  • In case of aged porcelain, the failure in basic performance tests happened in cool-heat tests. Based on this characteristic, we studied the method predicting failure phenomena through more severe accelerated cool-heat ageing and accelerating thermal mechanical performance tests. Test results indicated that the thermal stress by temperature gradient was more severe parameter than thermal stress by quenching cycles within a category of standard or accelerating methods. And there is no the deterioration of statistic strength, but the deterioration of strength according to accelerating tests is serious.

  • Testing and validation processes are critical tasks in developing a new hardware platform based on a new technology. This paper describes a series of experiments to evaluate the performance of a newly developed MEMS-based wireless sensor node as part of a wireless sensor network (WSN). The sensor node consists of a sensor board with four accelerometers, a thermometer and filtering and digitization units, and a MICAz mote for control, local computation and communication. The experiments include calibration and linearity tests for all sensor channels on the sensor boards, dynamic range tests to evaluate their performance when subjected to varying excitation, noise characteristic tests to quantify the noise floor of the sensor board, and temperature tests to study the behavior of the sensors under changing temperature profiles. The paper also describes a large-scale deployment of the WSN on a long-span suspension bridge, which lasted over three months and continuously collected ambient vibration and temperature data on the bridge. Statistical modal properties of a bridge tower are presented and compared with similar estimates from a previous deployment of sensors on the bridge and finite element models.

  • As bridge design is advancing toward the performance-based design. it becomes increasingly important to monitor and re-evaluate the long-term structural performance of bridges. Such information is essential in developing performance criteria for design. In this research. sensor systems for long-term structural performance monitoring have been installed on two highway bridges. Pre1iminary vibration measurement and data analysis have been performed on these instrumented bridges. On one bridge, ambient vibration data have been collected. based on which natural frequencies and mode shapes have been extracted using various methods and compared with those obtained by the preliminary finite element analysis. On the other bridge, braking and bumping vibration tests have been carried out using a water truck In addition to ambient vibration tests. Natural frequencies and mode shapes have been derived and the results by the breaking and bumping vibration tests have been compared. For the development of a three dimensional baseline finite element model, the new methodology using a neural network is proposed. The proposed one have been verified and applied to develop the baseline model of the bridge.

  • Mounts for shipboard equipment in naval ships play an important role for vibration and shock suppression. New large-capacity resilient mounts, SDR-D30 and SDR-D45, have been developed. This paper involves performance tests for the mount which have maximum load of 30 kN and 45 kN, respectively. The performance tests have been carried out for several mounts based on military standards, such as MIL-M-19863D(SH), MIL-M-21693C(SH), MIL-M-17508F(SH), and MIL-S-901D(NAVY). The test items consist of deflection at upper rate load test, dynamic stiffness, uniformity, static load-deflection(axial, transverse and longitudinal), drift test, fatigue test, and shock test. From these performance tests, it is confirmed that the two mounts have good performances based on military standards.

  • An Area Radiation Monitoring System (ARMS) ionization chamber, which had an 11.8 L active volume, was fabricated and performance-tested at KAERI. Low leakage currents, linearities at low and high dose rates were achieved from performance tests. The correlation coefficients between the ionization currents and the dose rates are 1 at high dose rate and 0.99 at low dose rate. In this study, an integration-type ARMS ionization chamber was tested over a year for an evaluation of its long-term stability at a radioisotope (RI) repository of the Young-gwang nuclear power plant. The standard deviation of dose rate of 1 day data and over a 100-days mean value were 6.2 $\mu$R/h and 2.9 $\mu$R/h, respectively. The fabricated ARMS ionization chamber showed stable performance from the results of the long-term tests. Design and performance characteristics of the fabricated ionization chamber for the ARMS from performance-tests are also addressed.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and retention period of immediate remediation for infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in child care teachers. Methods: This study used a nonequivalent comparison pre- and post-test design to measure knowledge about and confidence in infant CPR and an interrupted time-series design to determine skill performance. The experimental group (n=25) received both immediate remediation and video learning for infant CPR, and the comparison group (n=28) received video learning only. Knowledge and confidence were measured before and after 4 weeks. Their skill performance was tested immediately, and 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks, and 24 weeks after intervention. Data analysis consisted of ${\chi}^2$ tests, t-tests, paired t-tests, and a generalized linear mixed model. Results: There were significant increases in knowledge and confidence within the experimental group. Skill performance showed a significant difference according to the group factor (F=10.81, p=.002) and measurement time (F=146.80, p<.001). The experimental group maintained significantly higher skill performance than did the comparison group. Conclusion: These findings support the necessity of immediate remediation education for infant CPR to maintain skill performance. In addition, appropriate renewal time and the improvement of training programs for child care teachers are necessary.

  • Ship's hydrodynamic coefficients in manoeuvring equations are generally derived by captive model tests or numerical calculations. Empirical formulas have been also proposed in some previous researches, which were useful for practical predictions of hydrodynamic coefficients of a ship by using main dimensions only. In this study, ship's hydrodynamic coefficients based on empirical formulas were optimized by using its free running test data. Eight manoeuvring performance indices including steady turning radius, reach in zig-zag as well as well-known IMO criteria indices are selected in order to compare simulation results with free runs effectively. Sensitivities of hydrodynamic coefficients on manoeuvring performance indices are analyzed. And hydrodynamic coefficients are tuned within fixed bounds in order of sensitivity so that they are tuned as little as possible. Linear and nonlinear coefficients are successively tuned by using zig-zag and turning performance indices. Trajectories and velocity components by simulations with tuned hydrodynamic coefficients are in good agreements with free running tests. Tuned coefficients are also compared with coefficients by captive model tests or RANS calculations in other previous researches, and the magnitudes and signs of tunes are discussed.

  • The actual power performance of historical structural change tests are compared under various alternatives. The tests of interest are F, CUSUM, MOSUM, Moving Estimates and empirical distribution function tests with both recursive and ordinary least-squares residuals. Our comparison of the structural tests involves limiting distributions under the hypothesis, the ability to detect the alternative hypotheses under one or double structural change, and smooth change in parameters. Even though no version is uniformly superior to the other, the knowledge about the properties of those tests and connections between these tests can be used in practical structural change tests and in further research on other change tests.

  • In this paper, the performance of bridge health monitoring system(BHMS) installed in suspension bridge was tested and the field loading tests have been done by using BHMS to get quantitative results on the response of bridge. Before the field tests, globally structural analysis was performed to verify and estimate the test results and the static and dynamic field loading tests were carried out. Depending on comparison with results of field tests and structural analysis, field tests results were evaluated as 30%~50% less than structural analysis results, so it was confirmed that the bridge has excellent structural performance. Therefore field test results were measured within an acceptable error range, so it is verified that the BHMS in the bridge has been reliable and efficient.

  • In this study, in order to asses the structural performance of trapezoidal PSC girder using a socket joint system and it is possible to calculate the optimized cross-section of the web element tests were carried out for each specimens. we conducted a socket joint performance test, web bending and shear performance tests and all tests were performed at 4 point loading method. The initial crack load of socket joint specimen was significantly lower than the reference specimen but post peak behavior was no significant differences. And the length of the loop joint of the reinforcing bars had no significant effect on the maximum load. As a web shear tests, to obtain a maximum load of the specimen has a prestressing rod reinforced at tension side. As a web flexural tests, to obtain higher diagonal cracking load in specimen of reinforced using prestressing rod than reference specimen.
