A sequence of visually experimental observations was conducted to investigate the flow boiling and two-phase flow in a coiled tube. Different boiling modes and bubble dynamical evolutions were identified for better recognizing the phenomena and understanding the two-phase flow evolution and heat transfer mechanisms. The dissolved gases and remained vapor would serve as foreign nucleation sites, and together with the effect of buoyancy, centrifugal force and liquid flow, these also induce very different flow boiling nucleation, boiling modes, bubble dynamical behavior, and further the boiling heat transfer performance. Bubbly flow, plug flow, slug flow, stratified/wavy flow and annular flow were observed during the boiling process in the coiled tube. Particularly the effects of flow reconstructing and thermal non-equilibrium release in the bends were noted and discussed with the physical understanding. Coupled with the effects of the buoyancy, centrifugal force and inertia or momentum ratio of the two fluids, the flow reconstructing and thermal non-equilibrium release effects have critical importance for flow pattern in the bends and flow evolution in next straight sections.
The programmable switches which control the delivery of electrical signals in programmable logic devices are fabricated using memory technology. Although phase change memory (PCM) technology is one of the most promising candidates for the manufacturing of the programmable switches, the threshold switching material should be added to a PCM cell for realization of the programmable switches based on PCM technology. In this work, we report the impurity-doped $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$ (GST) chalcogenide alloy exhibiting threshold switching property. Unlike the GST thin film, the doped GST thin film prepared by the incorporation of In and P into GST is not crystallized even at the postannealing temperature higher than $200^{\circ}C$. This specific crystallization behavior in the doped GST thin film is attributed to the stabilization of the amorphous phase of GST by In and P doping.
The post-fire behavior of structural elements and the cooling process has always been one of the main concerns of the structural engineers. The structures can be cooled at different rates, where they affect the structure's behavior. In the present study, a numerical model has been developed using the Abaqus program to investigate the effect of cooling rate on the post-fire behavior of the CFST column. To verify the model, results of an experimental study performed on CFST columns within a full heating and cooling cycle have been used. In this model, coMParison of the residual strength has been employed in order to examine the behavior of CFST column under different cooling rates. Furthermore, a parametric study was carried out on the strength of steel and concrete, the height of the specimens, the axial load ratio and the cross-sectional shape of the specimen through the proposed model. It was observed that the cooling rate affects the behavior of the column after the fire, and thus the higher the specimen's temperature is, the more effect it has on the behavior. It was also noticed that water cooling had slightly more residual strength than natural cooling. Furthermore, it was recognized from the parametric study, that by increasing the strength of steel and concrete and the load ratio, as well as modifying the cross-sectional shape from circular to square, residual strength of column at the cooling phase was less than that of the heating phase. In addition, with reducing column height, no change was witnessed in the column behavior after the cooling phase.

In this paper we investigate the phase modulation efficiency in the electrooptic phase modulator using PPpinNN GaAs/AlGaAs W-type waveguide. The phase change is affected by the refractive index change taking place inside the depletion region. The behavior of the modulator can be understood in terms of two electric field-related and two carrier-related effects linear electrooptic, quadratic electrooptic, plasma, and bandgap shift. As a result, the phase modulation efficiency was measured about 34.6($^{\circ}$/V$.$mm) for the TE polarized light. The quadratic electrooptic coefficient R 5.82${\times}$10$\^$-15/($\textrm{cm}^2$/V$^2$) is Obtained ant the Phase efficiency Caused by the quadratic electrooptic effect is about 10 times larger than that from the conventional linear electrooptic effect.
The sliding wear behavior of the plasma-sprayed zirconia containing 3 mol% yttria was investigated after the annealing at room temperature to 80$0^{\circ}C$ in various concentrations of humid atmosphere as laboratory, humid, dry argon atmosphere. Both of the friction coefficient and the wear loss increased with increasing temperature up to 80$0^{\circ}C$. Surface morphology of the worn samples changed with annealing temperature. The change of monoclinic/tetragonal (m/t) x-ray peak intensity ratio effected the wear behavior. The m/t ratio had maximum value at 20$0^{\circ}C$ and decreased with increased temperature in laboratory and humid atmosphere. In argon atmosphere the m/t ratio had no maximum value and decreased with increasing temperature. At all the annealing temperature humid atmosphere had more the m/t ratio value than any other atmosphere. The change of toughness was showed the inversed result of m/t ratio change. The results indicated that the resudial stress which was induced by the different amount of phase transformation takes a detrimental role in wear behavior.

This paper presents the influence of the process parameters on the change in dynamic behavior of a lathe turning system. With variation of feed rate, depth of cut, direction of tool motion, cutting speed and tool location along the workpiece, the dynamic characteristics of stable cutting, chatter transition and fully developed chatter regions are demonstrated. The workpiece vibration during machining is continuously measured at different tool locations along the workpiece and quantitatively analyzed. Complex linear behavior due to change of process parameter values as well as fundamental wystem nonlinearity due to change of process configuration indicated by a tool path dependence of the locations of chatter onset and disappearance are described. Finally, the structural characteristics of the turning system which can have large and nonlinear effects on system behavior are presented.
In this study, factors considered to be causes of promotion of densification of sintered pellets identified during phase change are reviewed. As a result, conclusions shown below are obtained for each factor. In order for MA powder to soften, a temperature of 1,000 K or higher is required. In order to confirm the temporary increase in density throughout the sintered pellet, the temperature rise due to heat during phase change was found not to have a significant effect. While examining the thermal expansion using the compressed powder, which stopped densification at a temperature below the MA powder itself, and the phase change temperature, no shrinkage phenomenon contributing to the promotion of densification is observed. The two types of powder made of Ti-silicide through heat treatment are densified only in the high temperature region of 1,000 K or more; it can be estimated that this is the effect of fine grain superplasticity. In the densification of the amorphous powder, the dependence of sintering pressure and the rate of temperature increase are shown. It is thought that the specific densification behavior identified during the phase change of the Ti-37.5 mol.%Si composition MA powder reviewed in this study is the result of the acceleration of the powder deformation by the phase change from non-equilibrium phase to equilibrium phase.
The phase transition behavior of $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$ (GST) thin film, which is a candidate material of recording layer for phase change random access memory (PRAM), has been evaluated using an in-situ reflectance measurement method. The experimental data have been analyzed by using johnson-mehl-avrami-kolomogorov (JMAK) model. JMAK model can be used only in isothermal state. However, temperature changes with time during the operation of PRAM. To apply JMAK equation to PRAM simulation, it has been assumed that the temperature increases stepwise and isothermally. By using JMAK equation and assumption for the transient state, the phase transition behavior of GST thin film has been predicted under $3^{\circ}C/min$ heating rate in this study. The simulation result agrees well with the experimental results. Therefore, It can be concluded that JMAK equation can be used far the PRAM simulation model.
The retention behavior of proteins was investigated by using reversed-phase chromatography (RPC), comparing to the retention behavior of small molecules in RPC. The evaluation was carried out on a SynChropak RP-P($C_{18}$) column with 0.1% aq. TFA-organic solvent modifier such as acetonitrile, isopropanol, and ethanol. The Z value (the number of solvent molecules required to displace the solute from the surface) was a general index for the characterization of protein retention as a function of organic concentration over a range of temperature between 5 and 70$^{\circ}C$. Van't Hoff plots provided the basis for evaluating the enthalpic and entropic changes associated with the interaction between protein and the stationary phase. Z values did not change significantly at the range of temperature showing the consistent ${\Delta}H^{\circ}$ and ${\Delta}S^{\circ}$ values. From these investigation, it was concluded that the retention behavior of proteins in RPC was able to be predicted by the retention parameters applied to small molecules. Furthermore, myoglobin and hemoglobin in RPC as stated above showed a similar retention behavior regardless of their molecular weights.

Freezing of water in von-$K{\acute{a}}rm{\acute{a}}n$ swirling flow is considered. The transient behavior of the temperature distribution in both solid and liquid phases and freezing rate are determined. The fluid flow induced by the rotation of solid strongly inhibits the freezing process. The thickness of frozen layer is inversely proportional to the square root of the angular velocity of solid. As the angular velocity or initial liquid temperature becomes larger, the freezing process is more strongly inhibited by the fluid flow. When phase change is present, the transient heat transfer rate is greater than the case with no phase change.
