Several sensor devices have been developed for monitoring individual's health and status information and services which visualize customized information by associating applications running on smartphones with sensor devices also have been emerged. Though these applications provide similar information to a user, each sensor device has its own application caused by non-standardized packet formats. In this paper, we propose a sensor device identification for dynamic interworking between a smartphone and personal sensor devices. In the proposed scheme, we can use the same application which plays role of a client on the smartphone as changing sensor devices because server stores packet information of sensor devices.
Wearable devices have the potential to revolutionize future medical diagnostics and personal healthcare. The integration of biosensors into scalable form factors allow continuous and noninvasive monitoring of key biomarkers and various physiological indicators. However, conventional wearable devices have critical limitations owing to their rigid and obtrusive interfaces. Recent developments in functional biocompatible materials, micro/nanofabrication methods, multimodal sensor mechanisms, and device integration technologies have provided the foundation for novel skin-interfaced bioelectronics for advanced and user-friendly wearable devices. Nonetheless, it is a great challenge to satisfy a wide range of design parameters in fabricating an authentic skin-interfaced device while maintaining its edge over conventional devices. This review highlights recent advances in skin-compatible materials, biosensor performance, and energy-harvesting methods that shed light on the future of wearable devices for digital health and personalized medicine.

Useful continuous sensing applications are increasingly emerging as a new class of mobile applications. Meanwhile, open, multi-use sensor devices are newly adopted beyond smartphones, and provide huge opportunities to expand potential application categories. In this upcoming environment, uncoordinated use of sensor devices would cause severe imbalance in power consumption of devices, and thus result in early shutdown of some sensing applications depending on power-hungry devices. In this paper, we propose EnergyCordy, a novel inter-device energy use coordination system; with a system-wide holistic view, it coordinates the energy use of concurrent sensing applications over multiple sensor devices. As its key approach, we propose a relaxed sensor association; it decouples the energy use of an application from specific sensor devices leveraging multiple context inference alternatives, allowing flexible energy coordination at runtime. We demonstrated the effectiveness of EnergyCordy by developing multiple example applications over custom-designed wearable senor devices. We show that EnergyCordy effectively coordinates the power usage of concurrent sensing applications over multiple devices and prevent undesired early shutdown of applications.

In recent years, wearable sensor devices are reshaping the way people live, work, and play. A wearable sensor device is a computer that is subsumed into the personal space of the user, and is always on, and always accessible. Therefore, among the most salient aspects of a wearable sensor device should be a small form factor, long battery lifetime, and real-time characteristics. Thereby, sophisticated applications of a wearable sensor device use real-time operating systems to guarantee real-time deadlines. The deterministic multi-dimensional task scheduling algorithms are implemented on ARC (Actual Remote Control) with relatively limited hardware resources. ARC is a wearable wristwatch-type remote controller; it can also serve as a universal remote control, for various wearable sensor devices. In the proposed algorithms, there is no limit on the maximum number of task priorities, and the memory requirement can be dramatically reduced. Furthermore, regardless of the number of tasks, the complexity of the time and space of the proposed algorithms is O(1). A valuable contribution of this work is to guarantee real-time deadlines for wearable sensor devices.
As the five-day workweek has been implemented in Korea many people are focusing their attention on hobbies, leisure activities or camping to enjoy the weekend. Recently many workers are purchasing personal mobility devices for commute, due to the launch of cheap personal mobility devices by Xiaomi. Under such circumstances, this study aimed to develop turn signals by using gyroscope sensors for safe use of personal mobility devices or for leisure activities. This study focused on previous cases of turn signal production for the safety during leisure activities or for personal mobility devices and analyzed their cases and identified problems. This study further presented an alternative design to overcome such problems and to develop turn signals for the safety of users. This is ring shape and included LED and then it expresses user's direction for backside. This study is one of the solution for safety of personal mobility product user.

The recent increase in use of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard for wireless connectivity in personal area networks makes of it an important technology for low-cost low-power wireless personal area networks. Studies showed that voice communications over IEEE 802.15.4 networks is feasible by Guaranteed Time Slot (GTS) allocation; but there are some constraints to accommodate voice transmission beyond two hops due to the excessive transmission delay. In this paper, we propose a GTS allocation scheme for bidirectional voice traffic in IEEE 802.15.4 multihop networks with the goal of achieving fairness and optimization of resource allocation. The proposed scheme uses a greedy algorithm to allocate GTSs to devices for successful completion of voice transmission with efficient use of bandwidth while considering closest devices with another factor for starvation avoidance. We analyze and validate the proposed scheme in terms of fairness and resource optimization through numeral analysis.
It is essential to investigate the structure and the main characteristics of BSN (Bio-Sensor Network) platform in built smart healthcare environment while designing healthy housing facilities. For this study, WSN (Wireless Sensor Network) data transmission technologies have been employed with medical sensors, and optimal medical devices would provide various Web 2.0 services by connecting to the WiBro network. The BSN platform normally recognizes in surroundings of WBAN (Wireless Body Area Network) or WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network), and it is possible to manage sensor nodes by utilizing SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) and REST (REpresentational State Transfer). In addition, the feature of SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) for mobile gateway is also included for being adapted to huge network structure. Finally, BSN platform will play a role as important clues for developing personal WSN service models for smart healthy housing properties.

IEEE 802.15.4 specification which defines low-rate wireless personal area network(LR-WPAN) has application to home or building automation, remote control and sensing, intelligent management, environmental monitoring, and so on. Recently, it has been considered as an alternative technology to provide multimedia services such as automation via voice recognition, wireless headset and wireless camera for surveillance. In order to evaluate capability of voice traffic on the IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN, we supposed two scenarios, voice traffic only and coexistence of voice and sensing traffic. For both cases we examined delay and packet loss rate in case of with and without acknowledgement, and various beacon period varying with beacon and superframe order values. In LR-WPAN with voice devices only, total 5 voice devices could be applicable and in the other case, i.e., coexisted cases of voice and sensor devices, a voice device was able to coexist with about 60 sensor devices.

While the conventional personal protective equipments (PPEs) covers a variety of devices and garments such as respirators, turnout gear, gloves, blankets and gas masks, several electronic devices such as personal alert safety system (PASS) and heads-up displays in the facepiece have become a part of firefighters personal protective equipments through past several years. Furthermore, more advanced electronic sensors including location traking sensor, thermal imaging caerma, toxic gas detectors, and even physiological monitoring sensors are being integrated into ensemble elements for better protection of firefighters from fire sites. Despite any electronic equipment placed on the firefighter must withstand environmental extremes and continue to properly function under any thermal conditions that firefighters routinely face, there are no specific criteria for these electronics to define functionability of these devices under given thermal conditions. Although manufacturers provide the specifications and performance guidelines for their products, their operation guidelines hardly match the real thermal conditions. Present study overviews firefighter's fatalities and thermal conditions that firefighters and their equipments face. Lastly, thermal packaging methods that we have developed and tested are introduced.

Due to the recent development of battery technology, various types of means of transportation such as electric kickboards, Segways, and electric bicycles have emerged, which can be defined as Personal Mobility. In this paper, as the incidence of safety accidents increases due to the increase in the number of users of Personal Mobility, safety helmet devices that strengthen safety capabilities and peripheral recognition functions were studied. In order for the helmet to send a safety signal, Arduino was used as a base to set the value of the sensor according to changes in distance and angle using the ultrasonic sensor to minimize errors and ensure smooth recognition. In addition, a gyro sensor was used to turn on the direction indicator according to each slope. Using a CDS sensor, the LED is designed to turn on when it goes below 150 lux at night. Finally, it is possible to check whether a helmet is worn within 5cm, and when driving at an average speed, the direction indicator light is turned on at 10 degrees, and the LED is turned on at less than 150 lux.
