  • The equivalent model of a permanent magnet (PM) plays an important role in electromagnetic system calculation. A type of subsection model for a PM bar is established, to improve the accuracy of the traditional equivalent circuit method. The mathematical expression, and its end verification condition, are presented. Based on the analytical method and finite element method, the leakage permeance calculation of a PM bar in an open magnetic circuit is investigated. As an example, for a given certain type of PM bar, the magnetic flux of each section is validated by experiment, and by simulation. This model offers a foundation for building a high accuracy equivalent magnetic PM model in an electromagnetic system.

  • This paper deals with characteristic analysis of axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) machines with axially magnetized PM rotor using quasi-3-D analysis modeling. On the basis of magnetic vector potential and a two-dimensional (2-D) polar-coordinate system, the magnetic field solutions due to various PM rotors are obtained. In particular, 3-D problem, that is, the reduction of magnetic fields near outer and inner radius of the PM is solved by introducing a special function for radial position. And then, the analytical solutions for back-emf and torque are also derived from magnetic field solutions. The predictions are shown in good agreement with those obtained from 3-D finite element analyses (FEA). Finally, it can be judged that analytical solutions for electromagnetic quantities presented in this paper are very useful for the AFPM machines in terms of following items : initial design, sensitivity analysis with design parameters, and estimation of control parameters.

  • The electrical relay in an essential part of the Smart Grid, Electrical Vehicle (EV) and LED lightning system. For these reasons, research of electrical relay is actively underway. In this paper, analyze of the relationship between the bouncing of relay contact and magnetic flux of permanent magnet. Experiment result, changes the bouncing numbers depending on the magnetic flux of the latching relay. And find the value of the magnetic flux that occurs to minimize the bouncing of the contacts. In additions, by the increasing the magnetic flux, unconditional bounce is not reduced. The bouncing number of latching relay is less than expected the armature relay for present results. Further experiments are need to prove it, bouncing on the armature relays.

  • This paper considers the design and performance evaluation of interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs). The initial design such as the sizing and shape design of the stator and rotor is performed for a given load condition. In particular, the equivalent magnetic circuit (EMC) is employed both to design the mechanical parameters of the rotor while considering nonlinear magnetic saturation effect and to analyze the magnetic characteristics of the air-gap of the motor. The designed motor is manufactured and tested to confirm the validity of the design processes and simulated results.

  • In this paper, we propose a bearing redundant coordinates and decoupled PD controller for 5-axes active magnetic bearing system, which consists of two bearing parts such as three-pole hybrid active magnetic bearing for stabilize the radial direction and ring-type permanent magnetic bearing stabilizing in axial and tilting motion. Based on derived system equation with decoupled control scheme, we conduct the modal analysis and measure of modal controllability and observability.

  • This paper deals with magnetic field and characteristic analysis for ring type slotless synchronous motors by using analytical method. Since magnetic air-gap in the slotless motors is much larger than mechanical air-gap, it is necessary to analyze the magnetic flux distribution at the whole magnetic airgap region. therefore, this paper analyzes the duplicated magnetic field derived by both Permanent Magnet(PM) and armature current and estimates the back electromotive force and torque characteristic by subdividing the conductor region. The analysis results are verified by comparing with Finite Element Analysis(FEA) results.

  • In this paper, we proposes a study on air gap control for magnetic levitation of transverse flux permanent magnet electromagnets. In general, mechanical systems have a high failure rate of bearings. Bearings in particular are problematic because they have high surface wear rate and degradations. To solve this problem, replacing the bearing with a magnetic levitation electromagnet system can provide lightweight and efficiency improvements. However, precise air gap control is essential to control the magnetic levitation electromagnet system. Therefore, in this paper, we identify the instable cause of gap control through a mathematical modeling and verify through experiment a control algorithm that can use compensation.

  • A finite element model was built for MnBi/${\alpha}$-Fe nanocomposite permanent magnets, and the demagnetization curves of the magnets were simulated by micro-magnetic calculation. The microstructure of the cubic model is composed of 64 irregular grains with an average grain size of 20 nm. With the volume fraction of soft magnetic phase (t vol. %) ranged from 5 to 20 vol. %, both isotropic and anisotropic nanocomposite magnets show typical single-phase permanent magnets behavior in their demagnetization curves, illustrating good intergranular exchange coupling effect between soft and hard magnetic phases. With the increase of volume fraction of soft magnetic phase in both isotropic and anisotropic magnets, the coercive force of the magnets decreases monotonically, while the remanence rises at first to a peak value, then decreases. The optimal values of maximum energy products of isotropic and anisotropic magnets are 84 and $200kJ/m^3$, respectively. Our simulation shows that the MnBi/${\alpha}$-Fe nanocomposite permanent magnets own excellent magnetic properties and therefore good potential for practical applications.

  • For the application into a 1 kWh flywheel energy storage system(FESS), this paper presents the design scheme of radial and axial hybrid magnetic bearings which use bias fluxes generated by permanent magnets. In particular, the axial hybrid magnetic bearing is newly proposed in this paper, in which a permanent magnet is arranged in axial direction so that it can support the rotor weight as well as provide a bias flux for axial magnetic bearing. Such hybrid magnetic bearings consume very low power, compared with conventional electromagnetic bearings. In this paper, to stably support a 140 kg flywheel rotor without contact, design process is explained in detail, and magnetic circuit analysis and three-dimensional finite element analysis are carried out to determine the design parameters and predict the performance of the magnetic bearings.

  • This paper describes research results for the measurement and analysis method of magnetic signatures generated from the ship's magnetic mock-up model. In this paper, we present the theoretical and experimental techniques for the separation of the permanent and the induced magnetic field from the measured magnetic signature of the mock-up model. Also, we describe the prediction method of the induced magnetic field generated from mock-up model using the Magnet s/w, one of the FEM analysis tools for the electro-magnetic field and the magnetic dipole modelling method based on the least square techniques. The proposed modelling and analysis methods can be used for the prediction and the analysis of the static magnetic field generated from the real naval ship as well as the mock-up model.
