Aspects of the current trend in lubricants and future challenges are discussed. The discussion highlights key enviromnental issues regarding to resource conservation, toxicological consideration and environmental acceptability. Also highlighted are base stocks trends relative to hydroprocessed stocks (HVI, VHQ and XHQ), synthetic base stocks (PAO and organic esters) and biodegradable fluids (vegetable oils and special esters). Equipment severity and lubricant performance quality are briefly described.

An experimental study was conducted to evaluate the bond performance of reinforcing bars embedded in high-strength concrete. Four bond specimens and ten beam splice specimens using concrete with compressive strength of 246kgf/$cm^2$ and 64lkgf/$cm^2$ were tested. The effect of several variables on basic development length and compressive strength of concrete is discussed in splice specimens. The test results showed that the current trend in concrete specification of making the splice length longer to compensate for having smaller cover and spacing may not be an effective approach.

Flexible electronics devices such as plastic display, thin film battery, membrane switch, organic memory for smart card applications will be presented. The performance and power consumption of various display technologies will be compared for OTP requirement in smart cards. Wireless power transmission by RF coupling through an antenna provides a potential power solution to smart cards. Finally, the general trend of smart card future developments will be discussed.

This paper presents the survey of technical trend in AD converters for wireless communication systems. This paper provides explanations about the performance measure of ADC in wireless communication application and the relation ship between BER versus effective resolution and sampling speed. The survey suggests that at least one step analog frequency down conversion is required for software defined radio systems due to current technological limit.
