Several studies have focused on multimedia transmission over wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In this paper, we propose a comprehensive and robust model to transmit images over cognitive radio WSNs (CRWSNs). We estimate the spectrum sensing frequency and evaluate its impact on the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). To enhance the PSNR, we attempt to maximize the number of pixels delivered to the receiver. To increase the probability of successful image transmission within the maximum allowed time, we minimize the average number of packets remaining in the send buffer. We use both single- and multi-channel transmissions by focusing on critical transmission events, namely hand-off (HO), No-HO, and timeout events. We deploy our advanced updating method, the dynamic parameter updating procedure, to guarantee the dynamic adaptation of model parameters to the events. In addition, we introduce our ranking method, named minimum remaining packet best channel selection, to enable us to rank and select the best channel to improve the system performance. Finally, we show the capability of our proposed image scrambling and filtering approach to achieve noticeable PSNR improvement.

To improve the quality of magnified image, two schemes were proposed. The one is used to estimate simple convex surface and simple concave surface using the information of adjacent pixel values, and the other scheme is used to produce magnified image using the characteristics of simple convex surface and simple concave surface. The magnified image using the proposed scheme is more similar to real image than the magnified image using the previous schemes. The PSNR values of the magnified images using the proposed scheme are greater than those of the magnified images using the previous interpolation schemes.
Many image edge details are easily lost in the image denoising process, and the smooth image regions are prone to produce jagged. In this paper, we propose a wavelet-based image global k- singular value decomposition variational method to remove image noise. A layer of wavelet decomposition is applied to the noisy image first. Then, the image global k-singular value decomposition (IGK-SVD) method is used to remove the random noise of low-frequency components. Furthermore, a constructed variational denoising method (VDM) removes the random noise in the high-frequency component. Finally, the denoised image is obtained by wavelet reconstruction. The experimental results show that the proposed method's peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) value is higher than other methods, and its structural similarity (SSIM) value is closer to one, indicating that the proposed method can effectively suppress image noise while retaining more image edge details. The denoised image has better denoising effects.

The need for video diagnosis in medicine has been increased and real-time transfer of digital video will be an important component in PACS and telemedicine. But, Network environment has certain limitations that the required throughput can not satisfy quality of service (QoS). MPEG-4 ratified as a moving video standard by the ISO/IEC provides very efficient video coding covering the various ranges of low bit-rate in network environment. We implemented MPEG-4 CODEC (coder/decoder) and applied various compression ratios to moving ultrasound images. These images were displayed in random order on a client monitor passed through network. Radiologists determined subjective opinion scores for evaluating clinically acceptable image quality and then these were statistically processed in the t-Test method. Moreover the MPEG-4 decoded images were quantitatively analyzed by computing peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) to objectively evaluate image quality. The bit-rate to maintain clinically acceptable image quality was up to 0.8Mbps. We successfully implemented the adaptive throughput or bit-rate relative to the image quality of ultrasound sequences used MPEG-4 that can be applied for diagnostic performance in real-time.

In this paper, we propose a new, effective, fast motion estimation algorithms using $4{\times}4$ pixels Hadamard transform. The Hadamard transform has the advantage of simplicity because it uses only addition and subtraction. Motion estimation is composed of three stages. First, it should be decided whether to terminate the search early and use a previous motion vector with DC(Direct Current) coefficients. Then the adaptive matching scan order for motion estimation should be determined according to the image complexity using AC(Alternating Current) coefficients. Experimentally, we adapted this algorithms to MVFAST and PMVFAST algorithms, and the proposed algorithms turn out to be very efficient in terms of computational speed while remaining almost the same in terms of PSNR(Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) compared to MVFAST and PMVFAST algorithms.
A new technology on video frame rate up-conversion (FRUC) is presented by combining the median filter and motion estimation (ME) with an occlusion detection (OD) method. First, ME is performed to have a motion vector. Then, the OD method is used to refine motion vector in the occlusion region. Since the wrong motion vector can be obtained with high possibility in the occluded area, a median filtering that less depends on the motion vector is applied to that area, and since the motion vector is continuous and robust in the non-occluded area, BDMC(Bi-Directional Motion Compensated interpolation) is applied to obtain interpolated image in that area. BDMC using the bi-directional motion vectors achieves good results when continuity and robustness of the motion vector is higher. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm provides better performance than the conventional approach. The average gain of PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) is approximately 0.16 dB in the test sequences compared with BDMC.

In this paper, a depth estimate method is proposed using GPU(Graphics Processing Unit) in monocular image. a monocular image is a 2D image with missing 3D depth information due to the camera projection and we used a monocular cue to recover the lost depth information by the projection present. The proposed algorithm uses an energy function which takes a variety of cues to create a more generalized and reliable depth map. But, a processing time is late because energy function is defined from the various monocular cues. Therefore, we propose a depth estimate method using GPGPU(General Purpose Graphics Processing Unit). The objective effectiveness of the algorithm is shown using PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio), a processing time is decrease by 61.22%.

Image interpolation has been widely used and studied in the various fields of image processing. There are many approaches of varying complexity and robustness. In this paper, a new distance weight is proposed for the conventional linear interpolation. In comparison with the conventional linear weight, the new distance weight uses a quadratic or cubic polynomial equation to reflect that the interpolated value should be influenced more by the value of closer pixels in an input image. In this paper, the new adaptive linear (NAL) interpolation, which considers patterns near the interpolated value, is also proposed. This algorithm requires a pattern weight, which is used to determine the ratio of reflection on local patterns, to obtain an interpolated image that exhibits better quality at various magnification factors (MF). In the computer simulation, not only did the NAL interpolation exhibit much lower computational complexity than conventional bicubic interpolation, it also improved peak signal-to-noise ratios (PSNR).
Many fast block-matching algorithms (BMAs) in motion estimation field reduce computational complexity by screening the number of checking points. Although many fast BMAs reduce computations, sometimes they should endure matching errors in comparison with full-search algorithm (FSA). In this paper, a novel fast BMA for constrained one-bit transform (C1BT)-based motion estimation is proposed in order to decrease the calculations of the block distortion measure. Unlike the classical fast BMAs, the proposed algorithm shows a new approach to reduce computations. It utilizes the binomial distribution based on the characteristic of binary plane which is composed of only two elements: 0 and 1. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm keeps its peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) performance very close to the FSA-C1BT while the computation complexity is reduced considerably.

In stereo-view system, variations of target camera position or lighting conditions cause discrepancies on the luminance and chrominance components of stereo views. These discrepancies lead to inaccurate frame view prediction and low quality of 3 D video coding. In this paper, an efficient histogram interval calibration method is proposed for stereo-view coding, so as to compensate for the luminance component of target view. First the proposed method is analyzed by the histogram of the target image frame. Then, it divide two sections of histogram of that frame to correct the color discrepancies. Secondly, each section of the target frame is corrected the luminance component by identify the maximum matching region between the reference frame and the target frame. We have verified our proposed histogram matching method in comparison with the other color correction ones. Experimental results show that it can correct better luminance calibration results of PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) and has less computation time.
