Comparison of Three Different Slip Meters under Various Contaminated Conditions

  • Objectives: To challenge the problem of slipperiness, various slipmeters have been developed to assess slip hazard. The performance of in-situ slipmeter is, however, still unclear under the various floor conditions. The main objectives of this study were to evaluate the performance of three kinds of slipmeters under real conditions, and to find their dynamic and kinematic characteristics, which were compared with gait test results. Methods: Four common restaurant floor materials were tested under five contaminants. Slipmeters and human gaits were measured by high speed camera and force plate to find and compare their dynamic and kinematic characteristics. Results: The contact pressures and built-up ratio were below those of subjects. The sliding velocity of British Pendulum Tester was above those of subjects, while those of BOT-3000 and English XL were below those of subjects. From the three meters, the English XL showed the highest overall correlation coefficient (r = 0.964) between slip index and $R_a$, while the rest did not show statistical significance with surface roughness parameters ($R_a$, $R_z$). The English XL only showed statistical significance (p < 0.01) between slip index and contaminants. The static coefficient of friction obtained with the BOT-3000 showed good consistency and repeatability (CV < 0.1) as compared to the results for the BPT (CV > 0.2) and English XL (CV < 0.2). Conclusion: It is unclear whether surface roughness can be a reliable and objective indicator of the friction coefficient under real floor conditions, and the viscosity of contaminants can affect the friction coefficient of the same floors. Therefore, to evaluate slipperiness, the performance of the slipmeters needed to improve.

아크릴 수지로 코팅한 배수성 아스팔트 콘크리트의 특성 평가 (Characterization of Porous Asphalt Concrete Coated with MMA Resin)

  • 본 연구는 배수성 아스팔트 포장의 표면을 아크릴 수지로 코팅 처리할 경우 내구성 측면 및 기능적 측면에서 어떠한 효과가 있는가를 실내시험을 통해 평가하는 기초적인 연구이다. 포장의 내구성 측면에서는 칸타브로 및 휠트래킹, 수분손상 간접 인장 피로 시험 등을 실시하였다. 시험결과 시편을 수지로 코팅을 한 경우 칸타브로 손실률이 3배 정도 감소되었고 균열에 대한 저항성도 대폭 향상되었으나 수분손상 및 소성변형의 저항성은 큰 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 기능적인 측면에서는 코팅 전 후의 투수계수 및 공극률 BPT(British Pendulum Tester)를 사용한 미끄럼 저항성의 변화를 측정하였다. 시험결과 공극률 및 투수계수는 약간 저하되나 기능상의 문제는 없을 것으로 판단되며, 미끄럼 저항성은 규사를 살포하지 않을 경우 미끄럼 저항성이 감소되나 규사를 살포할 경우 코팅 전 수준 이상의 미끄럼 저항성을 확보하는 것으로 나타났다.

Development of an ACL Anchor: Effects of the Design Parameters on the Performance of a New Anterior Cruciate Ligament Fixation Device

  • We investigated the biomechanical properties of a newly designed self-expansion type anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) anchor. The ACL anchor consists of the ring section giving the elastic force, the wedge for maintaining in contact with the femur tunnel wall and the link suspending hamstring graft or artificial ligament. The main design parameters that determine the performance of this device were the expansion angle (${\theta}$) and the thickness ($t_R$). The Ti6Al4V anchors were heated after inserting in a jig for 1 hour at $800^{\circ}C$ in a protective argon gas atmosphere and allowed to cool to room temperature in the furnace. In order to investigate the influence of the expansion angle and the thickness of the ring on the biomechanical properties of the anchor, the maximum pull-out load, stiffness and slippage of the ACL anchor were measured using the pull-out tester, and statistical analyses were also executed. The present results showed that the design parameters gave a significant effect on the performance of the self- expansion type of anchor. The pull-out load of the ACL anchors significantly increased as the thickness of the ring section was increased, having a similar trend for both expansion angles. The ACL anchor showed about 2.5 times higher values of the pull-out load than that of the minimum load (500N)required for the "accelerated rehabilitation". The optimum ${\theta}$ and $t_R$ values of this ACL anchor were suggested to have sufficient resistance against the pull-out force, high stiffness and relatively low slippage after ACL reconstruction.

가정환경 특성과 연령에 따른 지능검사 소검사에서의 수행 (Performance in subtests of Intelligence Scale Based on HOME environment Stimuli and Age)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 가정환경의 자극 특성과 연령에 따른 웩슬러 아동용지능검사의 소검사별 수행을 알아보는데 있었다. 이를 위하여 만 6-16세 아동 청소년 128명을 대상으로 훈련받은 검사자가 K-WISC-IV를 실시하였으며 아동의 어머니에게 가정의 물리적, 정서적 특성에 대한 HOME를 실시하였다. 연령에 따라 만 6-10세와 11-16세 집단별로 분석한 결과 두 연령집단 모두 전체 지능 및 언어이해 지표와 가정환경자극 간 유의미한 정적 상관이 발견되었다. 6-10세 집단의 경우 가정환경자극의 하위영역 중 언어적 자극 및 학습자료가 언어이해, 작업기억, 지각추론, 전체 지능과 유의미한 관련성이 있었으며, 11-16세 집단의 경우, 자기조력 장려 및 학습자료가 전체지능, 언어이해, 작업기억 지표와 유의미한 정적 상관이 있었다. 본 연구의 주요 결과가 논의되었으며, 향후 지능검사의 개정을 반영한 새로운 소검사의 수행과 가정환경자극 간 관련성이 연구되어야 할 필요성이 제시되었다.

윤활제 특성에 따른 시트 리클라이너 부품의 마찰 및 마모 특성 (The Friction and Wear Characteristics of the Seat Recliner Parts Based on Lubricant Characteristics)

  • The driver seat of an automobile is in direct contact with the driver and provides the driver with a safe and comfortable ride. The seat consists of a frame, a rail, and many recliners. In recent years, strength and operating force measurement testing of the recliner have become vital for designing car seats. However, performance evaluation requires expensive testing equipment, numerous seat products, and considerable time. Therefore, the trend is to reduce experimentation through interpretation. This study examines the lubrication of solid lubricant for automotive seat recliners and confirms the friction and wear performance. In this study, the lubrication behavior of solid lubricants for car seat recliners is investigated to ascertain the friction and wear performance and to provide accurate values for the strength analysis. The friction material consists of a pin and a plate made from steel, which is widely used in recliners. The friction and wear under lubrication conditions are measured by a reciprocating friction wear tester. The friction coefficient is obtained according to the load and speed. Based on the obtained results, it is possible to achieve a reduction in the error of the test value and the analysis by providing the friction coefficient and wear of the lubricant. The results can be applied to the analysis of automobile seat design.

일반국도에 적용한 마이크로서페이싱공법과 폴리머슬러리실공법에 대한 현장 공용성 평가 (Field Performance Evaluation of Micro-surfacing Method and Polymer Slurry Seal Method Used in National Highway)

  • PURPOSES : Recently, crack, rutting, and stripping problems from the surface of asphalt pavements in National highway are observed and they affect the drivers to feel uncomfortable on the road. Surface treatments are recommended to use in distressed pavements due to cost-effective, and improvement of surface performance. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of micro-surfacing and polymer slurry seal treatments for distressed asphalt pavements. METHODS : Surface conditions and friction resistance are evaluated for asphalt pavements treated with micro-surfacing and polymer slurry seal mixes in National highway 30 line and 34 line. Visual observation is conducted and surface performance is measured by PES (Performance Evaluation Surveyor) in terms of crack ratio, rutting and IRI(International Roughness Index). BPN(British Pendulum Number) is measured by BPT(British Pendulum Tester) to evaluate the friction resistance in the field. RESULTS : The surface evaluation results are presented for asphalt pavement treated with micro-surfacing and polymer slurry seal treatments in National highway 30 line and 34 line. Based on the visual observation, micro-surfacing and polymer slurry seal treatments show better improvements in terms of cracks and stripping. Based on the surface conditions measured by PES vehicle, the surface performance of micro-surfacing treatments improves from 53.3% to 54.2% and the surface performance of polymer slurry seal treatments improves from 21.6% to 59.7%. However, the friction resistance of both micro-surfacing and polymer slurry seal treatments decreases from 2.5% to 6.7%. Further, it should be verified to produce the surface exposed with aggregates during the construction process of both treatment methods in the field. CONCLUSIONS : Based on the performance evaluation results in the filed, the surface performance of asphalt pavement treated with micro-surfacing and polymer slurry seal treatments improves from 21.6% to 59.7%. While, the friction resistance of asphalt pavement treated with micro-surfacing and polymer slurry seal treatments does not improve. It can be concluded that current micro-surfacing and polymer slurry seal treatments would improve surface performance but would not improve the friction resistance.

노출시간과 열강도에 따른 복사열 노출후의 소방보호복의 물리적 특성과 역학적 특성변화 (Changes of Physical and Mechanical Properties of Firefighter Protective Clothing After Radiant Heat Exposure)

  • the change of physical properties (thickness, weight, air permeability) and mechanical properties(abrasion resistance breaking load and displacement) of samples were determined after heat exposure by a RPP tester. The effect of exposure time and heat flux intensity on the changes and the relationship between physical properties and mechanical properties were investigated. FR treated cotton Kevlar/PBI and Nomex with different structureal characteristics were chosen for specimens. The changes of physical properties and mechanical properties were calculated based on their initial values before heat exposure. The longer exposure time and the high heat flux intensity the more changes of those properties. Heat flux intensity was more effective on the changes, The showed to be affected by an interplay of shrinkage and pyrolysis products loss. The changes of thickness and abrasion resistance showed to be higher for plain weave fabric and those of air permeabiliyt and breaking load and displacement for twill weave fabric. While FR treated cotton which have high RPP value experienced serious and detrimental changes after heat exposure Kevlar/PBI which has low RPP value showed no high changes. In conclusion it could be confirmed that when total performance of a protective clothing is estimated retention capability of physical and mechanical properties after heat exposure as well as RPP value must be considered.

초음파를 이용한 모바일 비파괴 검사 시스템 (Mobile NDT Inspection System Using Ultrasonic)

  • In order to inspect the quality of spot welding, inefficient destructive test and NDT (non destructive testing) utilizing expensive foreign ultrasonic inspection are being conducted in the automobile production lines, but NDT will be difficult to be used in the domestic automobile production due to complexity of the waveform analysis and lack of mobility. In this paper, NDT system inspecting the quality of spot welding based on mobile network is proposed to complement drawbacks of the conventional inefficient destructive testing and NDT inspecting the quality of spot welding. Regardless of daily condition of NDT tester, the proposed NDT system can determine the quality of spot welding automatically and transmit the information of NDT quality to smart devices of field workers in real-time so that convenience of NDT and productivity of automobile production will be improved. Several specimens with a variety of welding quality was produced to evaluate the performance of the proposed mobile ultrasonic NDT system and the conventional foreign equipment, through this experiments, the proposed mobile ultrasonic NDT system indicate the superior properties compared to the conventional equipment in terms of convenience, productivity, and economic.

글리세린 처리에 의한 종이의 물성 변화 (Effect of glycerine treatment on the properties of paper)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the influence of glycerine on the properties of paper. Two types of glycerine treatment were used. First type, when making handsheets, glycerine was added in the plup slurry. Second type, copying paper was soaked in glycerine solution. Microwave treatment was used for the test of paper degradation. The obtained results were summarized as follows: 1. The glycerin was very effective to improve the property of softness. 2. The glycerine was helpful to increase sizing performance of paper as a fixing agent of sizing emulsion. 3. Curl tester was comparatively useful for the measuring of sizing degree.

자동 간극 조절기를 갖는 항공기용 유압식 브레이크 조립체 개발 (Development of an Aircraft Hydraulic Brake Assembly with a Self-gap-adjuster)

  • This study was conducted to develop the hydraulic brake assembly for MUAV(Medium-altitude Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). The brake assembly has the self-gap adjuster which performs to maintain a constant gap between the piston and the disk, even if the friction pad wore down. The function of adjuster helps to keep the brake-reaction speed constant and prevent the unnecessary abrasion of the wear pad during the life of the brake assembly. The development of the aircraft hydraulic brake assembly with the self-gap-adjuster in this paper is the first ever in South Korea. The concept of the mechanism was defined and the formula which is necessary to calculate the friction force was set up in the paper. The tester was invented for the functional test and the proper operation of the self-gap-adjuster was confirmed through the test. Dynamo tests and flight tests were also carried out to verify the braking performance of the brake assembly.
