Since Risk Based Inspection(RBI) was introduced to quality the risks for jet engine and nuclear power, the technique has been expanded to the area of petrochemical plant. Recently among USA and Europe, window-based computer programme for RBI has been rapidly developed. When local companies procure such program to apply to their plants, it is difficult to build up a proper database as well as expect a good result. In this regards, K-RBI programme accustomed to Korean environments was developed. After completion of the programme in 2004, it was tested by 2 local petrochemical plants and was produced fruitful results. By using these programme, we are expecting accident prevention through risk based planning and implementing of equipment inspection, and saving dollars caused by procuring foreign expensive programme.
During the last ten years, the need has been increased for reducing maintenance cost for aged equipments and ensuring safety, efficiency and profitability of petrochemical and refinery plants. RBI (Risk Based Inspection) methodology is one of the most promising technologies satisfying the need in the field of integrity management. In this study, a user-friendly software, realRBI for RBI based on the API 581 code was developed and a quantitative analysis was performed for over 500 equipments in a domestic plant whose operating time reaches about 13 years. Current risks for each equipment parts were evaluated and risk based prioritization were determined as a conclusion.

For the case of the facilities using utilities such as cooling water and steam, risk of the facilities is zero because the consequence of failure (COF) through equipment damage area is zero. Therefore, to improve the estimation method of the risk by COF through equipment damage area in the risk-based inspection (RBI), this study developed the procedures of RBI, in which the risk was estimated by COF through financial loss. And, the RBI program (KS-RBI Ver 3.1) was developed to establish inspection interval based on the risk of the facilities estimated by COF through equipment damage area and financial loss, simultaneously, and the developed RBI program was applied to a petrochemical process. As a result, risks of the facilities estimated by COF through financial loss were similar to risks by COF through the equipment damage area. But, for the case of the facilities using utilities or expensive facilities, the estimation method of the risk by COF through financial loss was more accurate than through equipment damage area.

In this study, a user-friendly software, realRBl for RBI based on the API 581 code was developed. This software has modules for evaluating qualitative and semi-quantitative risk level, analyzing quantitative risks using the potential consequences of a failure of the pressure boundary, and assessing the likelihood of failure. A quantitative analysis was performed for 16 columns in a domestic NCC (Naphtha Cracking Center) plant whose operating time reaches about 12 years. Each column was considered as two equipment parts by dividing into top and bottom. Generic column failure frequencies were adjusted based on likelihood data. After determining release rate, release duration and release mass for each failure scenario, flammable/explosive and toxic consequences were assessed. Current risks for 32 equipment parts were evaluated and risk based prioritization were determined as a final result.

In analysis of piping vibration of petrochemical plant, the forcing functions mainly depend upon the equipment working mechanism and vibration resources in the piping systems. In general, harmonic function is used for the system with rotary equipments. Mechanical driving frequencies, wave functions, and response spectrum are used for reciprocating compressors, surge vibration of long transfer piping, and seismic/wind vibration, respectively. In this study, for the spray injection case inside the pipe, forcing function was modeled, in which two different fluids are distributed uniformly. To confirm the results, the scheme used for the forcing function was applied for real piping system. The vibration mode of the real system was consistent with the 4th mode obtained by simulation using the forcing function formulated in this study.
High growth of economy and industrial development was produced every air pollutants, that is, SOx, NOx, dust, VOCs and malodorous gas was produced. Recently, volatile organic compounds(VOCs) was bring about very serious environmental problems. Ulsan petrochemical complex was densely a large scale of petrochemical plant. This study was carried out to select treatment equipment of VOCs produced from petrochemical plant, and has compared with Carbon filter, Regenerative thermal oxidation(RCO) and Flare stack for technical merit and demerit but also initial investment and operating cost.
The current dual-watchdog estimation system has individually calculated the construction, the engineering and the procurement cost. The dual-watchdog estimation system is inefficient and prolonged estimation period because of the lack of the interoperability and the difference of material unit cost and construction unit cost. In order to resolve this problem, new estimation software was developed. The estimation software is developed by making up for the weak points in existing estimation method. The cost data with the same standard is the key point. And this software enhanced accuracy and speed of the data search in stylized estimation standard. A summary of the construction, the engineering and the procurement cost was generated in this estimation software. The unit rate about the labor cost, equipment and expense through a sheet was handled. The developed estimation software has five categories on engineering cost, procurement cost, construction cost and subcontractor management sheet. In this study, the estimation software to supplement the faults of the existing estimation method was developed. And estimation software on petrochemical projects increases an efficiency of the estimation work.

In recent years, the problem of spectrum mobility in Cognitive Radio (CR) Networks has been widely investigated. In order to utilize spectrum resources completely, many spectrum handoff techniques based on game theory have been proposed, but most studies only concern that users how to achieve better payoffs, without much attention to the diverse needs of users. In this paper, we propose a new channel-switching model based on game theory, using a prioritized approach to meet the diverse needs of users in two different modes (CQ and PS). At the same time, this paper proposes some acceleration techniques to reach the Nash equilibrium more efficiently. We evaluate the performance of the proposed schemes depending on priority using real channel availability measurements, and conclude that the channel quality function (CQ) mode provide better service for priority user but the plan-sorting (PS) mode can be more suitable in multiple priority users exist scene.

Restricted by finite battery energy, traditional wireless sensor networks (WSNs) can only maintain for a limited period of time, resulting in serious performance bottleneck in long-term deployment of WSN. Fortunately, the advancement in the wireless energy transfer technology provides a potential to free WSNs from limited energy supply and remain perpetual operational. A mobile charger called wireless charging vehicle (WCV) is employed to periodically charge each sensor node and keep its energy level above the minimum threshold. Aiming at maximizing the ratio of the WCV's vocation time over the cycle time as well as guaranteeing the perpetual operation of networks, we propose a feasible and optimal solution to this issue within the context of a real-time large-scale deployed WSN. First, we develop two different types of charging cycles: initialization cycles and renewable cycles and give relevant algorithms to construct these two cycles for each sensor node. We then formulate the optimization problem into an optimal construction algorithm and prove its correctness through theoretical analysis. Finally, we conduct extensive simulations to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithms.
2 K superfluid helium cryogenic system is the crucial component of many large accelerators. When the cryogenic system is operating at 2K@3129Pa, many room-temperature parts are connected to superfluid helium via tubes. Air Leakage in these connections may lead to air contamination of the cryogenic system. Air contamination may cause equipment failure in cryogenic systems and, in extreme cases, render the entire accelerator system inoperable. Helium guard is a technique that guards against air contamination of these sub-atmospheric pressure connections in 2 K superfluid helium cryogenic system. This paper introduces a typical 2 K cryogenic distribution design for large accelerators, and make risk analysis of air contamination. Finally, the analysis of specific leakage points and detailed engineering design are presented, which may be used as a reference when designing of a 2 K superfluid helium cryogenic distribution system.
