  • Ultra-thin glass (UTG) has been widely used in foldable display as a cover window for the protection of display and has a great potential for rollable display and various flexible electronics. The foldable display is under impact loading by bending and touch pen and exposed to other external impact loads such as drop while people are using it. These external impact loads can cause cracks or fracture to UTG because it is very thin under 100 ㎛ as well as brittle. Cracking and fracture lead to severe reliability problems for foldable smartphone. Thus, this study constructs finite element analysis (FEA) model for the pen drop test which can measure the impact resistance of UTG and conducts mechanical modeling to improve the reliability of UTG under impact loading. When a protective layer is placed to an upper layer or lower layer of UTG layer, stress mechanism which is applied to the UTG layer by pen drop is analyzed and an optimized structure is suggested for reliability improvement of UTG layer. Furthermore, maximum principal stress values applied at the UTG layer are analyzed according to pen drop height to obtain maximum pen drop height based on the strength of UTG.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to develop new digital navicular drop test (ND-NDT) equipment and to determine its validity and reliability. Methods: A total of 24 healthy male and female adults, who fully understood the purpose of the study and gave consent to participate in the study, were selected as participants. The NDT and ND-NDT were conducted in the dominant foot of the participants in a random order. For the NDT, the position of the navicular bone was marked with a pen first; then, the height of the navicular bone from the ground was measured in both sitting and standing positions. For the ND-NDT, after the sticker-type reflection markers were attached to the position of the navicular bone, the height of the navicular bone from the ground was measured in both sitting and standing positions. To assess the validity of the diagnostic tests, the same examiner measured the height of the medial longitudinal arch (MLA) three times in both the sitting and standing positions. To assess the inter-rater reliability of the ND-NDT, three examiners, in a random order, attached the sticker-type reflection markers to the position of the navicular bone and then measured the height of the MLA in both positions. Results: In the sitting position, the Pearson correlation coefficient (r) between the two diagnostic tests was very high (r = 0.97) and statistically significant. In the standing position, the Pearson correlation coefficient (r) between the two tests was 0.95, which was also statistically significant. The ICC2,1 values in the sitting and standing positions were 0.93 and 0.95, respectively, indicating significantly high inter-rater reliability. Conclusion: The ND-NDT equipment showed very high diagnostic validity, as well as excellent inter-rater reliability, indicating the clinical usefulness of the equipment as a diagnostic system for confirming pes planus.

  • In order to investigate the effects of microstructure Oil film on the welding spatter in Zn electroplated steel, Zn electroplated surface and layer structure with USS-Paddition was observed using XRD, XPS and optical microscopy. Wettability of water drop on the Zn electroplated steel surface was measured using Z.Mei model. Oil absorption test was carried out using Oil pen. Morphology of spot welding and spatter with USS-P addition, applied current, and oil-spray or oil-without was observed using SEM and optical microscopy. Surface morphology of Zn electroplated steel showed finer structure as USS-P content increased. Wettabiliy on the Zn electroplated surface decreased with increasing USS-P content. Size of welding trace increased and spatter occured arround the welding part as applied current increased, whereas spatter disappeared as USS-P content increased and disappeared in case of oil spraying on the Zn electroplated surface.
