Structural Investigation of Infrared Transmitting $PbO-Bi_2O_3-Ga_2O_3$ Glasses by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (X-선 광전자 분광법(XPS)을 이용한 $PbO-Bi_2O_3-Ga_2O_3$계 적외선 투과 유리의 구조해석)

  • X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) has been empolyed to investigate the structure of PbO-Bi2O3-Ga2O3 glasses. XPS OIS spectra recorded from binary PbO-Ga2O3 glasses clearly showed the presence of two peacks due to bridging and non-bridging oxygens, respectively. Gaussin best-fit deconvolution of the OIS peaks suggested there are substaintial amount of non-bridging oxygens in the structure. Therefore, in addition to the glassforming and charge compensating roles of PbO as suggested from the previous works, role of PbO as network modifiers needs to be considered. Addition of Bi2O3 to binary glasses resulted in the rapid decrease in the amount of non-bridging oxygens as well as in values of FWHM (Full Width at the Half Maximum intensity). It is believed that Bi2O3 form distorted BiO6 octahedra and therefore, work as intermediates. Infrared spectra also suggested that Ga2O3 behave as network-formers in the form of GaO4- tetrahedra.

  • Ga K-edge EXAFS spectra of PbO-Ga2O3 glasses were recorded at liquid nitrogen temperature and analyz-ed in order to quantitatively understand the medium-range-order arrangement around gallium in the glasses. The second peak was generated from a backscattering of the neighbor balliums and the Ga-Ga distance is ~3.13 A with Ga coordination number of ~2.7 Therefore GaO4 tetrahedra are connected through the cor-ner~sharing mode and form their own clusters made of the tetrahedra sharing more than 3 corners while some chains or rings are also present. These connection schemes of the GaO4 tetrahedra are believed to form the substantial part of the network structure.

Effects of $GeO_2$ Addition on the Stabilities of $PbO-Bi_2O_3-Ga_2O_3$ Glasses ($GeO_2$의 첨가가 $PbO-Bi_2O_3-Ga_2O_3$ 유리의 안정화에 미치는 영향)

  • Effects of GeO2 addition on the thermal and structural stabilities of PbO-Bi2O3-Ga2O3 glasses were studied. Thermal stabilities, as assessed by the weighted thermal stability factors [(Tx-Tg)/Tg], increased with GeO2 concentraton from 0.097 to 0.210 with the addition of 20 mol% GeO2. Increasing GeO2 content resulted in the decrease of apparent density, molar volume, refractive index and thermal expansion. On the other hand, IR transmission cut-off (λT=50%) moved from 6.73${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ for the ternary PbO-Bi2O3-Ga2O3 glass to shorter wavelength side, 5.98${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ for a glass containing 20mol% GeO2. There were little change with GeO2 content, however, in the activation energies for the viscous flow of approximately 140 kcal/mole within the temperature interval of 300~50$0^{\circ}C$. Addition of GeO2 to PbO-Bi2O3-Ga2O3 glasses enhanced the thermal and structural stabilities significantly at the expense of their infrared transmittance. An appropriate compsomise between these two opposite trends should be made following the specifications of the final applications.

  • P2O3-PbO-SiO2-Al2O3계 조성을 이용하여 저온에서 소결이 가증하며 열팽창계수와 유전율이 낮은 회로기판용 glass ceramics를 제조하고자 하였다. 155$0^{\circ}C$에서 2시간 동안 용 융하여 제조한 모유리의열팽창 거동을 확인하기 위하여 TMA로 열분석을 실시하였으며 이 유리를 분말화하여 80$0^{\circ}C$에서 열처리 하였다. 이때 cristobalite 형성억제제로 Ga2O3를 사용 하였으며 Ga2O3 첨가량에 따른 억제 영향을 XRD를 통행 확인하였다. Ga2O3를 첨가한 유리 분말로 pellet을 제조하여 열처리를 하였고 소결시편의 표면을 SEM을 통해 관찰하였다. 열 처리한 pellet에 silver paste를 screen printing하여 유전율을 측정하였으며 조성에 따른 유 전율의 변화를 확인하였다.

  • In the study, the thermal and optical properties of SiO$_2$-PbO-K$_2$O-Al$_2$O$_3$ g1asses were investigated. According to Ga$_2$O$_3$ addictions, the properties of bulk glass, transition temperature and softening temperature were increased, whereas thermal expansion coefficient was decreased; In the optical properties, refractive index was increased, and IR cut-off wavelength was enlarged from 4.64$\mu\textrm{m}$ to 5.22$\mu\textrm{m}$. But, the optical loss of fiber was decreased.

  • In this study, the microstructure, dielectric and piezoelectric properties of $0.15Pb(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.85(PbZr_{0.5}Ti_{0.5})O_3$(0.15PNN-0.85PZT) ceramics having compositions near the morphotropic phase boundary(MPB) was investigated with respect to the variation of $Y_2O_3$ and $Ga_2O_3$ addition amount. The dielectric properties increased and piezoelectric properties decreased with increasing the amount of $Ga_2O_3$. The solubility limit of $Y_2O_3$ is 0.5mol% in this system. The electro-mechanical coupling factor$(K_p)$ and dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}_r$) were 58.6% and 1755 when the amount of $Y_2O_3$ are 0.5mol%.

Element Dispersion by the Wallrock Alteration of Janggun Lead-Zinc-Silver Deposit (장군 연-아연-은 광상의 모암변질에 따른 원소분산)

  • The Janggun lead-zinc-silver deposit is hydrothermal-metasomatic deposit. We have sampled wallrock, hydrother-maly-altered rock and lead-zinc-silver ore vein to study the element dispersion during wallrock alteration. The hydrothermal alteration that is remarkably recognized at this deposit consists of rhodochrositization and dolomitization. Wallrock is dolomite and limestone that consisit of calcite, dolomite, quartz, phlogopite and biotite. Rhodochrosite zone occurs near lead-zinc-silver ore vein and include mainly rhodochrosite with amounts of calcite, dolomite, kutnahorite, arsenopyrite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena and stannite. Dolomite zone occurs far from lead-zinc-silver ore vein and is composed of mainly dolomite and minor calcite, rhodochrosite, pyrite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, galena and stannite. The correlation coefficients among major, trace and rare earth elements during wallrock alteration show high positive correlations(dolomite and limestone = $Fe_2O_3(T)$/MnO, Ga/MnO and Rb/MnO), high negative correlations(dolomite = MgO/MnO, CaO/MnO, $CO_2$/MnO, Sr/MnO; limestone = CaO/MnO, Sr/MnO). Remarkable gain elements during wallrock alteration are $Fe_2O_3(T)$, MnO, As, Au, Cd, Cu, Ga, Pb, Rb, Sb, Sc, Sn and Zn. Remarkable loss elements are CaO, $CO_2$, MgO and Sr. Therefore, elements(CaO, $CO_2$, $Fe_2O_3(T)$, MgO, MnO, Ga, Pb, Rb, Sb, Sn, Sr and Zn) represent a potential tools for exploration in hydrothermal-metasomatic lead-zinc-silver deposits.

  • In this study, the thermal and optical proper-ties of multicomponent oxide glass fiber for IR sensor by adding heavy metal oxide Ga$_{2}$O$_{3}$ were investigated. The fiber samples were made by rod-in tube method. The optical loss of fiber was measured in 0.3-1.8/M wavelength region. As Ga$_{2}$O$_{3}$ increased up to 12wt%, the transition and softening temperature of bulk glass were increased from 495.deg. C to 564.deg. C and from 548.deg. C to 612.deg. C respectively. Whereas the thermal expansion coefficient was decreased from 102 to 88.2*10$^{-7}$ /.deg. C. The refractive index was increased from 1.621 to 1.662, and IR cut-off wavelength was enlarged from 4.64.mu.m to 5.22.mu.m. The optical loss of fiber was decreased and more remarkably decreased in 1.146.mu.m-1.8.mu.m wavelength region.
