The effect of aliovalent dopants, $ Nb_2O_5$ and MnO, on the phase stability of 12 mol% ceria partially-stabilized zirconia (Ce-TZP) polycrystals was studied. Both dopants (MnO and $ Nb_2O_5$) significantly increased the stability of the tetragonal zirconia phase (Mb temperature lower than liquid nitrogen temperature). The enhancement of the stability of the tetragonal phase in Ce-TZP doped with 1 mol% of Mno(Ce-TZP/MnO) andCe-TZP doped with 1 mol% of $ Nb_2O_5$(Ce-TZP/$ Nb_2O_5$) were explained by the significant reduction of the driving force, -${\Delta}$Gchem, for the tetragonal-to-mono-clinic phase transformation caused by the addition of MnO and $ Nb_2O_5$. The enhanced stability of the tetragonal phase in the Ce-TZP and Al2O3 composite (Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$) is believed to be caused by smaller grain size, moderate reduction in the chemical driving force and increase in the strain energy barrier to the transformation. Mechanical properties of the Ce-TZP and the Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$ with (i) the same grain size and (ii) the same Mb temperature were examined by measuring stress-strain behavior in 3 point bending. The Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$ composite doped with 1.3w% MnO (Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$/MnO), which had the same grain size as the Ce-TZP and De-TZP/$Al_2O_3$ showed more transformation plasticity than either the Ce-TZP or the Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$ composite. The Ce-TZP wihch had the same Mb temperature as that of the Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$/MnO did not show any transformation plasticity.
Martensite volume fraction significantly affects the mechanical properties of alloy steels. Martensite start temperature (Ms), transformation temperature for martensite 50 vol.% (M50), and transformation temperature for martensite 90 vol.% (M90) are important transformation temperatures to control the martensite phase fraction. Several researchers proposed empirical equations and machine learning models to predict the Ms temperature. These numerical approaches can easily predict the Ms temperature without additional experiment and cost. However, to control martensite phase fraction more precisely, we need to reduce prediction error of the Ms model and propose prediction models for other martensite transformation temperatures (M50, M90). In the present study, machine learning model was applied to suggest the predictive model for the Ms, M50, M90 temperatures. To explain prediction mechanisms and suggest feature importance on martensite transformation temperature of machine learning models, the explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) is employed. Random forest regression (RFR) showed the best performance for predicting the Ms, M50, M90 temperatures using different machine learning models. The feature importance was proposed and the prediction mechanisms were discussed by XAI.
The effect of betatizing temperature on microstructure and transformation characteristics in a Cu-AI-Ni based pseudoelastic alloy fabricated by heated mold continuous casting by using metallography, XRD and calorimetry. The microstructure of cast rod betatized at $600^{\circ}C$ revealed a ${\beta}_1$ parent phase and a ${\gamma}_2$ phase precipitated along the casting direction. When the cast rod was betatized at the elevated temperature above $600^{\circ}C$, the ${\gamma}_2$ phase is completely dissolved into the matrix so that the volume fraction of the ${\gamma}_2$ phase was decreased. The parent phase was stabilized by betatizing at $600^{\circ}C$. However, the ${\beta}_1$ parent phase was transformed to both ${{\beta}_1}^{\prime}$ and ${{\gamma}_1}^{\prime}$ martensites with increasing betatizing temperatures above $600^{\circ}C$, while $M_s$ and $A_s$ temperatures were decreased. The stress-strain curves for compression test were not same with betatizing temperature; the stress-strain curves of the specimen betatized at $600^{\circ}C$ and $700^{\circ}C$ were linear but those of the specimen betatized at $800^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$ were not linear.
It is very difficult to analyze the transient temperature distribution during quenching of the steel because of coupled effects among temperature, structures and stresses. In this paper, using Inoue's equation of evolution and mixture rule, transient temperature distribution is calculated by the finite element method considering latent heat of transformation structure and temperature dependence of physical and mechanical prperties for the 0.45% carbon cylindrical steel bar with 40mm diameter and 20mm height during end-quenching.
The physical property and phase transformation in a commercial dental casting high gold alloy was investigated as a function of ageing temperature and time using microvickers hardness tester, X-ray diffraction, optical and electron microscopy and EPMA analyser. 1. With increasing ageing time, the hardness of solution-treated gold alloys increased slowly at the initial stage of ageing treatment at an ageing temperature of $300{\sim}400^{\circ}C$, and it reached a maximum value of hardness at the medium stage. Finally, it decreased gradually during further ageing. The maximum value of hardness at was similar with that of the conventional materials and suitable for using as the crown & bridge. 2. During isothermal ageing at a temperature range of $300{\sim}400^{\circ}C$, three phases consisting of the Au-rich ${\alpha}_1$phase with a face-centered cubic structure, the Pt3Zn ${\alpha}_2$phase with an ordered AuCu3(L12) type(f.c.c.) and the Pt-rich ${\alpha}_3$phase with face-centered cubic structure in solution-treated gold alloys were transformed into different three phases consisting of the ${\alpha}_1$phase, the ${\alpha}_3$phase and the PtZn $\beta$phase with an ordered AuCu I(L10) type. 3. The hardening of gold alloys was attributed to the lattice strains of the matrix resulting from the transformation of the ${\alpha}_2$phase to the $\beta$phase. 4. The softening of gold alloys during over-ageing was attributed to the coarsening of the nodules consisting of the $\beta$phase and ${\alpha}_1$matrix.
Most of ferrous b.c.c weld materials may experience martensitic transformation during rapid cooling after welding. It is well known that volume expansion due to the phase transformation could influence on the relaxation of welding residual stress. To apply this effect practically, it is a prerequisite to establish a numerical model which is able to estimate the effect of phase transformation on residual stress relaxation quantitatively. For this purpose, the analysis is carried out in two regions. i.e., heating and cooling, because the variation of material properties following a phase transformation in cooling is different in comparison with the case in heating, even at the same temperature. The variation of material properties following phase transformation is considered by the adjustment of specific heat and thermal expansion coefficient, and the distribution of residual stress in analysis is compared with that of experiment by previous study. consequently, in this study, simplified numerical procedures considering phase transformation, which based on a commercial finite element package was established through comparing with the experimental data of residual stress distribution by other researcher. To consider the phase transformation effect on residual stress relaxation, the transition of mechanical and thermal property such as thermal expansion coefficient and specific heat capacity was found by try and error method in this analysis.
Alpha-SiAlON ceramics having various compositions and modifying cations were investigated with respect to their phase stability, transformation kinetics. and resulting microstructures. Each composition was heat treated at 150$0^{\circ}C$ for 1h and measured the $\alpha$-SiAlON transformation. The phase-boundary composition in the single-phase $\alpha$-SiAlON region showed sluggish transformation from $\alpha$-$Si_3N_4$ to $\alpha$-SiAlON compared to the phase-center composition in the diagram. Using the different rare earth modifying cations, dependence of transformation kinetics on the phase stability in a fixed composition was also explained. By changing size of the stable u-phase region with exchanging cations, systematic change in transformation was observed. Transformation rate of $\alpha$-SiAlON at low temperature has an important role on controlling the final microstructure. Less transformation gives more chances to develop elongated grain in the microstructure.
This paper represents to develop a computer software system which is capable to analyze the phase transformation of high strength steel(BV-AH32) and to predict heat transfer and welding residual stress due to phase transformation during Gas Metal Arc(GMA) welding. The developed model was considered temperature dependent properties such as young's modules, coefficient of thermal expansion and yield stress as well as the double ellipsoidal heat distribution by the moving arc. From the results, it was found that the longitudinal and transverse residual stresses calculated by the coupled analysis of heat transfer, residual stress and phase transformation showed good agreement with the experimental data. In addition, the temperature distribution as well as longitudinal and transverse residual stresses of weldment by the 1-pass and 2-pass of welding were also determined.
Polycrystalline Ni-Mn-Ga films have been deposited onto mica substrates held at 720 K by flash-evaporation method. At room temperature the films have a tetragonal structure with a = b = 0.598 and c = 0.576 nm typical for bulk $Ni_2MnGa$ below a martensitic transformation. Temperature measurements of ferromagnetic resonance reveal a martensitic phase transformation at 310 K. The transformation brings about a substantial decrease in the effective magnetization and a drastic increase in the ferromagnetic resonance linewidth due to a strong increase in the magnetic anisotropy in the martensitic phase.
Simulations of warm and hot forming processes need reliable expressions of flow stress at high temperatures. To get flow stress of the materials usually tension, compression and torsion tests are conducted. In this study, hot compression tests were adopted to get flow stress of medium carbon steel. Experiments have been conducted under both isothermal, near constant strain rate in the temperature ranges 650~100$0^{\circ}C$. Phase transformation takes place by temperature changes for steels in hot and warm forging stage. So Constitutive equation are formulated as the function of strain, strain rate and temperature for isothermal conditions and phase transformation.
