Simultaneous N-P Removal of Wastewater with Flow Variation by Anaerobic-Aerobic Activated Sludge Process(I) (혐기-호기 활성슬러지법에 의한 유량변동이 있는 폐수의 N-P 동시 제거에 관한 연구(I))

  • The treatment performances of anaerobic-aerobic activated sludge process were investigated under various operation conditions. The treatment system proposed in this study gave a relatively stable performance against hourly change of the flow rate and showed a satisfactory removal of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds under experimental conditions. The recycle ratio of mixed liquor from aerobic to anaerobic region and peak coefficient primarily controlled the extent of nitrogen removal. The recycle ratio had the optimum values which were determined by the microbial activities of nitrification and denitrification. The behavior of the treatment unit could be simulated by using the kinetic equations and reactor models which considered the treatment units as complete mixing tanks.

  • We have proposed and fabricated a Buck-Boost DC to DC Converter for Thermoelectric generator (TEG) with constant output voltage suitable for battery chargers or constant voltage supplies in the range of several watt. The experimental and simulation results have shown that the proposed method allows stable operation with maximum 86% power transfer efficiency. The proposed circuit has a merit in cost and miniaturization of a system compared to conventional MPPT algorithms, because the proposed method adopts only analog circuit without DSP or micro controller unit for calculating peak power point by iterative methods.

  • The conventional CCPU(Cable Covering Protective Unit) modeling methods which are used by Type 99 and Type 92 in EMTP simulation are firstly discussed in this paper, and then some problems of them are also investigated. Modeling method using Type 99 causes unstable characteristic at initial transient of CCPU operation. Time delay has also effect on the output of CCPU modeling. So, in this paper, a new modeling method for CCPU is designed by DBM(Data Base Module) of EMTP. The characteristic of Type 92 is used for the new modeling method. The reliability of this one is proved by comparing simulation with measured data. Specially, at initial transient, the waveform of the new method shows more stable result than that of conventional method using Type 99. Also, the peak value is similar to measured data.

  • This paper presents a overall study results for the Korea power system at yearly peak load time in 2008 summer period. The power system become more complex due to the gradual increase of power demand. We analyze the problems in power system operation, by the use of PSS/E(power flow, fault and transient stability study) and VSAT for voltage stability. The results of establishment of power system operating plan and countermeasure are described.

  • Accurate and robust load forecasting model plays very important role in power system operation. In case of short-term electric load forecasting, its results offer standard to decide a price of electricity and also can be used shaving peak. For this reason, various models have been developed to improve accuracy of load forecasting. This paper proposes a newly forecasting model for weather sensitive season including temperature and Cooling Degree Hour(C.D.H) data as an input. This Forecasting model consists of previous electric load and preprocessed temperature, constant, parameter. It optimizes load forecasting model to fit actual load by PSO and results are compared to Holt-Winters and Artificial Neural Network. Proposing method shows better performance than comparison groups.

Risk Monitor Development for On-Line Maintenance (가동중 정비를 위한 Risk Monitor 개발)

  • Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) developed a risk monitor called Risk Monster which supports for plant operators and maintenance schedulers to monitor plant risk and to avoid high peak risk by rearranging maintenance work schedule. Risk Monster can update the plant risk continuously according to the change of system/component configuration since Risk Monster reevaluates the plant risk based on the Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) results. A brief description of Risk Monster is provided. The PSA model of UCN 3, 4 nuclear power plant was converted by KAERI to Risk Monster model. Using this Risk Monster model, a feasibility study of the on-line maintenance of an Essential Service Water (ESW) pump was performed. On-line maintenance of one ESW pump has been shown to be acceptably safe, and has economic benefits. In addition, it is not a violation of technical specification to continue plant operation with an out-of-service ESW pump.

  • A multi-resonance antenna for wireless communications is reported. By using double inverted-L strips, the antenna demonstrated compact size (15 mm ${\times}$ 14 mm) including the ground, multi-band operation for IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/p applications, and wide bandwidth of 1.7 GHz at 5 GHz band. Good radiation features of omni-directional patterns and 1.98 and 2.29 dBi peak antenna gains for the lower and upper bands, respectively, have been achieved.

  • A soft-switching three-level chopper-inverter system was built for high-power applications like Power Conditioning System (PCS) for Superconductive Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES). The system can handle 1800-VDC, 200-A peak, and 250-kW output power. The system was designed to operate with 20-KHz PWM operation with the aid of state-of-the-art zero-current transition type soft-switching. The system is based on the Power Electronics Building Block (PEBB) concept.

  • This paper presents a maximum power point tracking algorithm for Photovoltaic array using only instantaneous output current information. The conventional Hill climbing method of peak power tracking has a disadvantage of oscillations about the maximum power point. To overcome this problem, we have developed an algorithm that will estimate the duty ratio corresponding to maximum power operation of solar cell. The estimation of the optimal duty ratio involves, finding the duty ratio at which integral value of output current is maximum. For the estimation, we have used the well know Lagrange's interpolation method. This method can track maximum power point quickly even for changing solar isolation and avoids oscillations after reaching the maximum power point.
