  • Recently, there have been efforts to construct hybrids among the existing methodologies for multiphase flow such as VOF, Level Set, and Front Tracking with the intention of facilitating simulations of general three-dimensional problems. As one of the hybrid method, we have developed the Level Contour Reconstruction Method (LCRM) for general three-dimensional multiphase flows including phase change. The main idea was focused on simplicity and a robust algorithm especially for the three-dimensional case. It combines characteristics of both Front Tracking and Level Set methods. While retaining an explicitly tracked interface using interfacial elements, the calculation of a vector distance function plays a crucial role in the periodic reconstruction of the interface elements in the LCRM method to maintain excellent mass conservation and interface fidelity. In addition, compact curvature formulation is incorporated for the calculation of the surface tension force thereby reducing parasitic currents to a negligible level.

  • Maintaining materialized views and/or replica can basically be considered as a client-sewer architecture that extracts the changes of the distributed source data and transfers them to the relevant target sites. View maintenance and materialized views are considered to be important for suggesting solutions to the problems such as a decision support, active databases, a data warehouse, temporal databases, internet applications, etc. In this paper an analysis is addressed that formulates the cost functions and evaluates them as the propagation subjects, objects, and update policies. The propagation subject can be the client side, sewer side, and the third: and the objects can be base tables, semi-base tables, and delta files: And the update policies can be the immediate, deferred and periodic ones, respectively.

  • Cognitive Radio (CR) technology is proposed for using the unused spectrum band efficiently because of the spectrum scarcity problems. Spectrum sensing is one of the most challenging issues in cognitive radio system. In this paper, we focus on the signal detection of WiBro system band. As most of the modulated signals can be treated as cyclostationary random process, we can detect the signal of the OFDM signals in WiBro system. OFDM symbols using WiBro system have several pilot subcarriers and periodic pilots have cyclostationary characteristic. To improve the detection performance, we get diversity gain using multiple antennas.

  • This paper presents a comprehensive approach to the evaluation of macroscopic material parameters for natural stone and quarry masonry. To that end, a reliable non-linear material model on a meso-scale is developed to cover the random arrangement of stone blocks and quasi-brittle behaviour of both basic components, as well as the impaired cohesion and tensile strength on the interface between the blocks and mortar joints. The paper thus interrelates the following three problems: (i) definition of a suitable periodic unit cell (PUC) representing a particular masonry structure; (ii) derivation of material parameters of individual constituents either experimentally or running a mixed numerical-experimental problem; (iii) assessment of the macroscopic material parameters including the tensile and compressive strengths and fracture energy.

  • One of the most important things in mobile phone service is Hand-Off (H/O). Meantime soft H/O and softer H/O have been used between the same generations (2G↔2G) and there is little problem. With user's needs and the development of communication technology, the system with different generation coexists and pilot beacon and time-periodic beacon are used for H/O between generations (2.5G↔2G) to start service, but it is not economic and efficient. To improve such problems, ENHHO developed in April 2001 has recently used. Unfortunately, this method also has the defect of momentary cutoff of communication information during the procedure of H/O in case of more than 5 pilot signals. Accordingly, we suggest algorithm to improve the problem of ENHHO and examines its propriety by analyzing the results of field survey using the algorithm.

  • In this paper, RCF(Resistive Companion Form) analysis method which is used to analyze small signal stability problems of non-continuous systems including switching device. The RCF analysis method are applied to the power systems with the thyristor controled FACTS equipments such as TCSC. As a result of simulation, the RCF method is very powerful to calculate the oscillation modes exactly after the switching operations, and useful to analyze the small signal stability of power systems with switching devices such as FACTS equipments. As an applicable example of the RCF method in power system, the one machine infinite bus system including TCSC at generator terminal bus is investigated and the results proved that variations of oscillation modes after periodic switching operations of TCSC can be calculated exactly.

To apply the RCF analysis method in power system small signal stability problems, state transition equations of power system equipments and power systems with SSSC are presented. In eigenvalue analysis of power systems by the RCF analysis method, SSSC is modelled into the equivalents voltage source model and PWM switching circuit model. • Since 1995, the facility of class 1 and 2, classified by law had been subject to system of post maintenance management where periodic safety inspection and diagnosis to identify any problems and to take appropriate measures as a matter of urgency. Although the standards and systems had been revised many times for continuous improvement due to surrounding environmental factors, the technical factors and other factors for improvements, continuous researches and efforts are needed to ensure even higher effectiveness. Furthermore, the consciousness of the management body that executes and implements such improvements for facility management is most important. Therefore in this study, through such analysis, more realistic management consciousness review was performed. Also the direction for improvements is proposed, to carry out more effective facility safety management systems implementation.

  • The drilling experiment of carbon fiber epoxy composite material with WC-drill has been done under the various cutting condition in order to minimize the problems occured in the material when being drilled. It has been comfirmed by a frequencyanalysis of the cutting force signals that the variation of cutting force resulted from the periodic variation of the angle between the rotating drill and the stacking angle of the carbon fiber. The drilling experiment has been done with several drills having different point angles and the drilling characteristics, like the effects such that change in the point angle influences the cutting force and the external surface condition, was evaluated.

  • In a packet switching network, congestion is unavoidable and affects the quality of real-time traffic with such problems as delay and packet loss. Packet fair queuing (PFQ) algorithms are well-known solutions for quality-of-service (QoS) guarantee by packet scheduling. Our approach is different from previous algorithms in that it uses hardware time achieved by sampling a counter triggered by a periodic clock signal. This clock signal can be provided to all the modules of a routing system to get synchronization. In this architecture, a variant of the PFQ algorithm, called digitized delay queuing (DDQ), can be distributed on many line interface modules. We derive the delay bounds in a single processor system and in a distributed architecture. The definition of traffic contribution improves the simplicity of the mathematical models. The effect of different time between modules in a distributed architecture is the key idea for understanding the delay behavior of a routing system. The number of bins required for the DDQ algorithm is also derived to make the system configuration clear. The analytical models developed in this paper form the basis of improvement and application to a combined input and output queuing (CIOQ) router architecture for a higher speed QoS network.
