  • This study compared the perception, necessity, and satisfaction of free school foodservice among parents of students with and without access to free school foodservice. The sample included parents of students with access to free school foodservice (FSF group, 250 parents) or paid school foodservice (PSF group, 250 parents) in Taean, Chungnam. With regard to perception of school foodservice, 30% of PSF parents responded that it is a necessary part of school education, whereas 52% of FSF parents considered it as a part of national welfare service; this difference was significant (P<0.001). In terms of positive remarks, most parents in the PSF group highlighted convenience whereas the FSF group answered that their children were penalized; this difference was significant (P<0.001). In addition, 94% of PSF parents and 96.8% of FSF parents indicated that school foodservice is necessary. In terms of the perception of the free school foodservice, more FSF parents (96.4%) than PSF parents (84.4%) answered that they knew free school foodservice well; this difference was significant (P<0.001). With regard to target recipients of the free school foodservice, most parents in the PSF group said that needy students should be selected, whereas the FSF group said that all students should be eligible; this difference was significant (P<0.001). Acceptance of free school foodservice in the FSF group (34.4%) was significantly higher than that in the PSF group (23.2%). Satisfaction with free school foodservice was 3.5 points in the FSF group, which was significantly higher than the 2.9 points in the PSF group (P<0.001). In summary, parents of students with access to free school foodservice showed more positive perception and higher satisfaction than parents of students with paid school foodservice. This study recommends that parents' suggestions be considered and further perception and responses on free school foodservice be investigated.

Methods: In this descriptive research the practice of PSM by nursing students was examined and predictive factors were identified. Participants were junior and senior nursing students from 7 universities in 7 cities. Self-report questionnaires were used for data collection. Results: Significant positive correlations were found between knowledge of PSM, perception of the importance of PSM and practice of PSM. In multivariate analysis, women students, participation in patient safety education in school, knowledge of PSM, and practice of PSM predicted high perception of the importance of PSM. In multivariate analysis, senior year and participation in patient safety education in school predicted higher knowledge of PSM. In multivariate analysis, perception of the importance of PSM predicted high practice of PSM. Conclusion: In this study, knowledge was not found to directly affect PSM practice, but was found to affect the perception of the importance of PSM, a significant predictive variable. Thus, the importance of PSM should be strongly emphasized during education.

  • There have been various educational approaches to foster students' creativity in engineering colleges, but little has been conducted based on empirical study results of students' perception on creativity education. This study aims to explore the students' perception on creativity in engineering such as characteristics of creative engineers, the level of individual or group creativity and creative education in engineering colleges. According to the survey results of 538 respondents, engineering students considered three factors such as 'innovative driven', 'eager for high intellectuality', 'activity expression' as characteristics of creative engineer. They evaluated both of individual or group creativity levels as subnormal. They perceived the importance of creativity education, but were not satisfied with current creativity educational experiences. They pointed out 'limited supports of nation or organization', 'credit system decided by the paper-based exam', 'non-systematized creativity classes' as impending factors for creativity in engineering education. Students suggested 'securing the budget for practice and field participation', 'changing of perception on creativity education itself', 'developing the creativity classes combined with engineering subjects' as fostering factors in creativity education. This studdy suggests several implications of educational approaches to creativity education in engineering colleges.

Method: The study used a Q-method to measure perception of clinical practice. Thirty-six statements made up the finalized Q-sample. The P sample used thirty three nursing college students from K university. The initial collection was done in the first semester of their junior year and second collection was done in the last semester of their senior year. The Q-sorts by each student were coded and analysed with the Quanl PC program. Result: Many students classified as having the perception type 'alienation of ideal and reality' or 'perception of limitation of ability' in the initial clinical practice changed to the type, 'active participation' by the final clinical practice. Further, in the initial clinical practice, part of 'active participation' and 'perception of limitation of ability' changed to 'alienation of ideal and reality'. Conclusion: This study shows that perception of their clinical practice by student nurses changed in a positive direction through clinical experience and that this fact was related to the level of satisfaction with nursing. The knowledge and understanding obtained in this research provide insights for nursing faculty and students involved in nursing education.

  • This article investigates perceptions and use of Open Access journals (OAJs) by master's degree students in two universities in the southwestern part of Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was used in the study and the study population was comprised of 7,423 master's degree students in the University of Ibadan and 1,867 from Obafemi Awolowo University. A multistage random sampling technique was used to select a sample size of 249 and the data collection instrument was a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, standard deviation, correlation, and regression analyses. The findings revealed that OAJs were used for learning, dissertation writing, personal research, and development. OAJs were not frequently used because of download delays, unavailability of Internet facilities, and limited access to computers terminals, among other issues. OAJs were found to be of relative advantage, positively perceived, and found to be compatible with existing values and quality assurance in scholarly publications, hence their use for academic activities. The regression analyses showed that there was a significant positive relationship between positive perception, perception of relative advantage, perception of compatibility, perception complexity, and master's degree students' use of OAJs. Negative perception was found to have a significant negative correlation with the use of OAJs. This article recommends that quality assurance of OAJs should be ensured in order to boost users' positive perceptions to increase their patronage and usage of these scholarly outlets for various academic activities, which will in turn encourage research and development across the various institutions of higher learning in Nigeria.
