  • An orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) system has the problem of peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) due to the overlapping phenomena of many sub-carriers. In order to improve the performance of PAPR, we propose in this paper a new genetic sub-block phase weighting(GA-SPW) using the SPW technique. Not only the selecting mapping(SLM) and the partial sequence(PTS) but also the previously proposed SPW becomes more effective as the number of sub-blocks and phase elements increases. However, all of them have limitation on the number of sub-blocks since the searching repetition increases exponentially as the number of sub-blocks increases. Therefore, in this research, a new GA SPW is proposed to reduce the amount of calculation by using Genetic algorithm(GA). In the proposed method, the number of calculations involved in the iterative phase searching yields to depend on the number of population and generation not on the number of sub-blocks and phase elements. The superiority of the proposed method is presented in the experimental results and analysis.

  • OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is a special case of multicarrier transmission, where a single data stream is transmitted over a number of lower-rate subcarrier. One of the main reasons to use OFDM is to increase robustness against frequency-selective fading or narrowband interference. Unfortunately, an OFDM signal consists of a number of independently modulated subcarriers, which can give a large PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) when added up coherently. In this paper, we investigate the performance of a simple PAPR reduction scheme, which requires no change of a receiver structure or no additional information transmission. The approach we employed is clipping in the time and frequency domains. The time-domain clipping is carried out with a predetermined clipping level while the frequency-domain clipping is done within EVM (Error Vector Magnitude). This approach is suboptimal with lower computational complexity compared to the optimal method. This evaluation is carried out on the OFDM system with an nonlinear amplifier. The simulation results demonstrated that the PAPR reduction algorithm is one of ways to reduce the effects of the nonlinear distortion of an HPA (High Power Amplifier).

  • In this paper, in order to enhance the performance improvements of both BER and PAPR characteristic for the conventional OFDM system, both circularly polarized waves and carrier interferometry signals which shows the robustic fading reduction effect are applied to the system, and then the performance of the proposed system has been evaluated by computer simulation. From the analysis, it can be seen that the system BER performance can be improved by 2 or 3 dB. Furthermore, it can be also seen that the PAPR characteristic can be markedly reduced.

  • The systems for mobile communication services of fourth generation use OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) scheme that ran transmit large amounts of data to support the multimedia services, and consist of several types of cell, such as Macro Cell, Pico Cell, Femto Cell to improve the qualify of service. According to subdivision of communication region, superposition of cells in co-channel different from conventional single cell is used, but it cause inter band interference between systems. In particular, an OFDM signal consists of a number of independently modulated subcarriers, and superposition of these subcarriers causes a problem that ran give a large PAPR. Increased PAPR induces signal distortion passing through components such as power amplifier so that inter band interference is caused by out-of-band spectrum radiation. In order to minimize the inter band interference, this paper applies PAPR reduction scheme and analyzes the out-of-band spectrum radiation when the signal passes through nonlinear components such an power amplifier.

  • The high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system introduces inevitable non-linear distortion in the transmission due to the amplifier non-linear property. This causes both in-band distortion and out of band spectrum re-growth. In this paper we tried to compensate the problem by using polynomial based pre-distortion. Estimation of both the non-linear and inverse non-linear polynomial is achieved using the Least Square Error (LSE) method. Using these parameters closed form pre-distorter can be easily created. We also used the 'partial peak cancellation and clipping' method to remove the high peak present in the non constant amplitude of the OFDM signal responsible to drive the amplifier in near saturation region for better performance of the system

  • In this paper, we propose an improved block coding scheme for PAPR reduction in the OFDM communication system. Unlike the conventional block coding scheme which uses one block encoder of subcarrier N, two block encoders of subcarrier N/2 is used for the proposed block coding scheme. This not only improves the coding gain, but enhances the spectral efficiency by twice due to the increment of code rate. PAPR Reduction performance is the same as the conventional block coding. When BER is $10^{-4}$, the proposed block coding scheme has coding gain of 0.5 dB than the conventional scheme.

  • This paper addresses the problem of controlling the envelope's power peak of single carrier modulated signals, band limited by root-raised cosine (RRC) pulse shaping filters, in order to reduce power amplifier back-off for very small aperture terminals ground stations. Magnitude modulation (MM) is presented as a very efficient solution to the peak-to-average power ratio problem. This paper gives a detailed description of the MM concept and its recent evolutions. It starts by extending the look-up-table (LUT) based approach of the MM concept to M-ary constellations with M ${\leq}$ 16. The constellation and RRC symmetries are explored, allowing considerable reduction on LUT computation complexity and storage requirements. An effective multistage polyphase (MPMM) approach for the MM concept is then proposed. As opposed to traditional LUT-MM solutions, MM coefficients are computed in real-time by a low complexity multirate filter system. The back-off from high-power amplifier saturation is almost eliminated (reduction is greater than 95%) with just a 2-stage MPMM system even for very demanding roll-off cases (e.g., ${\alpha}$ = 0,1). Also, the MPMM is independent of modulation in use, allowing its easy application to constellations with M > 16.

  • OFDM communications system is very attractive for the high data rate wireless transmission. However, it may be distorted in the nonlinear HPA since OFDM signal has high PAPR. So, a new SLM method using dummy sequence is studied for reducing the PAPR, and we call it DSI-SLM method. Unlike the conventional SLM method using the phase rotation, dummy sequences for PAPR reduction are assigned at the predefined sub-carriers. After IFFT, the OFDM data signal of the lowest PAPR is selected to transmit. So, it can cut down the computational complexity because it does not require the transmission and demodulation process of side information about the phase rotation. This proposed method can solve the time delay problem so that PAPR reduction can be made in real time processing.

  • Recently, Mc(Multi-code) modulation/demodulation(modem) technique has been explored for high speed data transmission in wireless environment. The conventional Mc modem generates some side effects such as allocating Walsh codes, which motivates to propose a novel Mc modem method with sub-code. Our proposed system should expanded the size of sub-code to provide high-rate data transmission, which also affect adversely to the performance of the system with high PAPR(Peak to Average Power Ratio). Thus, in this paper, we propose a novel pre-coded Multi-Dimensional HCOC(High Capacity Orthogonal Code) Mc modem technique to reduce the high PAPR, which enables the performance improvement. This proposed system can be easily designed by concatenating HCOC Mc modem with the generic Mc modem. The pre-coding technique that is used in this paper is CAC(Constant Amplitude Coding), that helps the system maintain the constant transmission power and reduce the maximum transmission power.

  • One of the maindisadvantages of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is the Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) problem. To reduce PAPR and improve the error performance of the OFDM signal over a fading channel, an OFDM system combining an Adaptive Symbol Selection Scheme (ASSS) and channel estimation can be used. Because of the side information of ASSS, however, the data rate decreases in the conventional ASSS OFDM system. In this letter, to overcome this impairment, we propose a technique to transmit side information by using pilot tones, and demonstrate that the proposed technique can give reasonable bit error rate (BER) performance.
