  • Even though crowdfunding has become popular as a novel means of raising capital for early-stage ventures and startups through an Internet-based platform, it is unclear how a funder's characteristics, such as motivation and ability, influence their information processing and pledging decision. This study aims to propose and test a research model for determining the relationships between a funder's personal attributes, information processing style, and funding intention. To test the research model, we collected data from 139 Amazon Mechanical Turk participants through an online questionnaire survey. The findings indicate that a funder's self-efficacy has a positive effect on heuristic processing but has no significant effect on systematic processing. By contrast, a funder's personal relevance positively influences both systematic and heuristic processing. Furthermore, heuristic processing, as well as perceived value and perceived risk, influence pledging intentions positively. Our findings potentially contribute to improving the design of crowdfunding platforms to better support a funder's information needs. Based on our findings, we discuss the implications of our study as well as the directions for future research.

  • Purpose: Car seats affect customer satisfaction greatly when the seats' design is changed because car holders are in close contact with the seats. However, the improvement of the current seats' design involves risks such as investment cost, and therefore it needs strategic operating measures from the perspective of customers. Until now, operations of seats' specification have been decided by technical-push rather than market-pull, and carried out based on professionals' experience without measuring customer satisfaction correctly. The purpose of this study is to present a systematic approach to measure customers' perception on the car seats using the Kano model and pairwise comparison technique. Methods: The authors derive 17 major functions of a car seat by analyzing major components of car seats, and conduct a survey of 141 adults who hold a car(s). Results: The results show that consumers perceive the adjustable functions of front seats as must-be while the same functions for rear seats are perceived as attractive. In particular, motor operated functions for both front and rear seats increase customer satisfaction greatly if they are presented. Conclusion: This study shows that how much customer (dis)satisfaction will increase if a function of car seats (non)fulfilled, and therefore, the results of this study will provide practitioners and R&D personnel in new automobile seats development projects with useful information.

  • The perceived intensities of Cheddar cheese flavor were investigated in terms of cheese processing conditions and types of panels participated. The mean intensities of sensory properties for Cheddar cheese were higher in untrained panels compared to those in trained panels. There are significant differences in Cheddar cheese flavor between six-month and eight-month ripening. Cheddar cheese ripening at 1$13^{\circ}C$ resulted in positive effects on sensory attributes compared to ripening at $8^{\circ}C$. The addition of lactobacilli as starter culture caused an increase of sharpness and a decrease of bitterness. Sharpness and bitterness were not related to other cheese sensory properties, and revealed a positive relationship each other. Cheese acidity was negatively related to rancidity and fruitiness.

  • Purpose: While empirical importance of dimensionality of perceived value is widely accepted, our understanding of experiential value dimensions in other retail channels and other cultures has not been explicitly tested. This study attempted to determine if the dimensions of experiential value scale (EVS) by Mathwick, Malhotra, and Rigdon (2001) identified in US catalog and Internet contexts could be applied in other international markets (South Korea) and in other retail channels (department store versus Internet shopping mall). Methodology/Approach: Two data sets, one from 220 department store shoppers and the other from 359 Internet shopping mall shoppers, were analyzed. Findings: Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed four different EVS dimensions by retail channels. Overall, entertainment and intrinsic enjoyment values were found to be more important in department store while economic and efficiency value dimensions were interpreted critical in Internet shopping mall context. Visual appeal aspect constitutes distinct value dimension in two channels. Practical Implications: One separate dimension of time efficiency in Internet shopping mall suggests that more efficient web design and functions that can save time and promote convenience are needed to better accommodate their customers. Internet has heavily relied on traditional attributes, such as factual information, price comparability, and brand name reliance. However, this study suggests that Internet shopping mall retailer should offer visual diversion and stimulation just as brick and mortar shopping malls do. Originality /Value of Paper: Although the research findings must be viewed as tentative because the results are from one country, they provide a rich basis for further understanding the dimensions of experiential value in other international markets and other retail channels. • This study investigated emotional-utilitarian motivation to visit a coffee shop and segmented the market based on motivational factors realizing that coffee is considered as emotional and utilitarian goods in reality. As a result of market segmentation, three groups were identified: emotional consumers, utilitarian consumers, and passive consumers. Choice attributes of visiting a coffee shop according to each group were found to be significantly different. Firstly, emotional consumers highly perceived the importance of the emotional factors such as 'coffee taste and mood', 'special coffee', 'clean space' and also the utilitarian factors such 'price benefit', 'internet access,' etc. Therefore, emotional consumers could be utilitarian one at the same time. On the other hand, utilitarian consumers were highly aware of the importance of 'independent space available for a group meeting', 'degrees of being crowded', and 'facilities such as a bathroom and smoking area.' As for the demographic and the behavioral factors of having coffee, only gender, types of coffee, time and places have a significant relation.
