This study was conducted to evaluate the sanitary performance and knowledge of elementary school foodservice employees. The specific aim of this study was to decipher why employees cannot apply learned knowledge to real work situations. In total, 437 foodservice operation employees attended a regular sanitary education program under the auspices of Seoul Gangdong and Gangseo district offices. The five sanitary practice performance evaluators included personal hygiene, ingredient control, process control, safety management, and sanitary education. These dimensions were self-evaluated using the Likert 5-point scale. Collected data were subjected to descriptive and comparative analysis using SPSS (Version 12.0, SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) statistical package. The main results are summarized as follows: 93.6% of the respondents were women and 57% were aged between 40$\sim$49. Total mean score of the five sanitary performance evaluators was 4.73 for elementary school. Ingredient control score was 4.86, process control 4.80, and personal hygiene 4.79. But the sanitary education field score was 4.48, which was significantly lower than the total mean score. Safety management score was 4.73. The main source of sanitary education for school foodservice employees was verbal education.

Objectives: This study conducted practical training to improve the proper usage of personal protective equipment(PPE), which greatly impacts workplace safety and health management. Personal protective equipment education was conducted through active participation, without theoretical modules, and aimed to identify the effects of repeated practical education and determine ways to increase participant satisfaction. Methods: Study data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics ver.29 software. First, participants' general characteristics were analyzed with frequency analysis. Second, the normality and equality of variances (Leven's test) were tested for the dependent variables prior to statistical analyses to determine the use of parametric tests. In general, normality is assumed when the sample size is 30 or more per the central limit theorem (Park et al., 2014). As our sample size of health management workers was 43, normality can be assumed. However, to ensure rigor of the study, we examined skewness and kurtosis. The results confirmed that the data were normally distributed. Third, the effects of repeated PPE training were analyzed using paired t-tests. Fourth, differences in satisfaction with PPE training according to the safety and health job position and safety and health certification were analyzed with t-test and Welch's t-test. For parameters that did not meet the assumption of equal variances, the Welch's t-test was performed. Results: Repeated PPE training improved the educational outcomes, and the improvements were significant in the 1st and 2nd respiratory PPE and safety and hygiene PPE training evaluations (p<.001). In terms of safety and health job position, repeated training led to improvements in educational outcomes, with significant improvements observed among supervisors and specialized health management institution workers in the 1st and 2nd training evaluations (p<.005). In terms of safety certification, repeated training led to improvements in educational outcomes, with significant improvements observed among both certified and non-certified individuals (p<.005). Regarding satisfaction with PPE training according to safety and health job positions, specialized health management institution workers showed greater satisfaction than supervisors, with significant differences in the satisfaction for expertise of lecture, work relevance, and lecturer's attitude (p<.001). Regarding satisfaction with PPE training according to safety and health certification, satisfaction was higher among certified individuals, with significant differences in satisfaction for work relevance and lecture attitude (p<.05) Conclusions: PPE education should be recommended to be provided as practical training. Repeated training can enhance educational outcomes for individuals with inadequate knowledge and understanding of PPE prior to education. For individuals with high levels of pre-existing knowledge and understanding of PPE, the results show that various training experiences should be provided to enhance their satisfaction. Objectives: 1) To determine mercury levels in urine samples from garbage workers in Southern Thailand, and 2) to describe the association between work characteristics, work positions, behavioral factors, and acute symptoms; and levels of mercury in urine samples. Methods: A case-control study was conducted by interviewing 60 workers in 5 hazardous-waste-management factories, and 60 matched non-exposed persons living in the same area of Southern Thailand. Urine samples were collected to determine mercury levels by cold-vapor atomic absorption spectrometer mercury analyzer. Results: The hazardous-waste workers' urinary mercury levels (10.07 ${\mu}g/g$ creatinine) were significantly higher than the control group (1.33 ${\mu}g/g$ creatinine) (p < 0.001). Work position, duration of work, personal protective equipment (PPE), and personal hygiene, were significantly associated with urinary mercury level (p < 0.001). The workers developed acute symptoms - of head-aches, nausea, chest tightness, fatigue, and loss of consciousness at least once a week - and those who developed symptoms had significantly higher urinary mercury levels than those who did not, at p < 0.05. A multiple regression model was constructed. Significant predictors of urinary mercury levels included hours worked per day, days worked per week, duration of work (years), work position, use of PPE (mask, trousers, and gloves), and personal hygiene behavior (ate snacks or drank water at work, washed hands before lunch, and washed hands after work). Conclusion: Changing garbage workers' hygiene habits can reduce urinary mercury levels. Personal hygiene is important, and should be stressed in education programs. Employers should institute engineering controls to reduce urinary mercury levels among garbage workers.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to minimize cross infection that can take place within dental office, to make dental workers recognize importance of infection management, and to improve dental-care environment that is exposed to infection. Methods : It conducted the self-reported questionnaire survey on the practice of wearing PPE(personal protective equipment) from April 1, 2008 to May 30 targeting 180 dental workers who are working for dental offices where are located in Jeonnam region. Results : 1. As for research subjects' general characteristics, age was the largest in under 29 years old with 75.0%. It was surveyed to be large in over 5 years(56.1%) for working career, in a city(83.3%) for working region, and in having licence of dental hygienist(75.0%). 2. As a result of surveying the practice of wearing PPE, wearing mask given dental care was surveyed to have the highest practice level with 75.6%. Wearing protective glasses showed the lowest practice ratio with 23.3%. 3. As a result of surveying the difference in the practice of wearing PPE according to general characteristics, the difference according to the working region was surveyed to be the greatest. Conclusions : As the above result, the education of infection management for dental workers needs to be performed continuously even after curriculum of school. Even the in-service education on infection management needs to be vitalized. Also, the necessity was examined for always recognizing and practicing importance of infection by using a method of publishing newsletter via post to dental clinics where are located in rural area, with considering regional deviation.
Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the attitude toward medical health information in the dental hygiene students. Methods: The subjects were 370 dental hygiene college students in the metropolitan area. A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 350 students from March 2 to May, 3, 2014. Except 20 incomplete answers, data were analyzed by frequency analysis, t-test, and one-way ANOVA using SPSS 12.0 program. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, satisfaction of internet use, and attitude toward medical health information. Results: Most of the students had personal computers and they did not receive computer education. The students used internet in the variety of the fields. Satisfaction level was 3.28 by 5 point Likert scale. The attitude toward medical health information was 3.20. They would not use computer if possible, and the score was 3.50 points that was the highest mark. There was no statistically significant difference in medical health information by the general characteristics of the subjects. Conclusions: The attitude toward medical health information was not fully satisfactory in many fields. The curriculum for the dental hygiene must include step-by-step computer course and the computer education must provide the diverse educational opportunities for the students.

This study aimed to investigate and compare the perception of personal protective equipments and instrument sterilization of students who are in attendance at colleges and universities and which have bedside training as a regular subject in their curriculum for third-year students. 'Completely True' is the highest response to the question about the importance of wearing gloves, mask and medical gown from all groups. 'Completely True' is the highest response to the question about the necessity for replacement of gloves from all groups. 'Moderate True' is the highest response to the question about the necessity for replacement of mask from the group without practical training and 'Completely True' is the highest response to the question about the importance of hair cleanliness from all groups regardless of practical training experience. For the question about the perception of instrument disinfection and sterilization, the group with inside and outside practical training showed the highest perception level. Consequently, the right education for prevention of infection by setting inclusive guidelines to enhance the level of perception and practice seems continuously necessary.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate nursing students' awareness and performance on standard precautions and to provide meaningful information for nursing students' education regarding hospital infection control. Method: Four hundred forty seven nursing students at 6 universities in D-city participated in this study. Data collection was conducted from March to April 2011. Students' awareness and performance on standard precautions of infection control in hospitals were measured using the modified 2007 CDC standard precautions guidelines. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS WIN 18.0 program, descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA. Results: The level of students' awareness in the standard precautions was higher than performance. The higher levels of students' awareness and performance on standard precautions included patient care equipment, safe injection practices, and worker safety. The lower levels of students' awareness and performance on standard precautions included hand hygiene and personal protective equipment. There was no difference in the students' awareness and performance of standard precautions according to their characteristics. Conclusions: Based on the findings of this study, hand hygiene and personal protective equipment need to be stressed more within the program to improve nursing students' infection control techniques.

Object: we investigated some factors which can affect workers' comprehension of chemical hazard information and their actions to protect themselves from the hazard. Method: Comprehension score of chemical hazard information and the rate of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) was surveyed for the 109 workers from 15 factories who were exposed to N, N-dimethylformamide. Difference of the worker's comprehension score of hazard information was analyzed by education interval, work duration and the way of occupational safety and health management between self-managed or sub-contracted. Result: Mean comprehension score of N, N-dimethylformamide hazard, which was given as a short quiz composed of 10 "true" or "false" problems, was 65%. Mean percentage of wearing PPE was improved as the education program was done within a month but decreased after 6 months. Eighty seven % of workers got the chemical hazard information from the material safety data sheet placed at workplace. Conclusion: Education interval and comprehension score affected the rate of wearing PPE. The way of occupational safety and health management self-managed or sub-contracted did not affect the workers' comprehension score on hazard information nor the rate of wearing PPE.
The present study was conducted on 200 food handlers employed at restaurants with open-kitchens in Seoul to evaluate their food sanitation knowledge levels and practices. A majority of participants (88%) replied that open-kitchens are more hygienic than common kitchens due to the sanitary cooking process. The correct answer rate was 94.3% for sanitation of instruments and utensils and environmental sanitation, whereas food handling sanitation (66.8%) was ranked at the bottom among food sanitation knowledge. Total scores of food sanitation knowledge were significantly influenced by education level and ages of food handlers (p<0.001). Personal hygiene knowledge level of food handlers regarding institutional food service was higher than that of food handlers at restaurants and bakeries (p<0.001). Food sanitation practices scores showed significant differences in personal hygiene (p<0.001) and environmental sanitation (p<0.05) according to certificate possession. As the result of correlation analysis between food sanitation knowledge and practices, there was no significantly positive correlation, whereas a significant positive correlation was observed between knowledge of food handling and personal hygiene practices (p<0.05). The results show need for improvement in both knowledge and practice levels of open-kitchen food handlers. Consistent and customized food sanitation education program should be developed to protect against food poisoning at open-kitchen restaurants.
The purpose of this study was to examine the needs of dental hygiene students at a lifelong education center of a three-year-course college for a credit bank system. The subjects in this study were 200 dental hygiene students at a college located in J, which offered courses of a credit bank system. A survey was conducted from May 19 to 23, 2008, to gather data on the acquisition of a bachelor's degree and the credit bank system, and the answer sheets from 184 respondents(92%) were collected. After the collected data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 12.0 program, the following findings were given: 1. In regard to an intention of taking a bachelor's degree, the largest number of the students investigated(74.5%) intended to do that if they had any chance. As for the reason, 55.6% wanted to get the degree in pursuit of their own personal development. 2. Concerning how to win a bachelor's degree, the largest group that accounted for 63.0% preferred the credit bank systems of college lifelong education centers. 41.8% got interested in the credit bank system mainly because their acquaintances informed them of it. It shows that colleges should reinforce publicity activities if they want to offer the credit bank system. 3. The quality of educational programs and cost had an impact on the choice of an educational institution when they planned to get a bachelor's degree from the credit bank system. Therefore excellent educational programs should be provided, and the government should provide learners with economic help and fund educational institutions. 4. As to comparison of a regular college and the credit bank system as a way to get a bachelor's degree, that was considered to be helpful for finding a job(a mean of 3.39) and for the development of sociability(3.22). That was also deemed to be of use for the improvement of practical job performance, to win public recognition and to be helpful for being well-cultivated, though not many students had those opinions. They took a different view according to academic year(p<.05). 5. Regarding the expected effects of getting a degree from the credit bank system, the greatest group expected it to step up their personal development(3.85). The second largest group expected it to boost job efficacy(3.30), and the students whose academic year was higher had a better opinion. 6. As for future directions for the credit bank system, the largest group put emphasis on the improvement of social perception through intensive P.R. and the enhancement of the qualifications of professors and lecturers(4.02). These opinions were more stressed by the juniors than by the sophomores and seniors, and academic year made a significant difference to their views(p<.05).
