Implementation of a closed-loop signal processor for the open-loop FOG (개회로 FOG의 폐회로 신호처리기의 구현)

  • A signal processor is implemented to verify the possibility of a closed-loop signal processing for the open-loop fiber-optic gyroscope (FOG). As an all-digital implementation of phase tracking scheme, it does analog-to digital conversion of the detector output and signal processing all-digitally thereafter for a noise-immune FOG signal processor. It has a potential of 36-bits resolution in the $2\pi$ range which is best in the number and sets no limit in the magnitude of the phase shift. The new signal processor was tested on an all-fiber gyroscope and turned out to have a resolution of $3\mu$rad(corresponds to 0.74 deg/hr), which is good enough to measure the Earth's rotation rate.

  • We fabricated the Pb$_{1-0.28{\alpha}}La_{0.28}TiO_{3}$ (PLT(28)) thin film successfully by using the sol-gel method and characterized it to evaluate its potential for being utilized as the capacitor dielectrics of ULSI DRAMs. In our sol-gel process, the acetates were used as the starting materials. Through the TGA-DTA analysis, we established the excellent fabrication conditions of the sol-gel method for the PLT(28) thin film. We obtained the dense and crack-free PLT(28) thin film of 100% perovskite phase by drying at 350$^{\circ}C$ after each coating and final annealing at 650$^{\circ}C$. Its electrical properties were measured from the planar capacitors fabricated on the Pt/Ti/SiO$_{2}$/Si substrate. By the P-E hysteresis measurement, its paraelectric phase was identified and its dielectric constant and leakage current density were measured as 936 and 1.1${\mu}A/cm^{2}$, respectively. Those electrical values indicate that the PLT(28) thin film is the most successful candidate for the capacitor dielectrics of ULSI DRAMs at the present.

Effects of Ubiquitin-conjugating Enzyme 2C on Invasion, Proliferation and Cell Cycling of Lung Cancer Cells

  • The aims of this study were to investigate the influence of ubiquitin- conjugating enzyme E2C (UBE2C) on biological behavior of lung cancer cells. Using MTT, flow cytometry and invasion assays, we detected UBE2C expression and evaluated its biological properties in these cells, including effects on proliferation, the cell cycle profile and invasive capability. Compared with control cells, the UBE2C transfected cells demonstrated increased cellular proliferation (p<0.05). UBE2C transfected cells also had a lower percentage in G1 phase and a higher percentage in S phase (p<0.05). Importantly, the UBE2C transfected cells had a notable enhancement of cell numbers penetrating the basement membrane compared with the control group (p<0.05). Ectopic up-regulation UBE2C promoted the growth of lung cancer cells in vivo. Furthermore, we found UBE2C increased the expression of cyclin D1 and MMP-2. These results show UBE2C may represent a potential therapeutic target for lung cancer.

  • Recently, with the rapid development in the oceanic systems such as the oceanic structures and vessel, there occurs much interest in the impingement erosion-corrosion. In this paper, Cu-metal was tested by using of erosion apparatus with water-jet type and was investigated under the behaviour of impingement erosion-corrosion according to various environmental conditions, and the properties of Cu-metal were evaluated through the measurement by weight loss, weight loss rate, protective efficiency. The results were compared with those obtained using Cu-metal applied to cathodic protection and Cu-alloys added to Zn or Al-metal. As a basis of those results, the best protective efficiencies could be taken as using cathodic protection method and Cu-alloy with Al & Zn material addings, and will be suggested as the fundamental data of the anti-impingement erosion-corrosion on Cu-metal of impeller material for oceanic centrifugal pump.

  • Multiferroic materials have attracted much attention due to their own fascinating fundamental physical properties and potential technological applications to magnetic/ferroelectric data storage systems, quantum electromagnets, spintronics, and sensor devices. Among single-phase multiferroic materials, $BiFeO_3$, in particular, has received considerable attention because the enhanced ferromagnetism was found by the Fe-site ion substitution with magnetic ions. The structural, the magnetic and the ferroelectric properties of polycrystalline $BiFe_{1-x}Ni_xO_3$ (x=0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03 and 0.05), which were prepared by the solid-state reaction and the rapid-sintering method, have been investigated. The x-ray diffraction patterns reveal that all the samples are in single phase and show rhombohedral structure with R3c space group. The magnetic properties are enhanced according to the doping content. The Ni-doped $BiFeO_3$ samples exhibit lossy P-E loop due to the oxygen vacancy. The leakage current density of Ni-doped samples (x=0.01 and 0.02) is increased by four orders of magnitude. On the other hand, the x=0.03 and 0.05 samples show the relative reduction of the leakage current.

  • In this work, we describes analysis of the antioxidant potential of Korean green tea phenolics using an high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) on-line $ABTS^{+}$ antioxidant screening method. In conjunction with the analysis of their 2,2'-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS+) radical scavenging ability, the extraction of catechine compounds from Korean green tea were performed by various temperature and time. The optimum operating conditions were experimentally determined to analyze the catechine compounds in the pretreatment extracts. From the results, the extraction temperature $60^{\circ}C$, time 3 min was selected as an optimal antioxidant activity condition. The analysis by $C_{18}$ column was performed, the flow rate of mobile phase and UV wavelength was fixed at 1.0 ml/min and 254 nm, respectively. the mobile phase was composed from acetonitrile and water, and the gradient elution mode were applied.

Electrochemical Characteristics of Welded Stainless Steels Containing Ti (Ti 함유된 스테인리스강 용접부의 전기화학적 특성)

  • Electrochemical characteristics of welded stainless steels containing Ti have been studied by using the electrochemical techniques in 0.5 M $H_2SO_4$+0.01 M KSCN solutions at $25^{\circ}C$. Stainless steels with 12 mm thick-ness containing $0.2{\~}0.9 wt\%$ Ti were fabricated with vacuum melting and following rolling process. The stainless steels were solutionized for 1hr at $1050^{\circ}C$ and welded by MIG method. Samples were individually prepared with welded zone, heat affected zone, and matrix for intergranular corrosion and pitting test. Optical microscope, XRD and SEM are used for analysing microstructure, surface and corrosion morphology of the stainless steels. The welded zone of the stainless steel with lower Ti content have shown dendrite structure mixed with $\gamma$ and $\delta$ phase. The Cr-carbides were precipitated at twin and grain boundary in heat affected zone of the steel and also the matrix had the typical solutionized structure. The result of electrochemical measurements showed that the corrosion potential of welded stainless steel were Increased with higher Ti content. On the other hand, reactivation($I_r$), passivation and active current($I_a$) density were decreased with higher Ti content. In the case of lower Ti content, the corrosion attack of welded stainless steel was remarkably occurred along intergranular boundary and ${\gamma}/{\delta}$ phase boundary in heat affected zone.

  • Recently, mesoporous metallic materials are becoming more and more important in various applications like catalysts, electrochemical detectors, batteries, and fuel cells because of their high surface area. Among the various methods for manufacturing mesoporous structure, surfactant templating method followed by electroplating has been tried in this study. A mesoporous metallic film was prepared by electrodeposition from electroplating solution mixed with surfactant template. Nonionic type lyotropic liquid crystalline surfactant, Brij56, and nickel acetate based solution were selected as a template material and electroplating solution, respectively. To determine the content of surfactant forming a hexagonal column structure, the phase diagram of electroplating solution and surfactant mixture has been exploited by polarized optical microscopy equipped with heating and cooling stage. Nickel films were electroplated on Cu foil by stepwise potential input method to alleviate the concentration polarization occurred during the electroplating process. TEM and XRD analyses were performed to characterize the size and shape of mesostructures in manufactured nickel films, and electrochemical characterization was also carried out using cyclic voltammetry.

Tetrazolium Violet Induced Apoptosis and Cell Cycle Arrest in Human Lung Cancer A549 Cells

  • Tetrazolium violet is a tetrazolium salt and has been proposed as an antitumor agent. In this study, we reported for the first time that tetrazolium violet not only inhibited human lung cancer A549 cell proliferation but also induced apoptosis and blocked cell cycle progression in the G1 phase. The results showed that tetrazolium violet significantly decreased the viability of A549 cells at $5-15{\mu}M$. Tetrazolium violet -induced apoptosis in A549 cells was confirmed by H33258 staining assay. In A549, tetrazolium violet blocked the progression of the cell cycle at G1 phase by inducing p53 expression and further up-regulating p21/WAF1 expression. In addition, an enhancement in Fas/APO-1 and its two forms of ligands, membrane-bound Fas ligand (mFasL) and soluble Fas ligand (sFasL), as well as caspase, were responsible for the apoptotic effect induced by tetrazolium violet. The conclusion of this study is that tetrazolium violet induced p53 expression which caused cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. These findings suggest that tetrazolium violet has strong potential for development as an agent for treatment lung cancer.
