  • This study was performed to analyze the affect of water supply capacity followed by allocating flood control volume in heightening reservoir, of which Baekgog reservoir was selected as a case study in here. Baekgog reservoir is located in Jincheon county, Chungbuk province, of which full water level will be heightened from EL. 100. 1m to EL. 102.1m, and total storage from 21.75M $m^3$ to 26.67M $m^3$. Flood inflow with 200year frequency was estimated to 997 $m^3$/s in peak flow and 22.54M $m^3$ in total volume. Reservoir flood routing was conducted to determine flood limited water levels, which was determined to have scenarios such as EL 97-98-99m in periods of 6.21.-7.20., 7.21.-8.20., and 8.21.-9.20., respectively, EL 97-97-97m, EL 98-98-98m in present reservoir, and EL 99-100-101m, EL 99-99-99m, and EL 100-100-100m in heightened reservoir. Reservoir inflow was simulated by DAWAST model. Annual paddy irrigation requirement was estimated to 33.19M $m^3$ to 2,975ha. Instream flow was allocated to 0.14mm/d from October to April. Operation rule curve was drawn using inflow, irrigation and instream flow requirements data. In case of withdrawal limit reservoir operation using operation rule curve, reduction rates of annual irrigation supply before and after flood control by reservoir were 2.0~4.3% in present size and 1.5~3.6% in heightened size. Reliability on water supply was decreased from 77.3% to 63.6~68.2% in present size and from 81.6% to 72.7~79.5% in heightened size. And reduction rates of water storage at the end of year before and after flood control by reservoir were 7.3~16.5% in present size and 7.7~16.9% in heightened size. But water supplies were done without any water deficiency through withdrawal limit reservoir operation in spite of low flood regulating water level.

  • Voltammetric behavior of some light lanthanide ions($La^{3+}$, $Pr^{3+}$, $Nd^{3+}$, $Sm^{3+}$ and $Eu^{3+}$) in acetonitrile(AN) and dimethylformamide(DMF) has been investigated by direct current, differential pulse polarography and cyclic voltammetry. The reduction of $La^{3+}$, $Pr^{3+}$ and $Nd^{3+}$ in 0.1M TEAP proceeded directly to the metallic state through three-electron charge transfer of irreversible process where as $Sm^{3+}$ and $Eu^{3+}$ proceeded by charge transfer of two steps. As the results of the cyclic voltammetric investigation, the first step reduction of $Sm^{3+}$ and $Eu^{3+}$ were a quasireversible reaction, the second step reductions were an irreversible reaction. The cathodic peak currents of the differential pulse polarogram showed adsorptive properties at lower sweep rates and high concentrations of these metal ions. The peak potenital was shifted to a negative petential and the peak current decreased with the increase of percentage of water in AN. On the other hand, the peak potential was shifted to a positive potential and the peak current decreased with an increased percentage of water in DMF.

  • In this study, the optimal sewer layout model(Lee, J.H., 2010)[1] was applied to verify the reduction effect of urban inundation in the optimal sewer networks, which designed by this optimal model, for various artificial rainfall events in urban areas. Then the optimal model was developed by Lee, J.H. to minimize the peak outflow at outlet in sewer network. The applied rainfall events are two types. One is the rainfall event which the double peak occurs between specific time distance continuously. The other is the continuous rainfall event with specific rainfall intensity. As the result, in two applied rainfall types, the peak outflows at outlet were reduced in the optimal sewer networks which designed the optimal sewer layout model of Lee, J.H.. Therefore, the peak outflow is reduced because the inflows at each manhole are distributed in the whole sewer networks, it's not delay of inflows by this optimal model.

  • Aeroacoustic characteristics of sirocco fan used in Over-The-Range (OTR) has been analyzed in this paper. A microwave hood combination over the gas range is short for the OTR. The flow phenomena of the double-sided sirocco fan was analyzed numerically and experimentally by using commercial code and three dimensional PIV for flow visualization. Also, microphone array is used in order to understand acoustic characteristics of OTR. Two dimensional unsteady flow and acoustic simulation is tried to qualitatively estimate the effects of tonal noise and broadband noise on the overall sound pressure level. It is found that tonal sound is generated from the strong interaction between the impeller and cutoff while broadband sound is generated from the strong secondary flows along the scroll surface. To reduce the noise level, the V-shape cut-off was applied to improve the sound quality by reducing tonal noise. So the peak noise at BPF (Blade Passing Frequency) was almost reduced. The shape of flow-guide to suppress the secondary flow over the scroll surface was carefully checked. It is found that this affects flow pattern at the fan exit and reduces the broad band noise. Through this numerical and experimental study, the sound pressure level was lowered by 4dBA compared to that of the previous fan at the operating point.

  • A computer program is developed for the prediction of NO generation by the addition of water moisture and water electrolysis gas in LNG-fired turbulent reacting flow. This study is the first part to deal with the moisture effect on NO generation. In this study, parametric investigation has been made in order to see the reduction of thermal NO as a function of amount of moisture content in a LNG-fired flame together with the swirl and radiation effect. First of all, calculation results show that the flame separation together with the NO concentration separation are observed by the typical flow separation due to strong swirl flow. With a fixed amount of air, the increased amount of water moisture from 0 to 10% by 2% interval shows the decrease of NO concentration and flame temperature at exit are from $973^{\circ}C$ and 139 ppm to $852^{\circ}C$ and 71 ppm. The radiation effects on the generation on NO appears more dominant than swirl strength over the range employed in this study. However, for the strong swirl flow employed in this study, the flow separation cause the relatively high NO concentration observed near exit after peak concentration in the front side of the combustor.

  • This study analyzed the effect of flood level reduction in the case of creating and operating offline storage for the Jangdong district, which can be used as a flood buffer space for the Geumgang River, through one-dimensional unsteady flow numerical simulation. In particular, the sensitivity analysis of changes in the height and width (length) of transverse weirs on flood level changes was performed to provide quantitative information necessary for flood control facility (embankment) design. As a result of analyzing the flood control effect of the offline storage based on the peak flood discharge and level, spatially, the flood control effect at the planned flood buffer space site and the downstream end was confirmed, and it was confirmed that the flood reduction effect at the downstream occurred the most. By design conditions of the transverse overflow weir, the greatest flood reduction effect was found under the condition that the overflow weir height based on the 50-year frequency flood level and the transverse overflow weir width (length) of 125 m were considered. The effect of delaying the time to reach the maximum flood due to the operation of the offline storage site was also presented based on unsteady flow modeling.

  • An innovative ozonizer has been developed using a high frequency, surface discharge and a high purity Ti-Si-AI ceramic catalyst as a dielectric component. Using a type of thin film, a thin cylindrical compound ceramic catalyst layer was adhered to the outside surface of its inner electrode. An alternating current (AC) exciting voltage with frequencies from 0.6 KHz to 1.0 KHz and peak-to-peak voltages of 4-6 ㎸ was applied between the electrodes to produce a stable high-frequency silent discharge. A substantial reduction of the exciting voltage was also enabled by means of a thin Ti-Si-Al ceramic catalyst tube. As a result, the ozonizer can effortlessly obtain the required ozone concentration (50-60 g/$m^2$ for oxygen) and high ozone efficiency consumption power (180 g/kWh for oxygen) with-out the assistance of any particular methods. For purposes of this experiment, oxygen gas temperature was set at 2$0^{\circ}C$, with an inner reactor pressure of 1.6 atm at 600 Hz and a flow rate of 2 l/min.

  • In this research, the hydrologic effects between a pre-existing urban landuse and low impact development (LID) applied conditions were compared and evaluated. The infiltration trench and tree box filter that were utilized in LID represent only 1% of the catchment area that they drain. Storm event monitoring were conducted from July 2010 to July 2014 on a total of 22 storm events in both LID sites. After LID, hydrological improvement was observed as the sites exhibited a delay (lag time) or reduction in the magnitude, frequency and duration of runoff and flow peaks as the rainfall progress. In addition, the maximum irreducible peak flow reduction for infiltration trench was found to be 61% and 33% for the tree box filter when rainfall was 40 mm and 30 mm, respectively. In designing LID, it is recommended to consider the storage capacity and catchment area, as well as the amount of rainfall and runoff on the site.

  • The purpose of this research is to develop the model for analyzing the hydraulic behavior of off-stream reservoir whose purpose is to reduce a peak flood. When a flood occurs in river, off-stream reservoir has a capability of sharing a part of peak flood. It is accomplished by flowing over a off-line weir that is built by lowering a portion of bank and connecting river with off-line reservoir. Since flood control depends on river elevation, characteristics of off-line weir (elevation, length, position et al.) and reservoir capacities, an integrated model linking the one dimensional unsteady river flow model, off-line weir model and two dimensional unsteady flood model is developed to analyze the behavior of off-stream reservoir and off-line weir. The results show that a flood control capability of off-stream reservoir strongly depends on facilities of off-line weir and storage capacity of offstream reservoir.

  • In this study, the effects of changed environment on spatial extension of flood discharge data which is generating discharge data at ungauged watersheds. Especially, effects of dams on spatial extensions of flood discharge data and on natural flow generation were studied. This is somehow an intial trial of flood discharge data generation for heterogeneous watersheds because of dam installation. Data extensions have been performed based on the flood discharge data from YeoJoo water gauge station located on the Nam-Han River. For the evaluation of flood discharge data spatial extension under dam effects and producing natural flow, 41 flood events associated with YeoJoo water gauge station were selected from 1986 to 2010. When flood discharge data were extended based on YeoJoo water gauge station, 77% of selected flood events were over the satisfaction ranges (NSE>0.5) of Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency for model validation. Extended flood discharge data at Yangpyung has 0.84 NSE obtained from spatial data extension based on YeoJoo water gauge station. Generated natural flow at YeoJoo was influenced strongly by Chungju Dam which has larger effects on streamflow at YeoJoo than Hoangsung Dam. Observed peak discharges after the 1986 of Chungju Dam installation were smaller than those of the obtained natural flow. Through these results, spatial extension of flood discharge data with installed dams works efficiently for ungauged watersheds and natural flow can be generated using extended flood discharge data.
