Engineering interests of submerged bodies and turbomachinery has led researchers to study various cavitation models for decades. The governing equations used for the present work are the two-phase Navier-Stokes equations with homogeneous mixture model. The solver employed on implicit dual time preconditioning algorithm in curvilinear coordinates. Three different cavitation models were applied to two axisymmetric cylinders and compared with experiments. It is concluded that the Merkle's new cavitation model has successfully accounted for cavitating flows and well captured the re-entrant jet phenomenon over the 0-caliber cylinder.
A correlative analysis has been carried out to predict the average particle size of rubber dispersed phase In high impact polystyrene manufactured by bulk polymerization. To do the correlation, a mechanistic model suggested previously by the author was used for describing the size of stabilizing particles agitated under the turbulent viscous shear subranges in a prepolymerization reactor, where the rubber particles were assumed to be formed at the time of phase inversion in the reactor. Viscosities required for the model were postulated to describe the overall behavior of butadiene rubber and polystyrene mixture along the wide range of conversion. The good agreement between the model and the experimental data from a plant was quite satisfactory for the prediction of the average rubber particle size of high impact polystyrene.

This paper presents the design of a neural network based adaptive control for missile is presented. The application model is Exocet MM40, which is derived from missile DATCOM database. Acceleration of missile by tail Fin control cannot be controllable by DMI (Dynamic Model Inversion) directly because it is non-minimum phase system. So, the inner loop consists of DMI and NN (Neural Network) and the outer loop consists of PI controller. In order to satisfy the performances only with PI controller, it is necessary to do some additional process such as gain tuning and scheduling. In this paper, all flight area would be covered by just one PI gains without tuning and scheduling by applying mixture control technique of conventional controller and NN to the outer loop. Also, the simulation model is designed by considering non-minimum phase system and compared the performances to distinguish the validity of control law with conventional PI controller.
A high resolution scheme for solving gas-liquid two-phase flows with cavitation is described. This scheme uses the curvilinear coordinate grid and solves the density based momentum equations for mixture of gas-liquid medium with a preconditioning method to treat both compressible and incompressible flow characteristics. The present preconditioned method is based on the Runge-Kutta explicit finite-difference scheme, and is improved by using the diagonalization, the flux difference splitting and the MUSCL-TVD schemes to save computational effort and to increase stability and resolvability, especially at gas-liquid contact surfaces. A homogeneous equilibrium cavitation model is used to treat the gas-liquid two-phase medium in cavitating flow as a locally homogeneous pseudo-single-phase medium. Therefore, it is easy to solve cavitating flow, including wave propagation, large density changes and incompressible flow characteristic at low Mach number. Some numerical results obtained by the present scheme are shown.

Two-dimensional solidification analysis during rheology forming process of semi-solid aluminum alloy has been studied. Two-phase fluid flow model to investigate the velocity field and temperature distribution is proposed. The proposed mathematical model is applied to the die shape of the two types. To calculate the velocity and temperature fields during rheology forming process, the earth governing equation correspondent to the liquid and solid region are adapted. Therefore, each numerical models considering the solid and liquid region existing within the semi-solid material have been developed to predict the deflect of rheology forming gnarls. The Arbitrary Boundary Maker And Cell (ABMAC) method is employed to solve the two-phase flow model of the Navier-Stokes equation. Theoretical model on the basis of the two-phase flow model is the mixture rule of solid and liquid phases. This approach is based on the liquid and solid viscosity. The liquid viscosity is pure liquid state value, however solid viscosity is considered as a function of the shear rate, solid fraction and power law curves.

In this study, the effect of properties of gas diffusion layer (GDL) on the performance of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) was investigated using the numerical simulation. The multi-phase mixture ($M^2$) model was used to calculate liquid water saturation and oxygen concentration in GDL. GDL properties, which were contact angle, porosity, gas permeability and thickness, were changed to investigate the effect of GDL properties on the performance of PEMFC. The results demonstrated that performance of PEMFC was increased with increasing contact angle and porosity of GDL, but decreased with increasing thickness of GDL. The liquid water saturation was decreased but oxygen concentration was increased at the GDL-catalyst layer interface, because the mass transfer resistance decreased as the porosity and contact angle increased. On the other hands, as the thickness of GDL increased, pathway for liquid water and oxygen gas became longer, and then mass transfer resistance increased. For this reason, performance of PEMFC decreased with increasing thickness of GDL.

Three-dimensional (3D) numerical simulations have been carried out to study how coolant injection conditions influence the cooling efficiency and projectile ejection performance in a mixture-gas ejection system (or gas-steam launch system). The 3D single-phase computational model was verified using a 1D model constructed with reference to the previous research and then a two-phase flow computation simulating coolant injection on to hot gas was performed using a DPM (Discrete Phase Model). As a result of varying the coolant flow rate and number of injection holes, cooling efficiency was improved when the number of injection holes were increased. In addition, the change of the coalescence frequency and spatial distribution of coolant droplets caused by the injection condition variation resulted in a change of the droplet diameter, affecting the evaporation rate of coolant. The evaporation was found to be a critical factor in the design optimization of the ejection system by suppressing the pressure drop while the temperature decreases inside the breech.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze two-phase flows of the hydrogen recirculation system. Two-phase flow modeling is one of the great challenges in the classical sciences. As with most problems in engineering, the interest in two-phase flow is due to its extreme importance in various industrial applications. In hydrogen recirculation systems of fuel cell, the changes in pressure and temperature affect the phase change of mixture. Therefore, two-phase flow analysis of the hydrogen recirculation system is very important. Two-phase computation fluid dynamics (CFD) calculations, using a commercial CFD package FLUENT 6.2, were employed to calculate the gas-liquid flow. A two-phase flow calculation was conducted to solve continuity, momentum, energy equation for each phase. Then, the mass transfer between water vapor and liquid water was calculated. Through an experiment to measure production of liquid water with change of pressure, the analysis model was verified. The predictions of rate of condensed liquid water with change of pressure were within an average error of about 5%. A comparison of experimental and computed data was found to be in good agreement. The variations of performance, properties, mass fraction and two-phase flow characteristic of mixture with resepct to the fuel cell power were investigated.
RoeM and AUSMPW+ schemes are two of the most accurate and efficient schemes which are recently developed for the analysis of single phase gas dynamics. In this paper, we developed two-phase versions of these schemes for the analysis of gas-liquid large density ratio two-phase flow. We adopt homogeneous equilibrium model (HEM) using mass fraction to describe different two phases. In the Eulerian-Eulerian framework, HEM assumes dynamic and thermal equilibrium of the two phases in the same computational mesh. From the mixture equation of state (EOS), we derived new shock-discontinuity sensing term (SDST), which is commonly used in RoeM and AUSMPW+ for the stable numerical flux calculation. The proposed two-phase versions of RoeM and AUSMPW+ schemes are applied on several air-water two-phase test problems. In spite of the large discrepancy of material properties such as density, enthalpy, and speed of sound, the numerical results show that both schemes provide very satisfactory solutions.
