In this paper, we propose a signal propagation modeling technique for generating a positioning fingerprint DB based on Long Term Evolution (LTE) signals. When a DB is created based on the location-based signal information collected in an urban area, gaps in the DB due to uncollected areas occur. The spatial interpolation method for filling the gaps has limitations. In addition, the existing gap filling technique through signal propagation modeling does not reflect the signal attenuation characteristics according to directions occurring in urban areas by considering only the signal attenuation characteristics according to distance. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a Deep Neural Network (DNN)-based signal propagation functionalization technique that considers distance and direction together. To verify the performance of this technique, an experiment was conducted in Seocho-gu, Seoul. Based on the acquired signals, signal propagation characteristics were modeled for each method, and Root Mean Squared Errors (RMSE) was calculated using the verification data to perform comparative analysis. As a result, it was shown that the proposed technique is improved by about 4.284 dBm compared to the existing signal propagation model. Through this, it can be confirmed that the DNN-based signal propagation model proposed in this paper is excellent in performance, and it is expected that the positioning performance will be improved based on the fingerprint DB generated through it.

Music performance techniques have been primarily trained by apprenticeship. The technique transfer, which relies on the imitation of experience and actual performance without scientific evidence, required the pianists more time and effort than necessary. However, if the players in the field discover the principles of universally applicable piano playing techniques in collaboration with scientists, they will avoid errors and prepare a new paradigm in the development of piano playing techniques. This is why music performance science is needed. Little has been studied about it in Korea, but it has been activated abroad since the mid-1990s. The core science of music performance science is expected to be computer science fitting data analysis. In this paper, we introduce music performance science for the pianist and present how computer can help it.
Among location-based systems, a route search service is very highly utilized as a representative technique, but it provides relatively low accuracy when we find a route path on foot in our real environment. In this paper, we design and implement an optimized route search technique based on user experience utilizing open APIs as location-based services. Finally, we develop an Android-based application to provide this feature. In our experiment, we found that our technique enhanced performance by about 14-36% compared to previous solutions, such as route path searches using map APIs. In addition, the performance of our technique can be further enhanced, as the number of users who find such optimized route path is increasing.

In this study magneto-rheological damper, a kind of semi-active device, is used to reduce the response of pier and girder of bridge structure subjected to seismic excitation and as a effective semi-active control method fuzzy control technique considering nonlinear behavior of the damper dynamics. By Numerical simulations of a nine span continuous bridge system subjected to various earthquakes, fuzzy control technique is compared with existing clipped optimal control technique in control performance which reduces displacement of pier and girder simultaneously. In the comparison of the control performance within a control force limit, it is confirmed that presented fuzzy control technique more efficiently reduce the pier and girder displacement than clipped optimal control technique based on optimal control theory.
A new PWM technique for a two-phase BLDC motor fed by a two-phase eight-switch inverter is proposed in this paper. It is well known that a two-phase eight-switch inverter can significantly improve power output compared with a two-phase six-switch inverter in a two-phase motor drive. To drive the two-phase BLDC motor simply and effectively, two normal PWM strategies are investigated to manage speed regulation. However, under the conditions of low speed and light load, especially during the braking process, the current in a short time of one period is near zero, which is a discontinuous waveform every half period. To solve it, a novel PWM technique is investigated to improve the operational performance of normal technique. Using the new PWM scheme, the current continues every half period and the braking performance is improved. The effectiveness of the proposed PWM method is verified through the experiments.
The present paper describes a new technique for associating images employing a set of local constraints among pixels on an image. The technique describes the association problem in terms of consistent labeling which is an abstraction of various kinds of network constraints problems. In this particular research, a pixel and its gray value correspond to a unit and a label, respectively. Since constraints among units on an image are defined with respect to each n-tuple of pixels, performance of the present association technique largely depends on how to choose the n-tuples on an image plane. The main part of this paper is devoted to discussing this selection scheme and giving a solution to it as well as showing the algorithm of association. Also given are some results of the simulation performed on synthetic binary images to examine the performance of proposed technique, followed by the argument on further studies.
In this paper, we proposed a post-processing technique for improving classification performance of electronic nose (E-Nose) system which may be occurred drift signals from sensor array. An adaptive radial basis function network using stochastic gradient (SG) and singular value decomposition (SVD) is applied to process signals from sensor array. Due to drift from sensor's aging and poisoning problems, the final classification results may be showed bias and fluctuations. The predicted classification results with drift are quantized to determine which identification level each class is on. To mitigate sharp fluctuations moving-averaging (MA) technique is applied to quantized identification results. Finally, quantization and some edge correction process are used to decide levels of the fluctuation-smoothed identification results. The proposed technique has been indicated that E-Nose system was shown correct odor identification results even if drift occurred in sensor array. It has been confirmed throughout the experimental works. The enhancements have produced a very robust odor identification capability which can compensate for decision errors induced from drift effects with sensor array in electronic nose system.

A stereoscopic particle tracking velocimetry (SPTV) technique based on the 2-frame hybrid particle tracking velocimetry (PTV) method was developed. The expansion of 2D PTV to SPTV is facilitated by the fact that the PTV method tracks individual particle centroids. To evaluate the performance and measurement accuracy of the present SPTV technique, it was applied to flow images of rigid body translation and synthetic standard images of jet shear flow and impinging jet flow. The data processing routine and measurement uncertainty of the SPTV technique are compared with those of conventional stereoscopic particle image velecimet.y (SPBV). In addition, the centroid translation effect of 2D particle image velocimetry (PIV) is defined and its effect on SPIV measurements is discussed. Compared to the SPIV method, the SPTV technique has inherited merits of concise and precise velocity evaluation procedures and provides better spatial resolution and measurement accuracy.
On-chip caches of graphics processing units (GPUs) have contributed to improved GPU performance by reducing long memory access latency. However, cache efficiency remains low despite the facts that recent GPUs have considerably mitigated the bottleneck problem of L1 data cache. Although the cache miss rate is a reasonable metric for cache efficiency, it is not necessarily proportional to GPU performance. In this study, we introduce a second key determinant to overcome the problem of predicting the performance gains from L1 data cache based on the assumption that miss rate only is not accurate. The proposed technique estimates the benefits of the cache by measuring the balance between cache efficiency and throughput. The throughput of the cache is predicted based on the warp occupancy information in the warp pool. Then, the warp occupancy is used for a second bypass phase when workloads show an ambiguous miss rate. In our proposed architecture, the L1 data cache is turned off for a long period when the warp occupancy is not high. Our two-level bypassing technique can be applied to recent GPU models and improves the performance by 6% on average compared to the architecture without bypassing. Moreover, it outperforms the conventional bottleneck-based bypassing techniques.
Inter-process communication (IPC), which is a technique that enables exchanging data among multiple processes, is commonly used not only in user applications but also in system processes. For this reason, the performance of IPC highly influences the performance of whole computer system. Especially, heavy overload on a single server process caused by IPC requests from multiple client processes, easily results overall slowdown of IPC response time. Here, to deal with the problem stated above, the time-slice donation technique which is adapted in L4 microkernel is analyzed and enhanced for reducing latency of IPC response time and implemented on linux kernel for actual performance evaluation. While trying to maintain the additional overhead as least as possible, the experiment shows that the use of this technique enhances the performance of IPC multiple times of existing technique under certain circumstances.
