  • This paper exploited the data reported in BK21 program of professors' research performances and analyzed the effects of reputational concerns on professors' research performances. According to the established theory of reputation effects in incentive provision, a professor's research incentive gets stronger if one's ability is less known, and one's colleagues' abilities are better known. We confirmed this theoretical hypothesis of reputation effects. Moreover, we found that a professor's research incentive was larger under inter-generational grouping in terms of age distribution and homogeneous grouping in terms of ability uncertainty.

  • This study aims to examine the difference between market orientation, organizational service orientation, performances (employee satisfactions and business performances) across the type of hotel grade, and investigate the effect on performances of market orientation, organizational service orientation, and interaction of these two factors. For these purposes the authors developed 13 research proposals. The data for this research which were collected from Korean hotel firms’ managers and employees were analyzed with one-way ANOVA, regression analysis. The findings can be summarized as follows. First, five-star hotels display higher levels of market orientation, organizational service orientation, performance (employee satisfaction, business performance) than four-star and three-star hotels. Second, market orientation, organizational service orientation, and interaction of these two variables have significant effects on performances(employee satisfaction, business performance).

  • Reciprocal crosses were conducted between three strains of Taiwan Country chickens, developed in the National Chung-Hsing University, and two strains of Single Comb White Leghorns, developed in the Taiwan Livestock Research Institute. Traits studied were growing performances, laying performances, egg quality traits and traits concerning disease resistance, including resistance to Marek's disease virus and immune responses to Newcastle disease virus vaccine and to sheep red blood cell. Results indicated that laying performances of Taiwan country chickens were much inferior to White Leghorns, but they matured earlier, their eggs had better shell strength and larger proportion of yolk, and their general disease resistance was much better than White Leghorns. Heterosis were found in laying performances and egg quality traits. The heterosis in laying traits was so large that the hybrid laid as many eggs and as large eggs as did pure strains of White Leghorns. Strategies on the improvement of native chickens and the utilization of genetic merits of native chickens were also discussed.

  • The effect of pitch on tone durations was studied in several poeces of music. In previous work it was found that higher pitched sounds, of a given duration, were perceived to be of longer duration. That work however, was not undertaken in a musical context. The present work was done to determine whether the previously observed trend was also apparent in musical performances. Several measurements were undertaken. One of these involved analysing the recorded performance duration of notes in several performances of the Mozart Flute Quartet in A-mojor, K.298. Performed durations were also obtained from a Bach Flute Sonata and a Brahms Clarinet Quintet. An analysis of the musical performances revealed that while there were individual differences and exceptions in notes, the musicians tended to play higher notes significantly shortened.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the factors affecting earth science problem-solving performances of elementary school pre-service teachers. The participants of the study were 81 students attending an elementary school teacher education university. The instruments of the study were paper-and-pencil tests, questionnaires, and interviews. The tests mainly measured the participants' problem solving abilities in the motions of the moon and the planets. Correlation and multiple regression techniques were used for data analysis. The results demonstrated that the pre-service teachers' problem solving abilities were low. Problem-solving performances were affected by the procedural knowledge, the participants' perception of the past earth science performance, self-efficacy, and the prerequisite declarative knowledge. Contrary to our expectation, the spatial visualization ability was not found to be related to the problem-solving performances. Implications of the study are drawn, and suggestions are made for further research.

  • This paper suggested a new sensorless driving strategy for brushless de motor which can improve the conventional degradation of highspeed operating performances, lowspeed operating performances and starting performances caused by applying general single pwm switching frequency. By varying PWM switching frequency during operating time, the proposed method can get some desired upper performances. For confirming the validity of the proposed method, the sensorless driving system is implemented with an rPM module and 87c196MC micro controller.

  • For the purpose of improving performances of a turbocharged diesel engine at low speed, this study investigates the effects of the injected air for the performances and flow characteristics in the intake and exhaust pipes by using the computer simulation with test bed. In the theoretical analysis, the whole flow system, including engine cylinders and intake and exhaust pipes, is calculated numerically by the method of filling and emptying. From the results of this study, the following conclusions may be summarized. Increasing injected air pressure into the pipe of compressor exit brings about the improvement in a performance and flow characteristics of intake and exhaust pipes under full load operating conditions at 1000 rpm of the engine speed, but shows trends of the inferior performances under no load operating conditions at 2000 rpm of the engine speed.

  • The objectives of this study were to analyze characteristics and role performances of rural leaders and to verify leadership difficulties in organizing rural society. The data were collected from 273 rural leaders selected by stratified random sampling, and the SPSSWIN 10 was used for analyzing data. The major findings of this study were as follows; 1) Leadership role performances of rural leaders were higher than the average scores of non-leaders. 2) Men's leadership role performances were higher than women's except in facilitator role. 3) Leaders in city/county level were more successful in doing leadership performances than community level leaders. 4) Rural leaders were seeking other leaders for discussing problems in leadership. 5) The most difficulties of rural leaders were unconcerns and disinterest of rural people for community development.

  • KHST(Korean High-Speed Train, 350km/h), composed of 7 cars that are 2 power cars, 2 motorized car and 3 trailer cars, has been developed and is under on-line test. To verify hte design requirements about the functions and traction performances of this train, KRRI(Korea Railroad Research Institute) decided to evaluate traction performances of the train during on-line test. For this purpose, such as torque, velocity, voltage and current, must be measured. BRRI has developed the measurement system that can be measured vast and various signals effectively. In this paper, we introduce traction performances of KHST. The traction measurement items are focused on the verification of motor block performances.

  • The case company has driven the six sigma innovation programme company wide for the last seven years without any stop in spite of the CEO change. There was neither any benchmark nor the sufficient number of internal experts during the initial stage of driving six sigma. However, the company raised a lot of innovation experts such as MBB, BB and GB, thereby successfully changed the way of employees' doing work and reaped an enormous amount of either visible or invisible performances as a result of implementing the six sigma innovation programme. This paper deals with both main activities undertaken at each stage of the innovation life cycle of six sigma and their performances in a ICT (Information Communication Technology) industry. The performances are described from the four aspects of a balanced score card (BSC) and finally some strategic implications suggested.
