Nano-Second Periodically Poled Lithium Niobate Optical Parametric Oscillator with Planar Cavity Mirrors

  • We investigated a high-output ower, periodically poled lithium niobate(PPLN) optical parametric oscillator(OPO) pumped by a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. Given the low optical damage threshold and the limited aperture (0.5mm thick) of PPLN, we tried to maximize the signal output power in a linear cavity consisting of two flat mirrors with a loosely focused pump beam. It is found that this simple cavity structure allowed a robust OPO operation, which was not sensitive to alignment compared with the conventional ones using concave mirrors. A maximum energy of 100$\mu$J/pulse was achieved for the signal at 1.36${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, while the oscillation threshold was 0.3 mJ/pulse for the pump at 1064 nm.

  • Sound insulation effect of periodically arranged circular rods is studied by numerical method (BEM) and model experiment in anechoic room. Five different cylinder groups of diameter from 48 mm to 27 mm are arranged, where each group consists of 5 rows of identical rods and area ratio is kept almost the same as 60%. Comparisons of results by BEM and experiment show the band gap frequency ranges are qualitatively in agreement, while experiments gives higher attenuations. Frequency shifted attenuations (BEM results) by first group (${\phi}$48), third group (${\phi}$34) and fifth group (${\phi}$27) show that attenuation curves are in reasonable agreements for both plane wave and point source.

  • 계교가 주기적으로 변하는 디지탈 필터(P. V. 디지탈 필터)와 Multiplexing Weaver 변조기를 이용하여 구성한 12-channel의 TDM/FDM 변환 장치를 제안하였다. 일반적으로 Weaver변조기를 이용한 12-channel의 TDM/FDM 변환장치는 24개의 인터포레이팅 FIR(finite impulse response) 디지탈 필터와 24개의 정현파 발진기가 필요하지만 본 연구에서 제안한 12-channel의 TDM/FDM 변환장치는 한 개의 P. V. 디지탈 필터와 12개의 정현파 발진기가 필요하다. 그 결과로 변환 장치가 단순하여지고 계산 시간이 현저하게 감소하였다. 제안된 시스템은 전산기에 의한 시뮬레이션 과정을 통하여 타당성이 확인되었다.

실린더의 회전 주파수 진동이 Taylor 와류에 미치는 영향 (EFFECTS OF OSCILLATING FREQUENCY ON TAYLOR VORTICES)

  • We study time-periodic Taylor-Couette flow with the outer cylinder at rest and the inner one oscillating with a mean angular velocity. Varying the frequency of inner cylinder, we investigate the change of Taylor vortices at a given amplitude and a mean angular velocity. With a small frequency of modulation, we find that Taylor vortices appear and disappear periodically. With a higher frequency, Taylor vortices do not disappear, but the intensity of Taylor vortices modulates periodically. As the frequency increases, Taylor vortices modulate harmonically.

  • A bar with periodically nonuniform material properties is selected as a one-dimensional model of a flat-panel speaker. This paper describes a theoretical approach to the bending waves propagating in the nonuniform bar. The phase speed of the wave is obtained using perturbation techniques for small amplitude, sinusoidal modulation of the flexural rigidity and mass density. It is shown that the wave speed is decreased due to the nonuniformity of the material properties by the amount proportional to the square of the modulation amplitude.

  • Using the novel microstripline with periodically perforated ground metal, a miniaturized 1/4 ${\lambda}$ transformer was fabricated. The line width of the 1/4 ${\lambda}$ transformer was 20${\mu}m$ and the size of it was 0.0085$mm^2$, which is 1.2% of conventional one. The 1/4 ${\lambda}$ transformer exhibited good RF performances from 10 to 25GHz.

  • In this paper, a new method for the stability analysis of a pipe conveying fluid which pulsates periodically is presented. The finite element model is formulated liking into consideration of the effects of the fluid pulsating in a pipe. The damping and stiffness matrices in the finite element equation vary with time due to pulsating fluid. Coupled effects of several harmonic components in the velocity of fluid to a pipe is discussed. A new unstable region appears which will not appear in the stability analysis of single pulsating frequency. A method to directly estimate the forced response of pipe is also discussed. The results presented in this paper are verified by the time domain analysis.

  • $KNbO_3$is one of the best materials for efficient nonlinear frequency conversion, due to its large nonlinear optical coefficient ($d_{33}$ = 20.6 pm/V), wide transparency range (0.4 ~ 5 $\mu$m) and freedom from photorefractive effects. Quasi-phase-matched second harmonic generation using periodically poled $KNbO_3$ (PPKN) crystals has been reported. Terahertz Generation Based on Cascaded Difference Frequency Generation with Periodically-poled KTiOPO4

  • Terahertz (THz) generation by periodically-poled $KTiOPO_4$ (PPKTP) with a quasi-phase-matching scheme based on cascaded difference frequency generation (DFG) processes is theoretically analyzed. The cascaded Stokes interaction processes and the cascaded anti-Stokes interaction processes are investigated from coupled wave equations. THz intensities and quantum conversion efficiency are calculated. Compared with non-cascaded DFG processes, THz intensities from 10-order cascaded DFG processes are increased to 5.53. The quantum conversion efficiency of 479.4% in cascaded processes, which exceeds the Manley-Rowe limit, can be realized.

  • Based upon the Floquet theory, the complex modal solution for general rotor systems with periodically time-varying parameters is newly derived. The complete modal response can be obtained from the orthonormality condition between the time-variant eigenvectors and the corresponding adjoint vectors. The harmonic solutions such as the response and directional special a patterns are then derived in terms of harmonic modes whose coefficients are obtained from the modal analysis. The stability analysis by the Floquet's transition matrix and the eigen-analysis is also performed.
