The effects of uniaxial drawing conditions on the molecular orientation of poly (ethylene 2,6-naphthalate) (PEN) are investigated. Birefringence measurements show that the orientation is significantly enhanced at high draw ratio, low drawing temperature, and fast drawing speed. The characteristics of orientation examined by FTIR- ATR dichroism method represent almost same results. Amorphous orientation function increases with drawing rate at $120^{\circ}C$, but it decreases with drawing rate at $141^{\circ}C$. These behaviors can be explained with the relation between crystallization and chain relaxation rates. It is observed that the orientation of PEN film is accompanied by significant alignment of the naphthalene rings of PEN parallel to the film surface.
We present a non-photo realistic pen-ink drawing method for outlining and shading of the input image. Especially, we focus on the detailed illustration of the image of which stroke's direction is important. The pen-ink renderer is an alternative display models user can generate traditional illustration renderings of their photo realistic image. The previously proposed pen drawing methods produce feasible description in general image but it is difficult to express in detail for the sophisticated images that need to consider the direction of stroke for each image region. In order to overcome the disadvantages of the conventional method, a direction vector is extracted from a tensor field and we determine a stroke's direction in consideration of not only an edge area but also a gradient of a surrounding area in the image. For more detailed description for the sophisticated image, we generate white noises based on the light and shade of the input image and determine the direction and length of the stroke by using the tensor field for each generated white noise. The proposed method works particularly well for traditional architectural images where the direction and detailed description of the pen is important.
Poly(ethylene 2,6-naphthalate), PEN, is a relatively well-known polymer used for engineering purposes. Naphthalene ring provides rigidity to the polymer backbone, thus, it elevated the glass transition temperature and enhanced mechanical properties. The structure and properties of PEN affect a processing conditions severely, and the high-thermal stability have been had a poor thermal processibility. Hence, the basic mechanism of solvent drawing, is very much the same as that of thermal drawing from glassy state since both involve the inducement of segmental mobility. The former achieves the goal by use of chemical energy, and the latter does so by use of thermal energy. Generally, the sorption of the solvent by the polymer has a plasticizing effect, and leads to a lowering of the glass transition temperature, $T_g$. In this paper, the dynamic viscoelasticity behavior in liquid-drawing process of an unoriented amorphous PEN films were investigated using Rheovibron. The results are as follows : (1) For the drawing in silicone oil, the drawing below $T_g$. had $\alpha{2}$-dispersion due to an inhomogeneous taut structure. (2) For the drawing in water, the inhomogeneous taut structure reduced by the effect of plasticization even below $T_g$. (3) For the drawing in butanol, the only aliphatic segment in PEN have some molecular mobility but the mobility of the aromatic segment having naphthalene ring is nearly impossible. (4) For the drawing in dioxane/water mixing solvent, the solvent effect is complementary each other and accordingly the entire molecular conformation have stable state. (5) For the drawing in dioxane/butanol mixing solvent, the inhomogeneity of the taut structure and the aromatic segment increase with increasing the temperature and this tendencies correspond with that of the draw ratio.
There exist many feature point detection algorithms that developed in pattern recognition research . However, interactive applications for the pen-input displays such as Tablet PCs and LCD tablets have set different goals; reliable segmentation for different drawing styles and real-time on-the-fly fieature point defection. This paper presents a curvature estimation method crucial for segmenting freeHand pen input. It considers only local shape descriptors, thus, peforming a novel curvature estimation on-the-fly while drawing on a pen-input display This has been used for pen marking recognition to build a 3D sketch-based modeling application.

In this paper, we present marker-less fingertip and brush tracking system with inexpensive web camera. Parallel computation using CUDA is applied to the tracking system. This tracking system can run on inexpensive environment such as a laptop or a desktop and support for real-time application. We also present realistic water-based sign pen drawing model and implementation. The realistic drawing application with our inexpensive real-time fingertip and brush tracking system shows us the art class of the future. The realistic drawing application, along with our inexpensive real-time fingertip and brush tracking system, would be utilized in test-bed for the future high-technology education environment.

One of the non-photorealistic rendering method, a drawing technique which uses only fine curves and dashed line, is widely employed in an knots and post stamps printing. Engraving of the curves and lines are traditionally performed by human engravers which leads to low productivity in printing preparation. As an effort to improve productivity and quality, a drawing automation method which can easily produce a portrait composed of vector data for laser or chemical engraving is proposed. The method shows that it is possible to draw a portrait by controling the width and length of predefined fine lines according to the gray scales a the end points of each fine lines. A gradually controled weighting factor method is proposed in addition to the author previous works to prevent undesirable boundaries in an identical texture region. User interface functions of a commercial CAD system are heavily employed to exploit the presented method.

A thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer(TLCP) which has flexible butylene/hexylene spacers in the main chain and a triad aromatic ester type mesogenic unit containing a naphthyl group was prepared by solution polycondensation. The in-situ composites based on poly(ethylene 2,6-naphthalate) (PEN) and a thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer(TLCP) were prepared and melt spun at different TLCP contents and different draw ratios to produce monofilaments. Blends of the TLCP with PEN were investigated in terms of thermal, mechanical properties and morphology. The TLCP synthesized showed nematic mesophasic behavior and its transition temperature to isotropic melt from mesophase was 249℃. The blends showed well dispersed TLCP phases in the PEN matrix without macroscopic phase separation. Inclusion of TLCP in the blends decreased the cold crystallization temperature of PEN in the blend, therefore, the TLCP acts as a nucleating agent in the blend and showed good interfacial adhesion between the dispersed LCP phases and PEN matrix with domain sizes 40~50 nm in diameter and well developed fibrillation in the monofilaments. The TLCP acted effectively as a reinforcing material in the PEN matrix at the 10wt% level, it led to an increase of initial modulus up to 270% and tensile strength by 235%, while the elongation rate increasing with higher draw ratios.

In this paper, a robot arm capable of recognizing and drawing various line thicknesses is developed. Conventional line drawing robots are not capable of adjusting the thickness of lines. However, to draw faster and to enrich the expression of line drawing robots, it is necessary to adjust line thickness using a brush pen. Simple images are acquired and various line thicknesses are recognized by image processing. Trajectories of lines are generated with distance sorting using thinning and corner point detections for each label. Information on line thickness and trajectory is sent to the controller of a robot arm taking into consideration 2D inverse kinematics. Through this process, the robot arm can draw various lines thicknesses along 2D trajectories with 3 motors. Robot arm for detailed drawing will be studied in the future.
In this paper, we present a new algorithm which imitate real pencil strokes. The purpose of research on NPR(Non-Photorealistic Rendering) is simulating automatically manmade artistic expressions such as pen-and-ink illustrations, watercolor paintings, pencil sketches and pastel drawings with computers. Recently, there has been a great deal of research works on NPR. One of them is researching in pencil illustration methods for NPR, and a lot of researchers have investigated into the LIC(Linear Integral Convolution) techniques which would change the initial images into the output images by directional vector field images for generating effects of pencil. However, the LIC techniques can not be applied to real-time drawing tools because they are post processing techniques. This paper presents a real-time pencil strokes algorithm which is based on an observation of how pencils(from 6B to 6H) draw lines. Although this algorithm using some pencil variables and noise generation is simple, it is fast and also can draw real-time pencil strokes similar to real manmade pencil strokes in a GUI drawing tool.
This research, mainly focused on the development of the iPhone exclusive app 'Sketch Plus', is on the production of pens within the smart media. Our goal is to develop and reproduce pens with surreal rendering as a base and during that process, describe the fusing process of design perspectives and algorithms. This research comprehends the concept of surreal rendering, which is a technique that mimics traditional art forms, and suggests 15 pen techniques and ways to display them by analyzing previous research on smart media. We have described the process of using hatching patterns and resused to solve lag problems that occur during the reproduction of pen techniques due to the limitations of smart devices and organized the conversion process of pen patterns into 4 steps: rough sketch, contrast, applying and mimicking patterns, and applying color. We hope that this research on the reproduction of analog pen techniques can be used as an example for production on fused surreal rendering.
