제주도에서 채집된 촉수과 어류 1미기록종, Upeneus tragula (First Record of the Freckled Goatfish, Upeneus tragula (Mullidae, Perciformes) from Korea)

  • 촉수과에 속하는 Upeneus tragula 2개체가 제주도에서 채집되어 한국 미기록종으로 기재한다. 이종은 가슴지느러미 연조 수 13개, 측선 비늘 수 29개, 새파수 19개를 갖고 있다. 그리고, 첫 번째와 두 번째 등지느러미에 다소 불규칙한 무늬가 있으며 몸의 측면에는 작은 크기의 점들이 비교적 넓게 분포하였고, 특히 꼬리지느러미의 상엽과 하엽에 여러 개의 짙은 줄무늬가 뚜렷하게 존재하여 우리나라에 현재 보고된 Upeneus속 3종과 형태적으로 쉽게 구분된다. 따라서, 이 종의 새로운 국명은 "검은줄촉수"로 제안한다.

  • 우리 나라 남해 서부 연안에서 1996년 4월부터 1997년 3월까지 월 1회 어류를 조사하여 19목 82과 149속 190종을 채집하였다. 그 가운데 농어목은 94종이 출현하여 전체 출현종의 49%를 차지하였다. 채집된 어류중 두줄망둑 Tridentiger trigonocephalus, 실양태 Repomucenus valenciennei 및 풀반댕이 Thryssa adelae가 가장 우세하게 출현하였다. 또한 황해고유종인 왜도라치 Chirolophis wui, 흰베도라치 Pholis faugi, 참돛양태 Repomucenus koreanus, 비늘흰발망둑 Acanthogobious luridus 등이 출현하여 이 지역은 황해의 영향권에 있음을 알 수 있었다.

우리나라 완도 연안에서 채집된 망둑어과 (농어목) 한국 첫기록종, Luciogobius parvulus (First Record of Gobiid Fish, Luciogobius parvulus (Perciformes: Gobiidae) from Wando Island, Korea)

  • 우리나라 전라남도 완도군 연안의 조간대 조사에서 Luciogobius parvulus 10개체(체장 42.8~49.0 mm)를 채집하였다. 본 종은 제 2등지느러미의 기조수 10~11개, 뒷지느러미 기조수 11~12개, 가슴지느러미 기조수 11~12개, 가슴지느러미 상부의 유리기조와 배지느러미가 부재하는 특징이 있다. 본 조사에서 확인된 모든 개체는 조간대의 자갈해안에서 채집되었으며, 물이 고여 있지 않은 자갈틈에서 서식하였다. 본 종의 한국명으로 '민미끈망둑'을 제안한다.

  • Triglopsis quadricornis Linnaeus, 1758 (Cottidae) is distributed in the Atlantic and Arctic and has four unique bony protuberances on its head. Here, we report the complete, circular, and annotated mitochondrial genome of T. quadricornis. The complete T. quadricornis mitochondrion was sequenced by high-throughput Illumina HiSeq platform. The sequences are 16,736 bp in size and contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, a control region, and large and small ribosomal subunits. The overall genomic structure of T. quadricornis mitochondrion was conserved with the gene arrangement of Megalocottus and Myoxocephalus species, and phylogenetic analysis supports their sister relationships. Most PCGs consist of TAA or TAG as a termination codon, whereas COII, ND4, and CYTB have T-- as a stop codon. This complete mitochondrial DNA information of T. quadricornis will provide an essential genomic resource to elucidate the phylogenetic relationship and evolutionary history of the family Cottidae.

한국 포항에서 채집된 나비고기과(Chaetodontidae) 어류 1 미기록종 Heniochus diphreutes의 최초 출현 (New Record of the Schooling Bannerfish Heniochus diphreutes (Perciformes: Chaetodontidae) from Pohang, Korea)

  • We collected a specimen of Heniochus diphreutes Jordan, 1903 belonging to the family Chaetodontidae on December 26, 2020 in Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, using the set net. Although, H. diphreutes is morphologically very similar to Heniochus acuminatus, it can be distinguished from the latter based on the number of dorsal fin spines, mostly 12 in H. diphreutes vs 11 in H. acuminatus, and the percentage of snout length in head length, which is less than 12% in H. diphreutes vs more than 13% in H. acuminatus. Compared to H. acuminatus, H. diphreutes has a shorter snout, two-three rows of teeth, convex ventral profile of the head, more angular anal fins, and a black pattern extending to the longest soft rays on the posterior part of the anal fin. Molecular analyses showed that our specimen perfectly matched H. diphreutes based on mtDNA COI sequences data. We propose a new Korean name for H. diphreutes, "Jjal-beun-ib-du-dong-ga-li-dom".

  • 우리나라 연안성 어류자원 미발굴 분류군 탐색을 위해 제주도 남부 연안해역에서 SCUBA를 이용한 수중조사 과정 중 2015년 9월 수심 약 15미터에서 망둑어과 한국첫기록종인 Callogobius shunkan 2개체(표준 체장 54.9~66.1 mm)를 채집하였다. 본 종은 살아있을 때 암갈색 바탕에 등지느러미 기저부에서 시작하는 3개의 흑갈색 안상반문이 있는 점, 두부 감각관과 잘 발달된 피습에 공기열이 배열되어 있는 점(특히 비공과 안와 후방에 공기열이 있는 점), 배지느러미막이 잘 발달된 점, 흑갈색 바탕의 체색에 백색 반점이 산재하는 특징이 있다. 본 종의 신한국명으로 '주름망둑'을 제안한다.

Complete mitochondrial genome of freshwater goby Rhinogobius cliffordpopei (Perciformes, Gobiidae): genome characterization and phylogenetic analysis

  • Freshwater gobies Rhinogobius cliffordpopei and R. giurinus are invasive species with particular concern because they have become dominant and were fierce competitors in the invaded areas in Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau (southwest of China). Information about genetic characteristics of R. giurinus have been published, but there were still no relevant reports about R. cliffordpopei. In present study, the complete mitochondrial genome of R. cliffordpopei was determined, which was 16,511 bp in length with A+T content of 51.1%, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, 2 ribosomal RNAs, and a control region. The gene composition and the structural arrangement of the R. cliffordpopei complete mtDNA were identical to most of other teleosts. Phylogenetic analyses placed R. cliffordpopei in a well-supported monophyletic cluster with other Rhinogobius fish. But the phylogenetic relationship between genus Rhinogobius and Tridentiger remained to be resolved.

제주도 신산 연안 정치망 어획물의 종조성 및 어획량 변동 (Species composition and variation of catches by a set net in the coastal waters of Sinsan, Jeju Island)

  • Species composition and variation of catches in the coastal waters of Sinsan of Jeju Island were determined using samples collected by a set net from May 2014 to October 2015. During the survey period, a total of 55 species (51 species, 35 families and 11 orders in fishes, 4 species, 2 families and 2 orders in cephalopods) were occurred, and Perciformes (28 species) were dominant fishes in this area. In the number of individuals and biomass, the small pelagic fishes such as Trachurus japonicus and Scomber japonicus were occurred abundantly, and both species accounted for 95.9% of the total catch by a fishing logbook of a set net. In the results of length-frequency distribution of small pelagic fishes caught by a set net in Sinsan, T. japonicus showed a range from 3.5-19.1 cm (average 8.8 cm) and S. japonicus showed a range from 7.0-25.6 cm (average 16.8 cm). In addition, these were mostly immature fishes.

First report of Ernogrammus zhirmunskii Markevich & Kharin, 2011 (Perciformes: Stichaeidae) in Dokdo, Korea

  • The first specimen (54.8 mm standard length) of Ernogrammus zhirmunskii Markevich & Kharin, 2011, belonging to the family Stichaeidae, was recorded in Dokdo, East Sea, Korea on July 26, 2021. This species was characterized by a single ventral lateral-line canal from the posterior margin of the pelvic-fin base extending to the anus and one or two rigid spines on the posterior part of the anal fin. This species is similar to Ernogrammus hexagrammus and Ernogrammus walkeri but differs in the number of ventral lateral-line canal present, with E. zhirmunskii consisting of one (unpaired) ventral lateral-line canal compared to other two Ernogrammus species, which have a pair of parallel ventral lateral-line canal. For further analysis of species identification, a partial gene sequence from the mitochondrial DNA cytochrome oxidase subunit I (554 bp) of E. zhirmunskii was obtained for the first time. This study documents the first record of E. zhirmunskii in Korean waters and proposes the new Korean name of 'Il-gob-julbe-do-la-chi' for the species.

  • A newly recorded chaetodontid species, Chaetodon speculum Cuvier, 1831 was collected in July, 2021 from Pohang, Korea. Its body color is yellow with black stripe across the eyes and a large spot occupying one fourth of the upper part of the body. C. speculum is very similar to congeneric species, C. zanzibarensis, but it can be distinguished by the size of the spot, shape of the lateral line, number of longitudinal line scales and geographic distribution. C. speculum is readily identified between post-larval stage and adult stage because of its similar external shape. Molecular analysis based on mitochondrial DNA COI sequences showed our specimen perfectly matched C. speculum. Therefore, we propose the new Korean name, "Heug-jeom-na-bi-go-gi" for C. speculum.
