This study estimated the changes in delays and speeds of vehicles in exclusive bus lane and road when the High Occupancy Vehicles(HOV) use the median bus lane. Synchro simulation tool was used to optimize the traffic signal time on the network and VISSIM was applied to simulate various scenarios. Here, drivers behavior parameters in VISSIM was optimized using Simultaneous Perturbation Stochastic Approximation(SPSA) algorithm in order to represent real traffic condition. Based on the simulation results, the delay in Doan daero was decreased when the volume of HOV in current condition runs on the median bus lane, whereas delay in Doan dongro was increased in all scenarios. The changes in bus speed was not sharply decreased for both study sites, even though the number of HOV increased to 10%. Thus, it could be allowed that the HOV use the median bus lane in Doan dongro and Doan daero. Future research tasks include studying about changes in delay when the HOV use the curb bus lane.

We present a novel method for simple and efficient analysis of the rectangular MQW waveguide. Preferentially two-dimensional structure is transformed into one-dimensional structure by using the effective index method. Then, the characteristic matrix of the resultant planar MQW waveguide is analyzed by scanning angle method. The effective index, modal intensity, and optical confinement factor of rectangular MQW waveguide can be effectively obtained by this method. Our simulation results show excellent agreement with the accurate solutions based on the finite element method. We also introduce the approximation methods for the analysis of rectangular MQW waveguide and investigate their validity. By using perturbation approach, modal power loss of guided wave in rectangular MQW waveguide is newly investigated and compared with the conventional method using the approximation of planar MQW waveguide.
This paper deals with the performance analysis of the jamming effect of cross-eye when the difference between the real amplitude ratio and the nominal amplitude ratio due to mechanical defects is modeled as a random variable with a normal distribution. We propose how to evaluate mean square difference (MSD) obtained using a numerical integration-based approach. The MSD obtained by the proposed method is closer to non-approximated Monte-Carlo simulation-based MSD than the analytic MSD calculated using the first-order Taylor approximation and the second-order Taylor approximation. It is shown that, based on the numerical integration, the effect of amplitude ratio perturbation on the cross-eye jamming performance can be evaluated without going through the computationally intensive Monte-Carlo method.
Present study deals with a three phase flow problem of determining drag acting on spheres wetted by liquid flow by gas flow through the spheres in simple cubic (SC), body-center cubic (BCC) and face-centered cubic (FCC) array, respectively, when the inertia of gas is negligibly small. The liquid flow driven by gravity on the spheres is assumed to be unaffected by the countercurrent gas flow. A perturbation method coupled with a multipole expansion method is used to calculate the hydrodynamic interactions between spheres and hence determine the effect of liquid film and flow on the gas flow for each periodic array of spheres. An approximate method for evaluating the effect of the liquid film is also presented for simple estimations. It is found that the approximation results are in a reasonable agreement with the numerical calculations.

Function approximation from a set of input-output pairs has numerous applications in scientific and engineering areas. Multilayer feedforward neural networks have been proposed as a good approximator of nonlinear function. The back propagation(BP) algorithm allows multilayer feedforward neural networks to learn input-output mappings from training samples. It iteratively adjusts the network parameters(weights) to minimize the sum of squared approximation errors using a gradient descent technique. However, the mapping acquired through the BP algorithm may be corrupt when errorneous training data we employed. When errorneous traning data are employed, the learned mapping can oscillate badly between data points. In this paper we propose a robust BP learning algorithm that is resistant to the errorneous data and is capable of rejecting gross errors during the approximation process, that is stable under small noise perturbation and robust against gross errors.
In this note, we propose the discrete model reduction method over disc-type analytic domains. We define Hankel singular value over the disc that is mapped by standard bilinear mapping. And GSPA(generalized singular perturbation approximation) and DT(direct truncation) are generalized to GSPA and DT over a disc. Furthermore we show that the reduced order model over a smaller domain has a smaller L$_{\infty}$ norm error bound..
The role of the electron diffusion on the stability of a Townsend discharge was investigated with the linear stability theory for the one-dimensional fluid equation with drift-diffusion approximation. It was proved that the discovered instability occurs as a result of the coupled action of electron diffusion and the perturbed electric field by space charge. The larger electron diffusion results in the faster growth rate at the regime of small perturbation of the electric field by space charges.

This paper considers a new weighed model reduction method using block diagonal solutions of Lyapunov inequalities. With the input and/or output weighting function, the stability of the reduced order system is guaranteed and an a priori error bound is proposed. to achieve this after finding the solutions of two Lyapunov inequalities and balancing the full order system, we find the reduced order systems using the direct truncation and the singular perturbation approximation. The proposed method is compared with other existing methods using numerical examples.
We determine the reduced mass of heavy-hole exciton and the heavy-hole in-plane mass for a series of (In, Ga)As/GaAs strained layer quantum wells using the magnetolu-minescence measurements of the exciton ground state and the modified perturbation approach. In the theoretical calculation of the magnetoexciton ground state, the exciton reduced mass is considered as an adjustable parameter, and two variation parameters are used in the unperturbed wave function which is expressed in terms of subband wave functions in the growth axis and the product of two-dimensional hydrogen and oscillator like wave functions for the in-plane component. We take into account the energy dependence of transverse and in-plane electron masses in the twoband effective mass approximation. The electron effective mass decreases as either quantum-well width or indium composition increases, and so does the heavy-hole in-plane mass down to the value at the decoupling limit ($m_{hh,\;{\rho}}=0.11m_0$).
Along with the computation and analysis for nonlinear system being more and more involved in the fields such as automation control electronic technique and electrical power system the nonlin-ear theory has become quite a attractive field for academic research. In this paper we derives the solutions for state equation of nonlinear system by using the inverse operator expression of the so-lutions is obtained. An actual computation example is given giving a comparison between IOM and Runge-kutta method. It has been proved by our investigation that IOM has some distinct advantages over usual approximation methods in that it is computationally con-venient rapidly convergent provides accurate solutions not requiring perturbation linearization or the massive computation inherent in discrietization methods such as finite differences. So the IOM pro-vides an effective method for the solution of nonlinear system is of potential application valuable in nonlinear computation.
