  • In this paper, pulse-width modulation (PWM) control strategy of various topologies of matrix converters is presented, which is based on direct duty ratio PWM (DDPWM). Because the DDPWM method has the characteristics of the inherent per-phase modular structure, it can be effectively applied to single-phase, two-phase and three-phase four-leg matrix converters as well as the common three-phase to three-phase matrix converter. Also, this paper treats command generation method in each matrix converter. The feasibility and validity of the proposed method are verified by experimental results.

  • [ $TiO_2$ ] nanoparticle was synthesized by the flame method, which was controlled by varying the ratio and flow rate of gas mixtures consisting of oxygen (oxidizer), methane (fuel) and nitrogen (carrier gas). The crystalline phases of $TiO_2$ nanoparticle depended strongly on the temperature distribution in the flame, whereas the morphology was not sensitive. We proved that the anatase phase formed without the phase transformation in the flame and the rutile phase generated through several phase transformations.

  • The phase currents must be accurately measured to achieve the instantaneous torque control of AC motors. In general, those are measured using the current sensors. However, the measured current signals can include the offset errors and scaling errors by several components such as current sensors, analog amplifiers, noise filter circuits, and analog-to-digital converters. Therefore, the torque-controlled performance can be deteriorated by the current measurement errors. In this paper we have analyzed the influence caused by vector control of 2-phase induction motor when two errors are included in measured phase currents. Based on analyzed results, the compensation method is proposed without additional hardware. The proposed compensation method was applied vector-controlled inverter for 2-phase induction motor of 360[W] class and verified through computer simulations and experiments.

  • In this paper, we present the direction finding accuracy of correlative interferometer method and amplitude-phase comparison method. Spiral antennas are used for amplitude-phase comparison method and blade antennas are used for correlative interferometer method. Those are made for uniform circular array (UCA) direction finding antenna systems. We simulate the accuracy of azimuth angle with 3 antennas UCA when SNR is 20 dB and baseline is 0.5 wave length. Correlative interferometer method has better accuracy than amplitude-phase comparison method.

  • There are generally two temperature control methods using ac voltage regulators - the phase control method and the on-off control method. The phase control method uses thyristor's angles of extinction for the output power regulation and the on-off control method uses the control of on and off times for the output power regulation. Both of methods have the problems that are the unbalance of the three phase and surge current caused system's destruction. The main object of this study proposes a solution of problems of surge currents and unbalance of three phase when thyristor voltage regulator is switching. To solve the problem, It is proposes that the solution of surge currents is using a tap transformer and an additional switch with adjustable resistance and applies zero crossing of switching voltage of two input line to power load. This method is discuss and verified by computer simulations and experiments.

  • Arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) phase errors are normally assessed from the Fourier transform of the interference intensity data in the frequency domain method. However it is possible to identify the phases directly from the intensity data if one adopts a trial-and-error method. Since the functional form of the intensity profile is known, the intensities can be calculated theoretically by assuming arbitrary phase errors. Then we decide the phases that give the best fit to the experimental data. We verified this method by a simulation. We calculated the intensities for an artificial AWG which is given arbitrary phases and amplitudes. Then we extracted the phases and amplitudes from the intensity data by using our trial-and-error method. The extracted values are in good agreement with the originally given values. This approach yields better results than the analysis using Fourier transforms.

  • The three-phase four-wire power distribution system can be used to supply power to single-phase and three-phase loads at the same time. There are linear loads and nonlinear loads as single-phase loads connected to each phase. The nonlinear load generates a harmonic current during the power energy conversion process. In particular, the single-phase nonlinear load has a higher proportion of generation of the third harmonic current than the harmonics of the other orders. In a three-phase four-wire system, the third harmonic current flows through the neutral wire to the power supply side, affecting the power supply side and the line. Furthermore, the magnitude of the current flowing in the neutral line can be higher than the current flowing in the individual phase. If the neutral current is higher than the phase current, the breaker may be blocked. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the amount of current flowing in the neutral line by harmonics. There is a method of zigzag connecting a single phase transformer by a method of reducing 3 harmonic current. In this study, the method of reducing the magnitude of the three harmonic currents flowing through the zigzag wire by comparing the polarity and the negative polarity characteristics of the single phase transformer was compared through measurement and simulation.

  • In this paper, we propose an improved side information processing scheme which is important in the sub-block phase weighting(SPW) method for the peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR) reduction. SPW method is to divide the input OFDM subchannels into several subblocks and to multiply phase weighting with each subblocks, properly for the reduction of the peak power. SPW method is similar to the conventional PTS method when the number of sub-carriers, signal modulation format and the number of subblocks are the same. However, unlike the conventional PTS(Partial Transmit Sequence) and SLM(Selected Mapping) method using many stages of IFFT(Inverse Fast Fourier Transform), SPW method only needs one IFFT. Although PAPR can be reduced by SPW method, complex computation burden still remains. In this paper the flipping algorithm and the full iteration algorithm are used f3r the phase control method. Through the computer simulation, we analyze and discuss the properties and the performance of the suggested method.

  • This paper presents the experimental results measured by photoelastic 4-step phase shifting method for the isochromatic fringe distribution in a TV glass panel. In the conventional photoelastic method, the isochromatic fringe orders are measured manually point by point. The 4-step phase shifting method uses four images obtained from a circular polariscope by rotating the analyzer to $0^{\circ},\;45^{\circ},\;90^{\circ}$, and $135^{\circ}$. In order to use the 4-step phase shifting method, the elements of a polariscope should be aligned to isoclinic direction at a point and/or along a line where isochromatic fringe distribution is measured. Experimental results obtained from the 4-step phase shifting method are compared with those measured by the Senarmont compensation method. Both results are well agreed. Then, isochromatic fringe distributions in the TV glass panel that is heat-treated before and after are compared. Maximum and minimum isochromatic fringe orders in the TV glass panel with before- and after-heat treatment are changed approximately two times.

  • LCL filters are widely used in three-phase PWM converter for its advantages of small volume, low cost and inhibition of high frequency current harmonic. However, it is difficult to optimize its design because its parameters are mutually influenced while the value of each parameter for LCL filter has impacts on the converter's cost and size. In this paper, the target of optimization is to minimize the parameter values of LCL filter, and an optimization method for parameters of LCL filter of three-phase PWM converter based on least square method is proposed. With this method, a quantitative calculation of the harmonic component of the converter’s side phase voltage is performed first, and then the quantitative relationship between phase voltage harmonics and grid phase current harmonics is analyzed. After that, the attenuation requirement of each harmonic is obtained by taking into account the requirements for each harmonic component of grid current. Then according to the optimization objective, the objective function with minimum harmonic attenuation deviation is established, and least squares method is adopted for three-dimensional global searching of parameters for LCL filter. Thus, the designed harmonic attenuation curve approximates the minimum attenuation requirements, and the optimized LCL filter parameters are obtained. Finally, the effectiveness of the method is verified by the experiments.
