximate amount of common subexpression between function fi and fj. Common Subexpression Graph(CSG) is generated for phase selection by the weight function between all given functions. We propose a heuristic algorithm finding subgraph of which sum of weights has maximum by assigning phases into the given functions. The experiments with MCNC benchmarks show the efficiency of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, the static overmodulation is proposed for the 2-phase full bridge inverter. The overmodulation strategy increases a fundamental output voltage and improves a voltage utilization up to the maximum in the overmodulation range. The linear modulation range and static overmodulation range are defined in the 2-phase full bridge inverter. The overmodulation strategies which increase a voltage utilization until the 4-step mode by linearization of the output voltage in overmodulation range are proposed. To maintain a linearity of the relation between a reference voltage and a fundamental output voltage, this paper suggests a compensation voltage, whose magnitude or phase is modified to the proposed control scheme. Simulation and experimentation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

  • This study dealt with the experimental modal analysis of the perforated rectangular plate coupled with fluid. The natural frequencies of the perforated plate and solid plate in air were obtained by the analytical method based on the relation between the reference kinetic and maximum potential energy and compared with the experimental results. Good agreement between the results was found for the natural frequencies of the perforated plate in air. It was empirically found the natural frequencies of the perforated plate coupled with fluid. The transverse vibration modes, in-phase and out-of-phase, were observed alternately in the fluid-coupled system. Additionally, the effect of distance between perforated plate and solid plate on the fluid-coupled natural frequency was investigated.

  • It is very crucial to make the phase holograms have the exact phase difference in the fabrication process. We have developed a fabrication criterion of obtaining the exact phase difference of the holograms by using the relation between the zeroth order intensity of diffected beam and the relative phsse difference of the fabricaated holograms. We have fabricated holograms having phaes of .pi. and .pi./2, respectively, and we could get multi-phase holograms by combining these two binary thase holograms.

  • An evaporating diesel spray of a common rail lnjector was visualized by LIEF technique. This technique makes it possible to separate the vapor and liquid phase images. The experiment was conducted in a constant volume vessel to make a high temperature and high pressure condition. Three images(vapor and liquid phase images from LIEF and a liquid phase image from Mie scattering) were taken simultaneously in one spray event. The major experimental parameters are the injection pressure and the ambient gas pressure. Also, a relative SMD distribution in a liquid phase was obtained by the ratio of the intensities of the fluorescence and the Mie scattering. The results show that the injection pressure and the ambient gas pressure have a close relation with the spray development and air-fuel muting process.
