  • Purpose: This study was done to investigate the relationship between self esteem, stress, depression and school adjustment among adolescents who were victims of bullying and those who were not. Methods: The questionnaire included the Peer Victimization Scale (Callaghan & Joseph, 1995), Self-esteem Scale, (Rosenberg, 1965), Daily Hassles Questionnaire (Feiner, Ginter & Primavera, 1982) and Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression (Radloff, 1977). Data from 738 questionnaires were analyzed using frequencies, means, ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test and logistic regression analysis with SPSS 14.0. Results: Victims of bullying accounted for 19.8% of the students. Significant differences were found for grade, school record, family living together, satisfaction with parents and satisfaction with friends between students who were victims of bullying and those who were not. Self esteem and school adjustment for the victims of bullying were lower than for those in the non-victim group, and stress and depression were higher. The logistic regression analysis revealed that school record, family living together, satisfaction with friends, self esteem, friend related stress, family related stress and depression were significantly associated with being a victim of bullying. Conclusion: The result of this study offer basic data for the development of intervention programs to prevent students becoming victims of bullying.

  • The high degree of academic burnout experienced during academic life indicates that job skill levels during the first year following graduation are low, and the correlation with turnover intention is high. We investigated the effects of clinical practice stress and resilience on nursing students' burnout, and searched for factors that can prevent or control burnout. We recruited a convenience sample of 202 nursing students. Academic burnout, general characteristics, clinical practice stress, and resilience were assessed via self-reported questionnaires. The mean total score of academic burnout was 44.0 points; exhaustion was the highest at 18.5 points, inefficacy was 15.9 points, and cynicism was 9.6 points. High levels of clinical practice stress affected academic burnout (β=0.194, p=0.003), while high resilience was a factor that lowered the degree of academic burnout (β=-0.449, p<0.001). Based on our results, factors affecting students' experiences of academic burnout were clinical practice stress and resilience. We therefore propose the implementation of a new curriculum aimed at increasing satisfaction with the major, reducing clinical practice stress, and increasing resilience, including an efficient peer mentoring program for clinical practice.

On this point, this study aims to examine employee's work-related stress and its relationship with work ability. Research design, data and methodology: This study focused on obtaining mostly peer-reviewed works to suggest research findings, assuming that qualitative literature approach allows researchers to explore in-depth information concerning complex issues in a standard life setting. Numerous prior researchers applied their research design in content analysis, especially where various concepts are present for analysis. Results: Based on numerous qualitative textual resources, this study found that human resource practitioners should plan stress management strategies for their employees to apply five kinds of solutions that the current study suggests because it is vital to ensure their wellbeing towards sustaining their performance. Conclusions: All in all, based on the findings, this study concludes that employee's work stress negatively impacts their work ability with affecting their mental health. • This study was designed to investigate the relation between stress coping behavior and social adjustments in late childhood. Total 657 teenagers (238 ten-year-olds, 230 twelve-year-olds, and 189 fourteen-year-olds) and their parents living in Inchon area participated in the study. Each child was evaluated whether they cope either (a) defensively or (b) actively in several stressful domains by completing the Stress Coping Hating Scales (Korean). Their social adjustments were measured in areas like peer relationship, family relationship, and conformity with Social Adjustment Scales (Korean). The final examination scores were used to rate children’s Academic Achievements. Finally Korean version of Achenbach’s Child Behavior Check List were completed by parents. As results, girls were found to use more defensive strategies to cope stress, showed more conformity and withdrawn behaviors and achieved higher scores academically than boys. Generally younger children tended to adjust better socially than older children. As children grew older they used more and more defensive strategies to cope with everyday stress. Also older children showed more withdrawn behavior and aggressive behavior than younger children. As anticipated children who used more defensive coping strategies were reported to have more behavior problems, showed poorer social adjustments and academic achievements. Children who used more active coping strategies, on the other hands, were reported to haute less behavior problems, adjusted better socially and had better academia achievements. Finally children who adjusted better socially and had high academic achievements were reported to have less behavior problems.

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate (1) the relations between infant-mother attachment and maternal sensitivity, maltreatment, stress, and childhood experience, and (2) relations between infant-mother attachment and infant temperament. The subjects of the study were 55 14 to 20 month-old infants (27 boys and 28 girls) and their mothers in Seoul. In order to assess the patterns of infant-mother attachment, each infant-mother dyad was videotaped in the modified Ainsworth's Strange Situation. Each dyad was filmed for 3 minutes in the Questionnaire Situation of Smith and Pederson(Smith, & Pederson, 1988) to assess maternal sensitivity responding to infant's cues. Each mother also was interviewed by using a semi-structured questionnaire made by author to measure maternal maltreatment. Each mother was asked to complete three Likert-type questionnaires, containing Parenting Stress Index (PSI) (Abidin, 1990) to measure the maternal stress, Mother-Father Peer Scale (MFPS) (Epstein, 1983) to measure childhood experience, and Emotionality, Activity, Sociality (EAS) (Buss, & Plomin, 1984) to measure infant's temperament. The statistical procedures used for data analyses were correlation, one-way ANOVA, multiple regression, and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ coefficient. The results showed that (1) mothers of insecure-avoidant infants maltreated their infants more than mothers of secure infants, and (2) in the multiple regression analysis, maternal maltreatment was predicted by maternal education, maternal stress (parent domain), and maternal childhood experience in relation to her own mother (acceptance vs. rejection).
