  • The Design Protection Act of Korea classifies industrial designs into examined-based and unexamined-based articles. For design application and registration under the DPA, applicable product for the design needs to be chosen in order for it to be registered. Clothing and personal belongings under class B in the classification list are subject to unexamined-based articles. A sound and logical classification system will lead to higher administrative efficiency as well as assurance of more convenience for the system users. This paper examines the suitability of the design classification for clothing and personal belongings and purposes to suggest improvements.

  • This study is conducted to find ways to develop design and research activities on personal belongings for the aged generation and aims to promote the industry and improve welfare of the elderly population by enhancing their quality of lives. Researches on policy papers, journals and published books show high growth potentials for elderly related industries due to rapid aging, retirement of baby boomer population and quality-oriented life styles. Regulations and standard, however, are lacking and, with shortage of R & D investment, human resources have not been secured in this industry. This is a niche market that has definite consumers. Therefore, it has been confirmed that when design and research efforts are made in this field, it can contribute to the benefit of aged generation as well as the development of the national economy.

  • Smartphone is very much ingrained into our lives and it has propagated rapidly. With the growing expansion of smartphone, the number of lost smartphones has proliferated all the while. Unlike common personal belongings, smartphone is a high-priced goods and has personal information. In case it gets lost or stolen, it will cause monetary damage as well as secondary damage of personal information leaks. To lesson the damage, diverse applications that prevent the loss of a smartphone have been developed. But existing applications place emphasis on providing countermeasures that tracks the missing smartphones. Therefore, this paper describes the design and implementation of a smartphone application which provides precautionary functions to prevent the loss of a smartphone and countermeasures to track the missing smartphone. The implemented application prevents the loss of a smartphone using satefy zone and movement detection. In the event we lose a smartphone, it helps us recover a lost property using location tracking and remote control functions quickly and efficiently.

  • In this paper we will discuss a general idea about an information system which provides information a user really needs in user's authentication. We will discuss how RFID could be applied for this kind of system especially from the standpoint of using RFID as a way to collect information of personal belongings. Also we will discuss security issues of using RFID as a component of the proposed system because while RFID could provide usefulness, it could also be very dangerous for revealing private information without user's awareness.

  • Although technological advances have allowed the efficient collection of large amounts of microbiome data for microbiological studies, proper analysis tools for such big data are still lacking. Additionally, analyses of microbial communities using poor databases can lead to misleading results. Hence, this study aimed to design an appropriate method for the analysis of big microbial databases. Bacteria were collected from the fingertips and personal belongings (mobile phones and laptop keyboards) of individuals. The genomic DNA was extracted from these bacteria and subjected to next-generation sequencing by targeting the 16S rRNA gene. The accuracy of the bacterial matching percentage between the fingertips and personal belongings was verified using a formula and an environment-related and human-related database. To design appropriate analysis, the bacterial matching accuracy was calculated based on the following three categories: comparison between qualitative and quantitative analysis, comparisons within same-gender participants as well as all participants regardless of gender, and comparison between the use of a human-related bacterial database (hDB) and environment-related bacterial database (eDB). The results showed that qualitative analysis, comparisons within same-gender participants, and the use of hDB provided relatively accurate results. This study provides an analytical method to obtain accurate results when conducting studies involving big microbiological data using human-derived microorganisms.
