The present study determined the normal reference ranges for overall pelvic limb alignment of small-breed dogs. For this purpose, 60 cadaveric canine pelvic limbs from normal small-breed dogs (Maltese, Poodle, Shih Tzu, Yorkshire Terrier). A frontal full-limb radiograph of each pelvic limb was obtained, and mechanical tibiofemoral angle (mTFA), mechanical metatarsotibial angle (mMTTA), mechanical axis-femur angle (MAFA), and mechanical axis-metatarsus angle (MAMTA) were measured from each radiograph, along with mechanical deviation of the stifle (SMAD) and tarsal joints (TMAD). The 95% CI for radiographic values of all pelvic limbs were mTFA, 5.7-7.4; mMTTA, $-2.2--0.8^{\circ}$; MAFA, $3.5-4.5^{\circ}$; MAMTA, 1.0-2.0; SMAD, 2.1-2.7%; TMAD, 0.5-1.0%. There values varied among the breeds, except for mTFA. The reference ranges can be used for diagnosing pelvic limb deformities in small-breed dogs and for planning corrective osteotomies.
Although there have been various studies related to the body's movement from a sitting to a standing position (sit-to-stand task), there is limited information on the kinematic changes on the frontal and transverse planes. The purpose of this study was to ascertain how pelvic tilt affects kinematic changes in the frontal and transverse planes in the hip and knee joints during a sit-to-stand task. For this study, 33 healthy participants (13 female) were recruited. Each participant rose from a sitting to a standing posture at his or her preferred speed for each of three different pelvic tilt trials (anterior, posterior, and neutral), and the measured angles were analyzed using a 3-D motion analysis system. A one-way repeated measure analysis of variance was performed with Bonferroni's post hoc test. In addition, an independent t-test was carried out to determine the sex differences in hip and knee joint kinematic changes during the sit-to-stand tasks. The results were as follows: 1) The hip and knee joint angle in the frontal and transverse planes showed a significant difference between the different pelvic tilt postures during sitting in the pre-buttock lift-off phase (pre-LO) (p<.05). Compared to the posterior pelvic tilt posture, the anterior pelvic tilt posture involved significantly greater hip joint adduction and internal rotation, knee joint adduction, and reduced internal rotation of the knee joint. 2) Sex differences were found with significant differences for males in the initial and maximal angles in the frontal plane of the hip and knee joint (p<.05). Females had a significantly smaller initial abduction angle of the hip joint and a significantly greater maximal angle of the hip adduction joint. These results suggest that selecting a sit-to-stand exercise for pelvic tilt posture should be considered to control abnormal movement in the lower extremities.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of contralateral hip adduction (CHA) on the muscle activity of lumbar stabilizers and the angle of pelvic lateral tilting during hip abduction in side lying. Twenty healthy male subjects with no medical history of lower extremity or lumbar spine disorders were recruited for the study. Subjects randomly performed preferred hip abduction (PHA) and hip abduction with contralateral hip adduction in side lying. The muscle activities of the dominant side rectus abdominis, external oblique, internal oblique, quadratus lumborum, gluteus medius, and non-dominant side hip adductor longus were measured during PHA and CHA by using a surface electromyography (EMG) system. Pelvic lateral tilting motion was measured by using a three-dimensional motion analysis system. Data on EMG and pelvic motion were collected at the same time during PHA and CHA. A paired t-test was used to compare EMG activity and the angle of pelvic lateral tilting in the two exercises. The study found that the EMG activities of all muscles were more increased significantly in CHA than PHA condition. The angle of pelvic lateral tilting was more decreased significantly in CHA than PHA condition. These findings suggest that CHA could be recommended as a hip abduction exercise for activating lumbar stabilizers and decreasing compensatory pelvic lateral tilting motion.

Objective : Spondylothesis is a disease which sagittal facet of vertebral body's invariable alignment is being broken and vertebral body being pushed forward. Main pattern of spondylothesis is isthmic spondylothesis by isthmus defect or fracture, degenerative spondylothesis occurred by desiccated change of intervertebral disc or vertebral condyle joint's ligament. The purpose of this study is to assess the difference of the Pelvic angles, Lumbosacral angles, Pelvic tilt, and Lumbar lordotic angles of the spondylothesis patients. Methods : We analyzed the lateral view of lumbar spine of 49 isthmic spondylothesis patients, 45 degenerative spondylothesis patients and 26 patients who haven't been diagnosed as vertebra disease. We investigated each patient's pelvic angle, lumbosacral angle, pelvic tilt and lumbar lordotic angle. Results and Conclusion : 1. Pelvic incidence, in cases of degenerate spondylothesis patients, is higher than spondylothesis patients but shows less significance. On the contrary significance is higher than the group haven't been diagnosed as vertebra disease. 2. Lumbosacral incidence, in cases of isthmic spondylothesis patients, shows higher significance than degenerative spondylothesis patients and the group haven't been diagnosed as vertebra disease. 3 Pelvic tilt, in cases of degenerative spondylothesis patients, shows higher significance than isthmic spondylothesis patients and the group haven't been diagnosed as vertebra disease. 4. Lumbar lordotic angle, in cases of isthmic spondylothesis patients, shows higher significance than degenerative spondylothesis patients and the group haven't been diagnosed as vertebra disease. 5. Degenerative spondylothesis patient shows specific impression, a forwardly moved high femoral axial and as a result of large lumbrosacral angle and lumbar lordotic angle shows specific impression, an increased weight pressure on sacrum.
Objectives This study analyzed the correlation between lumbar spine and pelvic body parameters measured using body shape analysis system and X-ray view. Methods Body shape analysis system and X-ray view were performed for 100 patients to diagnose subluxation using body parameters such as pelvic obliquity angle, anterior superior iliac spine to posterior superior iliac spine angle (ASIS-PSIS angle), lumbar lateral flexion angle. The correlation analysis using body parameters obtained through the body shape analysis system and X-ray view was performed by measuring the Pearson correlation coefficient, a parameter test. Results Significant correlations were observed between the values for pelvic obliquity angle, ASIS-PSIS angle, lumbar lateral flexion angle measured by X-ray view and body shape analysis system. The most significant correlation was observed in the value of pelvic obliquity angle. Conclusions Body parameters and posture analysis measured by the body shape analysis system can be used in place of X-ray view. Additional research and samples are still necessary.
Asymmetric sitting posture may cause asymmetric buttock pressure and unilateral low back pain (LBP). The purpose of this study was to compare the differences of buttock pressure between both sides, and pelvic angle (sagittal and coronal planes) during typing in a sitting position on a pressure mat (Baltube) in individuals with and without unilateral LBP. Ten subjects with unilateral LBP and ten subjects without unilateral LBP were recruited for this study. Buttock pressure was measured using a pressure mat and pelvic angles were measured using a palpation meter. The subjects performed typing in a sitting posture for 30 minutes. Pressure data were collected and averaged at initial term (from start to first minutes) and final term (last minutes of 30 minutes). Angles of pelvic tilting were measured after 30 minutes typing. Pressure asymmetry values (difference in pressure between both sides) were calculated at the initial and final terms. A two-way analysis of variance was used to compare the differences between the initial and final pressure asymmetry values in subjects with and without unilateral LBP. An independent t-test was applied to compare the pelvic tilt angles between the two groups. To compare the change of pressure from the initial term to the final term between the symptomatic and asymptomatic sides in the unilateral LBP group, a paired t-test was applied. In the unilateral LBP group, the pressure asymmetric value at the final term was significantly greater than that of the initial term (p<.05). The angle of pelvic tilting in coronal plane was significantly greater in the unilateral back pain group compared to the without unilateral LBP group (p<.05), however, there was no significant difference in the angle of pelvic tilting in the sagittal plane between the two groups (p>.05). In the unilateral LBP group, the change of pressure from the initial term to the final term was significantly less in the symptomatic side (-6.90 mmHg) than the asymptomatic side (5.10 mmHg). This asymmetric sitting posture may contribute to unilateral LBP in the sitting position. Further studies are needed to determine if asymmetric weight bearing in sitting causes unilateral LBP or if unilateral back pain causes asymmetric weight bearing, and if the correction of asymmetric weight bearing in sitting can reduce unilateral LBP.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of Chuna and taping treatment in patients with genu varum. Methods : Twenty-seven patients(male:10, female:17) with genu varum were recruited in this study. Chuna treatment at pelvic, and taping treatment at both legs were applied to whole participants. Outcomes were assessed using Q-angle(Quadriceps angle, QA), tibiofemoral angle(TFA), width and length of lesser trochanter(LT), pelvic incidence(PI), pelvic(PT), sacral slope(SS), lumber lordosis angle(LLA), meridian-electromyography(MEMG), Korean western ontario and McMaster universities osteoarthritis index(KWOMAC), and distance of femoral intercondylar distance(ICD). Results : 1. QA, LT width and LT length in radiograph were significantly increased. 2. PI, SS, PT and TFA in radiograph were significantly decreased. 3. The left vastus medialis portion contraction of female was significantly decreased after treatment. 4. The left rectus femoris portion fatigue was significantly decreased after treatment in male subjects. 5. The vastus medialis portion fatigue was significantly decreased after treatment in female subjects. 6. The distance of femoral ICD was significantly decreased. Conclusions : This study showed that Chuna and taping treatment could be used as an effective method for the treatment of genu varum.
Objectives : The biomechanical relationship of leg length discrepancy(LLD), Lumbar lordosis, pelvic variance and degenerative scoliosis is one of the most important parameters when treat musculoskeletal disorders, however the reports are still controversial. The purpose of this study was to compare the relationships between the parameters and bothersomeness in subject with chronic ow back pain. Methods : Sixty female and eight male adults with non specific low back pain over 3 months were recruited. LLD was measured by tape measure method. Lumbar lordosis, lumbosacral angle and related pelvic parameters were measured using simple radiologic films of lumbosacral view. Results : Lumbar lordosis was significantly correlated to the lumbosacral angle, pelvic incidence and difference of the both iliac widths. Pelvic incidence had significant correlation with difference of the both iliac widths. And difference of both iliac widths was related with LLD by radiologic film. There was also significant correlation between the LLD by radiologic film and tape measurement. Visual analogue scale(chronic low back pain) of normal lordosis group was greater than hyperlordosis group. Conclusions : There were close biomechanical relationships between lumbar, pelvis, and lower extremity. But in order to determine the effect of structure on the chronic low back pain, global balance of musculoskeletal structure seems to be worth further researching.

This study was to compare the effects of joint mobilization, treadmill with insole, and joint mobilization and treadmill with insole on pain, pelvic angle, and foot pressure in patients with sacroiliac joint pain. 24 patients randomly assigned to joint mobilization group(n=8), treadmill with insole group(n=8), or joint mobilization and treadmill with insole group(n=8). Each groups were conducted 30 minutes a day, two days a week for four weeks. Pain was evaluated using visual analogue scale and pelvic angle was measured using palpation meter and foot pressure(fore/rear ratio) was measured using Gateview AFA-50 before intervention and after 4 weeks. All groups were significant differences pain in intragroup(p<.01). In pelvic angle, the joint mobilization group was statistically significant in the anterior tilt only, the joint mobilization and treadmill with insole group showed statistically significant improvement in both anterior and posterior tilt(p<.01), and the treadmill with insole group did not show any statistically significant change(p>.05). Also the joint mobilization and treadmill with insole group were significant differences in foot pressure(p<.01). All the interventions reduce sacroiliac joint pain and joint mobilization and treadmill with insole training are most effective changes in pelvic angle and foot pressure. This study can be used as a basic data for prevention of injury, posture correction and gait training in patients with sacroiliac joint pain, as well as chronic low back pain and plantar pressure problem.
Purpose: Continuous use of a smartphone increases the angle of forward bending of the user's cervical vertebrae, causing pain in the shoulders and back, including the thorax, lumbar region, and vertebrae. Although there are many studies on changes in the cervical spine due to smartphone usage, the changes in the shoulders, thoracolumbar spine, and pelvic have rarely been compared. The purpose of this study is to investigate the change in the spinal segments, shoulders, and pelvic when using a smartphone with both hands while in the standing position. Methods: This study was conducted on 35 adults in their twenties. The selection criteria for the subjects were limited to those in a similar age group, thus excluding posture differences according to age, and to those who did not have specific diseases or pain in the spinal and musculoskeletal system for 12 months prior to the study. In this study, we used a 3D spinal diagnostic imaging system (Back Mapper, Frickenhausen) to compare the changing conditions in each vertebral segment before and during smartphone usage with both hands while in the standing position. Posture differences according to smartphone usage were compared using the paired t-test for the motion of each spinal segment. Results: This study showed that the thoracic and lumbar angle increased posteriorly during smartphone usage (p<0.05). In addition, the anterior rotation angle of the shoulder bone significantly increased, but no significant difference occurred in the pelvic region. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, smartphone usage with both hands while in the standing position showed that the spine, as a whole, forms a kyphotic curve. Therefore, we propose to present a postural guideline for correct smartphone usage, considering the change in each vertebral segment.
