  • The present study analyzed the effects of brand extension on the existing parent brand by applying the media brand extension model which previous studies had suggested based on consumer based brand equity model. Based on previous studies, the present study constructed a research model in which pre-brand extension parent brand evaluation, brand portfolio quality variance, perceived number of brand extensions, perceived fit between parent brand and brand extended channel, and brand extended channel evaluation are supposed to affect post-brand extension brand extension evaluation, and tested the media brand extension feedback effects model through structural equation modeling. The analysis results show that pre-brand extension parent brand evaluation, brand portfolio quality variance, perceived fit, and brand extended channel evaluation affect post-brand extension parent brand evaluation while the effect of perceived number of brand extensions is not significant.

A Cross Cultural Study of Antecedents of Purchase Intention for Sports Shoes in Korea and China

  • Sportswear, including sports shoes, becomes a common and popular category because it gives young people a more relax lifestyle and greater versatility and comfort. It is believed that consumers prefer products of developed countries to products of developing or underdeveloped countries. This study tries to compare consumer behaviors for sports shoes in China and Korea. Our research model analyzed relationships among country-of-origin, perceived quality, perceived price, brand image and purchase intention for sports shoes in Korea and China. The country-of-origin was not found to play a significant role in Korea. But it was found to positively influence perceived quality in China. Brand image was found to play an important role in influencing perceived quality and perceived price in Korea and China. Perceived quality was found to influence positively purchase intention in both countries. Perceived price was found to negatively influence purchase intention in China. Implications drawn from this study were discussed.

  • Private brands play an important role in formulating the marketing strategies of fashion goods. Merchandisers of Korean department stores are now realizing that the effective marketing of private brands can increase customers store loyalty as well as store profitability. Thus, it is important to better understand customer's decision making processes underlying the purchase of private brand apparels. However, Little research had been undertaken to examine integrated factors influencing purchases of private brand apparel. Therefore, the objective of this study is to propose a model of purchasing intentions of private brand apparel. This study pays attention to (1) perceived value, (2) familarity, (3) store image, (4) differenciated needs, (5) perceived risk, and (6) perceived quality variation of private brand. The proposed model supports all hypotheses presented in the paper. Purchase intentions of private brand increased as perceived money, familiarity, positive store image of private brands, and satisfaction of individuals differentiated needs increase. Furthermore, perceive value of private brand increased as perceived risk and quality variation of private brand increased.

  • Research on the construction, measurement, and management of brand equity has been extensive since David A. Aaker(1991) and Kevin Lane Keller(1993) first advanced the concept. Recently, much attention has been devoted to the components of brand equity: brand awareness, perceived quality, brand image, and brand loyalty. This study explores the relationships among these components, focusing particularly on the moderating role of product type (utilitarian vs. hedonic) in their causal relationships. A model to study the relationship among components of brand equity, particularly the moderating role of product type, is featured in Figure 1. The hypotheses of the study are proposed as follows: that consumers' brand awareness has a positive influence on brand loyalty and brand image; that consumers' perceived quality has a positive influence on brand loyalty and brand image; that consumers' brand image influences brand loyalty positively; and that relationships among components of brand equity will be moderated by product type. That is, in the case of utilitarian products, the impact of perceived quality on brand loyalty will be relatively stronger, whereas with hedonic products the impact of brand image on brand loyalty will be relatively stronger. To determine the products for the study, a pre-test of 58 college students in the Seoul metropolitan area was conducted based on the product type scale. As a result, computers were selected as the utilitarian product and blue jeans became the hedonic product. For each product type, two brands were selected: Samsung and HP for computers, and Levis and Nix for blue jeans. In the main study, 237 college students in the metropolitan area were surveyed to measure their brand awareness, perceived quality, brand image, and brand loyalty toward the selected two brands of each product type. The subjects were divided into two groups: one group (121 subjects) for computers, the other (116 subjects) for blue jeans. The survey questionnaires for the study included four parts: five questions on brand awareness and four questions each on perceived quality, brand image, and brand loyalty. All questions were to be answered using 7-point Likert scales. The data collected by the survey were processed to assess reliability and validity, and the causal relationships were analyzed to verify the hypotheses using the AMOS 7 program, a tool for analyzing structural equation modeling. A confirmatory factor analysis assessed the appropriateness of the measurement model, and the fit indices denoted that the model was satisfactory. The relationships among the components of brand equity were also analyzed using AMOS 7. The fit indices of the structural model denoted that it was also satisfactory. The paths in the structural model as will be seen in Figure 2 show that perceived quality affects brand image positively, but that brand awareness does not affect brand image. Moreover, it shows that brand awareness, perceived quality, and brand image are positively related with brand loyalty, and that this relationship is moderated by product type. In the case of utilitarian products, perceived quality has relatively more influence on brand loyalty. Conversely, in the case of hedonic products, brand image has relatively more influence on brand loyalty. The results of this empirical study contribute toward the advancement of our understanding of the relationships among the components of brand equity and expand the theoretical underpinnings for brand equity measurement. It also helps further our understanding of the effect of product type on customer-based brand equity. In a marketing management practice perspective, these results may provide managerial implications for building and maintaining brand equity effectively.

  • Cosmetic industry is a typical industry for domestic demand and is closely connected with domestic demand growth. In 2006, domestic cosmetics market is showing high growth rate due to the recovery of domestic demand and the market reorganization of sales channels is proceeding rapidly due to the recent global economic slowdown, Due to the situation, many companies are launching low-priced brand shop. The purpose of this study was to clarify the impact of marketing strategy of cosmetic brand-shop on consumers' purchasing intention. As the result of analyses, it was found that product, place, promotion factors of cosmetic brand-shop affect brand image. Also only product factor affects corporate image, perceived quality. And using regression analysis between brand image, corporate image, perceived quality and customer behaviors. Brand image and perceived quality factors influence consumers purchasing intention. Brand image has a positive impact on corporate image. And corporate image affects the perceived quality.

  • The purposes of this study were to identify brand image and advertising image perception maps of domestic make-up products. A self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. KYST, CORAN and SPSS PC(Ver. 12.0) were used for data analysis. The results were as follows: 1. Brand images of Etude, Isa Knox, and Laneige were perceived as unique, stimulative, high quality, elegant, modern, and sophisticated. Brand image of Cathycat was perceived highly in high quality, elegant, modern, and sophisticated, but low in unique and stimulative. Brand image of Lac Vert was perceived high in unique and stimulative, but low in high quality, elegant, modern, and sophisticated. Brand images of Hercyna and Vov were the lowest. 2. Advertisement images of Etude was perceived as modern, sophisticated, familiar, and unique, but Lac Vert was perceived adversely, Advertising images of Laneigne and Isa Knox were high in modern, sophisticated and familiar, but low in uniqueness. And advertising images of Hercyna, Cathycat, and Vov were perceived as modern, sophisticated, and familiar.

The Effects of Brand Equity on Consumer Attitude and Behavior : Food Market in Vietnam

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to practically analyze the effect of the brand equity of Korean food companies in Vietnam on the brand attitude and purchase intention of Vietnamese consumers. Research design, data, and methodology - In total, 240 subjects were examined in this study. The collected data were analyzed using statistical programs SPSS 21 and AMOS 21. The credibility of the variables was examined using the exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis. The hypothesis was examined through the structural equation model analysis. Results - It is proven that brand image and perceived quality are accepted, and the brand awareness is rejected from the hypothesis that "the brand equity has a positive effect on the brand attitude". However, the brand image and brand awareness are accepted, and the perceived quality is rejected from the hypothesis that "the brand equity has a positive effect on the purchase intention". Conclusions - The following are the conclusions of the study. First, among the components of brand equity, the brand image is confirmed to positively affect both brand attitude and purchase intention. Second, high brand awareness does not necessarily lead to positive brand attitudes of the consumers. Third, The brand image appears to positively affect the brand attitude and purchase intention. However, the awareness of consumers of a brand does not directly lead to positive consumer attitudes.

  • Experiential marketing focuses on the experience of customers to connect a company and a brand with the lifestyle of customers that influences buying behavior. This study investigates how the persons who experienced brand ambassadors for public relations as experiential marketing recognized brand equity, how personal satisfaction accomplished as a brand ambassador influenced brand equity, and how the effects are different based upon demographic information. The research methodology was a questionnaire distributed to individuals who experienced work as a public relations brand ambassador. A total of 104 returned questionnaires were analyzed by internal validity, t-test, and regression analysis with SPSS 12.0. The results of this study are as follows: Experiential marketing through a public relations brand ambassador positively influenced brand equity. The satisfaction at the company while working as brand ambassador positively influenced brand equity. Experiential marketing influenced more men than women regarding perceived quality and brand loyalty among brand equity. There is no significant differences regarding career (bank or apparel) among brand awareness, brand image, perceived quality, and brand loyalty.

The Relationships among Service Quality and e-Marketing with Trust and Loyalty to Brands of Mobile Telephone Operators in Kosovo

  • Purpose - This study explores the relationships between e-Marketing and perceived service quality with brand trust and loyalty towards the brand of mobile telephone operators in Kosovo. Research design, data, and methodology - The conceptual model of four constructs was developed, while each construct consisted of the set of variables measured by using five-point Likert scale. The primary data was collected via an online survey through SurveyMonkey, distributed via Facebook and email. The collected data were cleaned, validated and tested for its consistency through Cronbach's Alpha; ensured that five assumptions of multiple linear regression are met. To assess the relationships between outcome variable and dependent variables of the model, performed the bivariate correlation, simple, multiple linear and hierarchical regression. Results - Perceived service quality has a positive significant effect on brand trust and loyalty. e-Marketing presents moderating direct effect on brand loyalty, and slightly higher effect through brand trust of the mobile telephone operators in Kosovo. Conclusions - The perceived service quality and brand trust are key determinants in achieving brand loyalty in telecommunication industry, followed by e-Marketing as means to creating expectations, delivering on promise to meet customers' perceptions for service quality with a purpose of building trust, that leads to loyalty towards the brands of mobile operators in Kosovo.

The Effects of Perceived Quality Factors on the Customer Loyalty: Focused on the Analysis of Difference between PB and NB (지각된 품질요인이 고객충성도에 미치는 영향: PB와 NB간의 차이분석)

  • Introduction As consumers' purchase behavior change into a rational and practical direction, the discount store industry came to have keen competition along with rapid external growth. Therefore as a solution, distribution businesses are concentrating on developing PB(Private Brand) which can realize differentiation and profitability at the same time. And as improvement in customer loyalty beyond customer satisfaction is effective in surviving in an environment with keen competition, PB is being used as a strategic tool to improve customer loyalty. To improve loyalty among PB users, it is necessary to develop PB by examining properties of a customer group, first of all, quality level perceived by consumers should be met to obtain customer satisfaction and customer trust and consequently induce customer loyalty. To provide results of systematic analysis on relations between antecedents influenced perceived quality and variables affecting customer loyalty, this study proposed a research model based on causal relations verified in prior researches and set 16 hypotheses about relations among 9 theoretical variables. Data was collected from 400 adult customers residing in Seoul and the Metropolitan area and using large scale discount stores, among them, 375 copies were analyzed using SPSS 15.0 and Amos 7.0. The findings of the present study followed as; We ascertained that the higher company reputation, brand reputation, product experience and brand familiarity, the higher perceived quality. The study also examined the higher perceived quality, the higher customer satisfaction, customer trust and customer loyalty. The findings showed that the higher customer satisfaction and customer trust, the higher customer loyalty. As for moderating effects between PB and NB in terms of influences of perceived quality factors on perceived quality, we can ascertain that PB was higher than NB in the influences of company reputation on perceived quality while NB was higher than PB in the influences of brand reputation and brand familiarity on perceived quality. These results of empirical analysis will be useful for those concerned to do marketing activities based on a clearer understanding of antecedents and consecutive factors influenced perceived quality. At last, discussions about academical and managerial implications in these results, we suggested the limitations of this study and the future research directions. Research Model and Hypotheses Test After analyzing if antecedent variables having influence on perceived quality shows any difference between PB and NB in terms of their influences on them, the relation between variables that have influence on customer loyalty was determined as Figure 1. We established 16 hypotheses to test and hypotheses are as follows; H1-1: Perceived price has a positive effect on perceived quality. H1-2: It is expected that PB and NB would have different influence in terms of perceived price on perceived quality. H2-1: Company reputation has a positive effect on perceived quality. H2-2: It is expected that PB and NB would have different influence in terms of company reputation on perceived quality. H3-1: Brand reputation has a positive effect on perceived quality. H3-2: It is expected that PB and NB would have different influence in terms of brand reputation on perceived quality. H4-1: Product experience has a positive effect on perceived quality. H4-2: It is expected that PB and NB would have different influence in terms of product experience on perceived quality. H5-1: Brand familiarity has a positive effect on perceived quality. H5-2: It is expected that PB and NB would have different influence in terms of brand familiarity on perceived quality. H6: Perceived quality has a positive effect on customer satisfaction. H7: Perceived quality has a positive effect on customer trust. H8: Perceived quality has a positive effect on customer loyalty. H9: Customer satisfaction has a positive effect on customer trust.     . Results This study is designed with 16 research hypotheses, Results from analyzing their main effects show that 9 of 11 hypotheses were supported and other 2 hypotheses were rejected. On the other hand, results from analyzing their moderating effects show that 3 of 5 hypotheses were supported and other 2 hypotheses were rejected. H2-1 and H2-2 are supported, so it is proved that company reputation is a significant decision variable having influence on perceived quality and, in terms of influence of company reputation on perceived quality, PB has relatively stronger influence than NB. H5-1 and H5-2 are supported, so it is proved that brand familiarity is a significant decision variable having influence on perceived quality and, in terms of influence of brand familiarity on perceived quality, NB has relatively stronger influence than PB. H6: (SPC=0.91, t-value=19.06, p< .001). H6 is supported, so a fact that customer satisfaction increases as perceived quality increases is proved. H7: (SPC=0.81, t-value=7.44, p<. 001). H7 is supported, so a fact that customer trust increases as perceived quality increases is proved. H8: (SPC=0.57, t-value=7.87, p< .001). H8 is supported, so a fact that customer loyalty increases as perceived quality increases is proved. H9: (SPC=0.08, t-value=0.76, p> .05). H9 is rejected, so it is proved influence of customer satisfaction on customer trust is not significant. H10: (SPC=0.21, t-value=4.34, p< .001). H10 is supported, so a fact that customer loyalty increases as customer satisfaction increases is proved. H11: (SPC=0.40, t-value=5.68, p< .001). H11 is supported, so a fact that customer loyalty increases as customer trust increases is proved. Implications Although most of existing studies have used function, price, brand, design, service, brand name, store name as antecedent variables for perceived quality, this study used different antecedent variables in order to analyze and distinguish purchase group PB and NB through preliminary research. Therefore, this study may be used as preliminary data for a empirical study that is designed to be helpful for practical jobs. Also, this study is made to be easily applied to any practical job because SEM(Structural Equation Modeling), most strongly explaining the relation between observed variable and latent variable, is used for this study. This study suggests a new strategic point that, in order to increase customer loyalty, customer's perceived quality level should satisfied for inducing customer satisfaction, customer trust, and customer loyalty. Therefore, after finding an effective differentiating factors in perceived quality in order to increase customer loyalty through increasing perceived quality, this factor was made to be applied to PB and NB. Because perceived quality factors which is recognized as being important by consumers is different between PB and NB, this study suggests how to efficiently establish marketing strategy by enhancing a factor. Companies have mostly focused on profitability in terms of analyzing customer loyalty, but this study included positive WOM(word of mouth). Hence, this study suggests that it would be helpful for establishing customer loyalty when consumers have cognitive satisfaction and emotional satisfaction together. Limitations This study used variables perceived price, company reputation, brand reputation, product experience, brand familiarity in order to determine whether each constituent factor has different influence on perceived quality between purchase group PB and NB. These characteristic variables are made up on the basis of the preliminary research, but it is expected that more precise research result would be obtained if additional various variables are included in study. This study selected a practical product that is non-durable, low-priced and bestselling product in a discount store through the preliminary research because it can be easily estimated by consumers. Therefore. generalization of study would be more easily obtained if more various product characteristics is included. Regarding a sample used in this study, it was only based on consumers who purchase products in a large-scale discount store located in Seoul and in the capital area. Accordingly, this sample has some geographical limitation, If a study is expanded by including more areas, more representative research results may be produced. Because this study is only designed to analyze consumers who purchase a product in a large-scale discount store, some difference may be found according to characteristics of each business type. In other words, there is certainly some application limitation, so research result from this study may not be applied to other business types. Future research may have fruitful results if it adjusts a variable to each business type.
