옥천 변성대의 시기-우리는 얼마만큼 알고 있나? (The Age of the Okcheon Metamorphic Belt-How Much Do We Know?)

  • 옥천변성대 암석의 생성시기는 화석의 발견과 동위원소 연대측정으로 대부분 고생대 및 신원생대인 것으로 밝혀지고 있다. 한편 동위원소 연대자료가 축적됨과 더불어 옥천변성대의 변성시기가 페름기 초기인가 혹은 페름기 말기-트라이아스기 초기인가 하는 문제가 대두되었다. 이 문제는 달리 표현하면 위의 두 시기에 해당하는 2번의 중요한 변성작용이 있었는가 혹은 후자 시기에 해당하는 한번의 변성작용인가 하는 것이다. 변성시기를 직접 지시할 수 있는 자료를 비교할 때 페름기 초기의 변성시기에 대한 자료(석류석 내 U-Pb 갈렴석 연대)는 전체적으로 오차가 클 뿐만 아니라 페름기 말기-트라이아스기 초기를 지시하는 자료(CHIME 갈렴석 연대 및 변성 저콘의 U-Pb 연대)와 어느 정도 중첩된다. 따라서 독립적인 두 종류의 자료에 의해 지지되는 후자가 보다 신빙성이 있는 것으로 생각되며, 이 시기는 임진강대와 경기육괴에서 대륙충돌과 관련되어 나타나는 중요한 변성시기와 유사하기 때문께 대륙충돌의 영향이 한반도 넓은 지역에 퍼져 있음을 시사한다.

식물 잎을 이용한 중금속 이온의 제거에 관한 연구 (Removal of Heavy Metal Ions from Aqueous Solution by Leaves)

  • In this research, I carried out the adsorption and removal test of Pb, Ni, Co and Cu ions using organic substances spread out any where in the nature which can be obtained easily from our neighbor-such as Paulownia coreana, Pinus densiflora, Juniperus chinesis, Quercus dentata, Magnolia kobus, Platanus occidentalis, Gingko biloba, Diospyros kaki leaves. As the result of the research to find the best optional condition for the adsorption and removal, shows that the adsorption and removal ratio of Pb ion by a Paulownia coreana raw leaves is 99% at $70^{\circ}C$, those of Ni ion and Co ion by Magnolia kobus formalin treatment leaves are 79% at $70^{\circ}C$, 97% at $40^{\circ}C$ respectively. And that of Cu ion by Platanus occidentalis treatment leaves is 97% at $50^{\circ}C$ in mixed solution. As the result of comparing the removal ratio by raw leaves and formalin treatment leaves, the removal ratio of treatment is 30~90% more effective than raw leaves in most cases. And I concluded Pb > Cu > Co > Ni ion in multiple solution and Co > Ni > Cu >Pb ion in single solution after testing adsorption and removal ratio of mixed solution separately as time goes by. In general, the reactions were completed within first 5 minutes. The test result of measuring the hydrolysable tannin content of each leaf shows that an overcup Quercus dentata is 11.36%, a Diospyros kaki is 10.81% and the rest of them are 2.49~4.12% in raw leaves cases. In treatment leaves cases, an overcup Quercus dentata is 3.23% and the others are less than 1%.

폐패각을 이용한 수처리에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Water Treatment using Shell Waste)

  • 조개껍질(굴, 고막)을 수처리재로 활용하기 위한 기초 실험으로 중금속(Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb, Zn)과 유기성분(TCE(Trichlo-roethylene)와 PCE(Tetrachroethylene))의 흡착능을 조사했다. 수산화칼슘으로 이루어진 굴과 고막껍질의 소성 분말 주입에 따른 중금속 제거효율은 Mn, Zn, Fe, Cd, Cu, Pb의 순이었다. 우수한 중금속 흡착능은 조개껍질의 $Ca(OH)_2$ 성분에 의한 높은 pH유지에 따른 중금속 탄산염과 수산화물의 형성에 의한 침전작용, 조개껍질의 칼슘 매트릭스 구조에 의한 중금속의 고정화와 잔존하는 불용성 유기물의 결합 등의 작용이라고 본다. 이와 같은 굴껍질은 침출수의 중화작용과 동시에 우수한 중금속 흡착능을 가지고 있어, 이것을 수처리로 활용될 경우, 저렴한 재료의 확보와 더욱이 부가가치가 높은 폐부산자원을 활용한 정화용 세라믹스 담체의 개발로 폐부산자원 폐기처리 문제 이외의 환경정화용 세라믹스 및 담체 등의 환경분야 사업으로 확장 발전시킬 수 있다고 본다.

The protective effect of CXC chemokine receptor 2 antagonist on experimental bronchopulmonary dysplasia induced by postnatal systemic inflammation

  • Background: Animal studies have shown that a leukocyte influx precedes the development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in premature sheep. The CXC chemokine receptor 2 (CXCR2) pathway has been implicated in the pathogenesis of BPD because of the predominance of CXCR2 ligands in tracheal aspirates of preterm infants who later developed BPD. Purpose: To test the effect of CXCR2 antagonist on postnatal systemic and pulmonary inflammation and alveolarization in a newborn Sprague-Dawley rat model of BPD. Methods: Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was injected intraperitoneally (i.p.) into the newborn rats on postnatal day 1 (P1), P3, and P5 to induce systemic inflammation and inhibit alveolarization. In the same time with LPS administration, CXCR2 antagonist (SB-265610) or vehicle was injected i.p. to investigate whether CXCR2 antagonist can alleviate the detrimental effect of LPS on alveolarization by attenuating inflammation. On P7 and P14, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and peripheral blood (PB) were collected from the pups. To assess alveolarization, mean cord length and alveolar surface area were measured on 4 random nonoverlapping fields per animal in 2 distal lung sections at ×100 magnification. Results: Early postnatal LPS administration significantly increased neutrophil counts in BALF and PB and inhibited alveolarization, which was indicated by a greater mean cord length and lesser alveolar surface area. CXCR2 antagonist significantly attenuated the increase of neutrophil counts in BALF and PB and restored alveolarization as indicated by a decreased mean cord length and increased alveolar surface area in rat pups exposed to early postnatal systemic LPS. Conclusion: CXCR2 antagonist preserved alveolarization by alleviating pulmonary and systemic inflammation induced by early postnatal systemic LPS administration. These results suggest that CXCR2 antagonist can be considered a potential therapeutic agent for BPD that results from disrupted alveolarization induced by inflammation.

Quantification of Pediatric Cervical Spine Growth at the Cranio-Vertebral Junction

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate morphological change at the craniovertebral junction (CVJ) region using computed tomography. Methods : A total of 238 patients were included in this study, and mean age was $47.8{\pm}21.3months$. Spinal canal diameter, Power's ratio, McRae line, antero-posterior C1 ring height, atlantoaxial joint space, C2 growth, epidural space from the dens (M-PB-C2) and longitudinal distance (basion to C2 lower margin, B-C2) were measured. The mean value of each parameter was assessed for individual age groups. The cohorts were then divided into three larger age groups : infancy (I) (${\leq}2years$), very early (VE) childhood (2-5 years) and early (E) childhood ($5{\geq}years$). Results : Spinal canal diameter increased with age; however, this value did not increase with statistical significance after VE age. A significant age-related difference was found for all C2 body and odontoid parameters (p<0.05). Mean McRae line was 8.5, 8, and 7.5 mm in the I, VE, and E groups, respectively. The M-PB-C2 line showed up-and-down dynamic change during early pediatric periods. Conclusion : Expansion of the spinal canal was restricted to the very early childhood period (less than 5 years) in the CVJ region; however, the C2 body and odontoid process increased continuously with age. The above results induced a dynamic change in the M-PB-C2 line. Although C2 longitudinal growth continued with age, the McRae line showed relatively little change.

Removal study of As (V), Pb (II), and Cd (II) metal ions from aqueous solution by emulsion liquid membrane

  • Emulsion Liquid Membrane (ELM) is a prominent technique for the separation of heavy metal ions from wastewater due to the fast extraction and is a single-stage operation of stripping-extraction. The selection of the components (Surfactant and Carrier) of ELM is a very significant step for its preparation. In the ELM technique, the primary water- in-oil (W/O) emulsion is emulsified in water to produce water-in-oil-in-water (W/O/W) emulsion. The water in oil emulsion was prepared by mixing the membrane phase and internal phase. To prepare the membrane phase, the extractant D2EHPA (di-2-ethylhexylphosphoric acid) was used as a mobile carrier, Span-80 as a surfactant, and Paraffin as a diluent. Moreover, the internal (receiving) phase was prepared by dissolving sulphuric acid in water. Di-(2- ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid such as surfactant concentration, carrier concentration, sulphuric acid concentration in the receiving (internal) phase, agitation time (emulsion phase and feed phase), the volume ratio of the membrane phase to the receiving phase, the volume ratio of the external feed phase to the primary water-in-oil emulsion and pH of feed were studied on the percentage extraction of metal ions at 20℃. The results show that it is possible to remove 78% for As(V), 98% for Cd(II), and 99% for Pb(II). 수피에 의한 중금속 흡착(I) (Adsorption of Heavy Metal Ions on Bark(I))

  • The pretreatment of bark powder with sodium hydroxide and formalin showed the most excellent adsorption ratio, but this method could not practically be used because of the occurrence of dark-colored pigments in filtrates during pretreatment. Instead, acid and formalin were the most affirmative and effective among the pretreatment methods tested, and could be used for this purpose. Among tested species, Quercus acutissima and Robinia pseudo-accacia showed the largest amount of metal adsorption, and $Pb^{2+}$ was the best(83 to 96%) among the four heavy metals tested. The order of adsorption ratios other metals was as follows; $Cu^{2+}$ > $Zn^{2+}$ > $Cd^{2+}$, and the ratio was approximately 45 to 55%. In addition, as the substrate amount increased, the amount of adsorbed heavy metals in subtrates gradually increased, but the adsorbed amount was not proportional to the substrate amount. The order of heavy metal adsorption was as follows; $Pb^{2+}$ > $Cu^{2+}$ > $Cd^{2+}$ > $Zn^{2+}$. Depending on flow rate and column size, pine bark power adsorbed more heavy metals in the 5ml/min flow rate and 3.5cm column size rather than the 10ml/min and 2.0cm. However, oak bark power showed contrary results compared with pine bark powder. The adsorption of $Pb^{2+}$ occurred rapidly in the incipient stagte. Even though bark powders were repeatedly used three times, there was no change in the adsorption ratio(45%), but after four times, the adsorption ratio was significantly reduced to 35%.

분해된 과산화수소와 케로신을 이용한 1,200 N 급 이원추진제 로켓 엔진의 연구 (Study on 1,200 N-class bipropellant rocket engine using decomposed $H_2O_2$ and kerosene)

  • 고농도 과산화수소를 이용하는 1,200 N 급 이원추진제 로켓 엔진 개발을 위한 선행 연구의 일환으로 이원추진제 엔진 요소를 설계하고 실험적으로 연구하였다. 공급된 과산화수소의 분해 성능을 비교하기 위해, $MnO_2$와 Pb가 첨가된 $MnO_2$ 촉매들에 대한 실험을 하였다. 실험결과를 바탕으로, 촉매 반응기를 설계하였으며, 97.2%의 분해 효율을 얻었다. 별도의 점화원이 없이 자연점화를 이용하기 위해, 다양한 당량비에 대해 자연점화 실험을 수행하였다. 모든 실험조건에서 자연 점화를 확인하였으며, $C^*$ 효율은 90% 혹은 그 이상을 보였다. 추력측정 결과, 가장 높은 추력은 830 N을 보였으며, $C^*$ 효율과 $I_{sp}$ 효율을 같다고 가정했을 때, 진공 추력 1,035 N으로 계산되었다.

Triclosan의 독성에 중금속이 미치는 영향 - V. fischeri Assay 관련 내용 중심으로 - (A Effect of Heavy Metal to Toxicity of Triclosan Focused on Vibrio fischeri Assay)

  • 본 연구에서는 합성 항균제로 이용되는 Triclosan이 $Cu^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$, $Cr^{6+}$, $Cd^{2+}$, $Hg^{2+}$, $Pb^{2+}$ 등과 같은 중금속과 공존할 경우의 독성영향을 발광박테리아인 Vibrio fischeri를 이용하여 평가하였다. 우선, Triclosan과 상기 6종 중금속의 단일물질별 Vibrio fischeri에 대한 독성을 평가한 결과, $Hg^{2+}$의 독성이 가장 높았으며 뒤이어 Triclosan > $Pb^{2+}$ > $Cu^{2+}$ > $Cr^{6+}$ > $Zn^{2+}$ > $Cd^{2+}$순의 독성민감도가 나타났다. 각 물질의 독성평가결과를 바탕으로 Triclosan과 중금속 혼합물질의 독성작용분석을 위해 유사한 독성작용을 가정하여 독성치를 예측하는 Concentration Addition (CA)모델과 독립적인 독성작용을 가정하여 독성치를 예측하는 Independent Action (IA)모델에 대한 상관도분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 Triclosan + Cu, Triclosan + Zn, Triclosan + Pb, Triclosan + Hg, Triclosan + Cd, 그리고 Triclosan + Cr 등 모든 조합에서 CA모델보다는 IA모델과 상관성이 높은 것으로 나타나 Triclosan과 대상 중금속들은 서로 독립적인 독성작용을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 Triclosan과 중금속의 혼합독성영향은 IA모델로 예측된 $EC_{50mix}$기준으로 Triclosan + Cu, Triclosan + Zn, Triclosan + Pb, Triclosan + Hg, Triclosan + Cd, 그리고 Triclosan + Cr의 실측 $EC_{50mix}$이 IA모델로 예측한 농도보다 각각 191%, 226%, 138%, 137%, 209% 그리고 138%로 나타나, Triclosan과 시험 중금속이 공존하는 경우, 모두 길항작용이 나타나는 것으로 확인되었다.

Background reduction by Cu/Pb shielding and efficiency study of NaI(TI) detector

  • The background spectrum of a $3^{{\prime}{\prime}}{\times}3^{{\prime}{\prime}}$ NaI(Tl) well-type scintillation SILENA detector was measured without shielding, in 6 cm thick lead shielding, and with 2 mm thick electrolytic copper covering the detector inside the lead shielding. The relative remaining background of the lead shield lined with copper was found to be ideal for low-level environmental radioactive spectroscopy. The background total count rate in the (20-2160 KeV) was reduced 28.7 times by the lead and 29 times by the Cu + Pb shielding. The effective reduction of background (1.04) by the copper mainly appeared in the energy range from X-ray up to 500 KeV, while for the total energy range the ratio is 1.01 relative to the lead only. In addition, a strong relation between the full-energy peak absolute efficiency and the detector well height was found using gamma-ray isotropic radiation point sources placed inside the detector well. The full-energy peak efficiency at a midpoint of the well (at 2.5 cm) is three times greater than that on the detector surface. The energy calibrations and the resolution of any single energy line are independent of the locations of the gamma source inside or outside of the well.
