Effect of Topical Hypothermia on Myocardial Protection from Ischemia - Experimental study using isolated rat heart perfusion technique- (흰쥐의 적출된 작업성 심장에서 허혈성 심정지시 국소냉각법이 심근보호에 미치는 영향)

  • Currently numerous methods are in use for myocardial hypothermia as a myocardial preservation modality for cardiac operation. During cardiac ischemia after crystalloid cardioplegia[4C GIK solution], topical cold saline[Group I, a=9], topical ice slush[Group II, n=9] and topical ice chip[Group III, a=10] have been compared for myocardial surface cooling in the isolated rat heart model of cardiopulmonary bypass. During postischemic period, hemodynamic functions[aortic flow, coronary flow, peak aortic pressure and heart rate], biochemical enzymatic activities and cellular injuries with electron microscope were evaluated in this isolated rat heart perfusion model. Postischemic aortic flow, cardiac output and peak aortic pressure in Group I and Group II recovered better than Group III.[p< 0.05] Postischemic creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase leakages in Group II and Group III increased more than Group l and postischemic mitochondrial swelling in Group III was more severe than Group I, and Group II.[p< 0.05] These results suggest that topical cold saline was the better method than topical ice slush or topical ice chip as a myocardial preservation modality in the isolated rat heart model of cardiopulmonary bypass.

친환경 교통수단으로서 KTX의 역할과 기대

  • Green gas emissions Trading System(ETS) came into effect in the Europe last year 2005. All transport modes have tried to reduce green gas emission and EU member countries are promoting the use of environmental friendly transport mode to avoid economic loss due to green gas emission. Besides ETS, rapidly rising of oil price and peak oil urge to invest more in the environmental friendly public transport mode and to discourage the use of private cars. The operation of KTX is estimated to bring external cost reduction up to 570 bil. won in 2004 based on European external unit costs of transport modes. This result implies that the expansion of high speed rail network and reconsideration of East-West high speed rail network which is not considered because of weak economic validity is required.

  • Alnine pellets were installed in a nuclear power plant for one or two operation cycles and measured by electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrometers for dosimetry. Dose and "x/y ratio", i.e., satellite peak over main center peak ratio, were measured for the returned alanine dosimeters from the nuclear power plant and compared to the values of reference alanine dosimeters exposed only to gamma rays. The variation of the x/y ratio change depended on the population of radicals from each radiation component with different LET. The gamma dose in a mixed radiation field was estimated by an additive gamma ray irradiation experiment and the measured dose rate at specified locations in the containment building.

  • Phase-shift fullbridge (PSFB) converter detects the current in the primary side for operation of the peak current mode controller (PCMC). The PCMC must used the slope compensation to solve the problem when the effective duty is over 0.5. The voltage response of PSFB converters has slower than that of buck converter because of slew interval even if the voltage controllers of two converters have same bandwidth. To overcome these problems, this work proposes a compensating method of current reference considering slew interval and fast response in the PSFB converter. The effectiveness of the proposed method is proven using the PSIM simulation and experiment.

A High-Resolution Dual-Loop Digital DLL

  • A new dual-loop digital delay-locked loop (DLL) using a hybrid (binary + sequential) search algorithm is presented to achieve both wide-range operation and high delay resolution. A new phase-interpolation range selector (PIRS) and a variable successive approximation register (VSAR) algorithm are adopted to resolve the boundary switching and harmonic locking problems of conventional digital DLLs. The proposed digital DLL, implemented in a $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS process, occupies an active area of $0.19mm^2$ and operates over a wide frequency range of 0.15-1.5 GHz. The DLL dissipates a power of 11.3 mW from a 1.8 V supply at 1 GHz. The measured peak-to-peak output clock jitter is 24 ps (effective pk-pk jitter = 16.5 ps) with an input clock jitter of 7.5 ps at 1.5 GHz. The delay resolution is only 2.2 ps.

  • A 5-phase phase-locked loop (PLL) for USB2.0 applications was implemented by using an all-synthesis technique. The length of the time-to-digital converter for the fine phase detector was halved by the operation of a coarse phase detector that uses 5-phase clocks. The maximum time difference between the rising edges of two adjacent-phase clocks was 6 ps at 480 MHz. The PLL chip in a 65-nm process occupies $0.038mm^2$, consumes 4.8 mW at 1.2 V. The measured rms and peak-to-peak output jitters are 8.6 ps and 45 ps, respectively.

  • In this paper, the ride comfort of a passenger coach installed with a KT23 type bogie was measured and evaluated through field test in operation routes. The ride comfort level was evaluated and analysed by ISO method and DIC method that were applied generally at railway fields. Particularly three evaluation methods, i.e., a simple method, a full standing method, and a full seating method of UIC513R standard, were fully applied to evaluate the ride quality. Also the vertical and lateral vibration levels on the floor were evaluated by peak-to-peak analysis method.

  • The switched reluctance motor(SRM) has considerable potential for industrial applications because of its high result lily as a result of the absence of rotor windings. In some applications with SRM, paralleling strategy is often used for cost saving, increasing of current capacity and system reliability. A SRM inverter has very low ,switching frequency. This results in reducing the burden for a high-speed of the gate-amp interface circuit. and the linearity of optocoupler is used to protect the instantaneous peak current for the stable operation. In this paper, series resistor is used to equal the current sharing of each switching device and a linear gate-amp is proposed to protect the instantaneous peak current which occurs in transient state. The proposed paralleling strategy is verified by experimental results.

  • The yearly load forecasting system has been developed for the economic and secure operation of electric power system. It forecasts yearly peak load and thereafter deduces hourly load using the top-down approach. Relative coefficient model has been applied to estimate peak load of a specific date or a specific day of the week. It is equipped with graphic user interface which enables a user to easily access to the system. Yearly average forecasting error may be reduced to $2{\sim}3$(%) only if we can forecast summer-time temperature correctly.

  • Electrical power peak demand of Republic of Korea is annually growing and the peak demand has occurred in the summer. It is difficult that we handle with constructing power plants and increasing generation capacity to cope with a suddenly increased demand due to the cost problem, difficulty to find the new plant site, and the spread of the NIMBY. The alternative of the above problem is to efficiently manage demand of electrical power. Accordingly, load shedding of a section of demand side management is investigated. First we surveyed a trend of research in the domestic and overseas, for load curtailment and demand response program. After reviewing several demand response programs, the future research direction for load shedding in emergency and normal operation is introduced.
