The Current Use of Human Patient Simulators in Nursing Schools in Korea (간호교육에서의 환자시뮬레이션 교육 현황)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to explore the current usage of high integration mannequin human patient simulators (hereafter HPS) in nursing education. Methods: Thirty-two faculty members in 11 nursing schools participated in this survey. the questionnaire consisted of some multiple-choice questions and open questions to collect data on the experience of faculty members with using HPS as well as quantitative information. Results: The faculty members who used HPS in their classes recognized the need to use simulation in nursing education. They identified the advantages of simulation education as promoting adaptation to the clinical environment(46.9%), promoting self-confidence(28.1%), promoting critical thinking(28.15), and making direct nursing skill practice available(28.1%). However, they considered the obstacles to the use of simulation in nursing education to be insufficient manpower(62.5%), insufficient time(40.6%), and difficulty in preparing a teaching strategy(34.4%). Conclusion: HPS is useful in nursing education, but systematic plans and policies regarding on its operation are needed to confirm its effectiveness. The results of this study generally provide a basic information for use of HPS in nursing education.

Analysis of Patient Transport in Taegu Subway Fire Disaster (대구지하철화재 시의 피해자 이송의 분석)

  • According to the analysis of the patient transport in the fire disaster occuring at Taegu Subway Jungangro Station February 18th, 2003, authors concluded as follows. Patients were transported mainly to medical institutes which were larger and that had shorter distance. Because of non-emergenct patient's transport to larger and nearer institutes, some critical patients should be transported to more distant institutes. Dead patients before arrival were transported relatively evenly. An adequate transport according to adequate triage should be performed in the future. Early mitigation and response, correlation with the method of transport, regional guide line of disaster transport and correlation between disaster information and emergency medical information should be corrected and need research in the future.

  • End Stage Renal Disease resulting from complications of the 4 top causes of death including diabetes and hyperpiesia becomes one of the major social problems these days in the context that this disease unaffordably increases the medical cost and decreases the quality of life. For a kidney disease, it is hard to diagnose, cure and recover as there are few subjective symptoms. Therefore, the prevention is very important. In this paper, we propose a method, which checks the abnormal state of the kidney, using the patient's face color and gloss which is employed for diagnosis in the oriental medicine. This method composes of two processes. The first is to acquire the patient's face data applying a polarizing filter and the next is to analyse relations between kidney disease and this data.

Hospital Nurses' Pre-diabetes Knowledge, Performance and Expectation of Patient Education (병원간호사의 당뇨병고위험군 지식, 교육수행과 기대)

  • Purpose: This study attempted to describe hospital nurses' pre-diabetes knowledge, performance and expectation of patient. Methods: The total of 204 hospital nurses were administered the questionnaires. The questionnaire comprises general background information (including sex, age, religion, education and career), ten researcher-generated questions regarding knowledge about pre-diabetes, performance of patient education (including how many people encounter in workplace, how often teaching, how many minutes required to teach and course contents) and expectation (including need improvement of teaching, barrier to education and desirable course contents and teaching methods) Results: The average score of hospital nurses' pre-diabetes knowledge was as low as 0.82 (82% correctness). On comparison of the knowledge levels among ten pre-diabetes knowledge dimensions, the highest score was 0.95 for necessary of medical check-up. The lowest score was 0.57 for complication can rarely happen. Significant correlations were observed for education, career and knowledge regarding pre-diabetes. Moreover, 49.5% of the nurses did not instruct patients about pre-diabetes, 24.5% taught prevention skills to a third of the pre-diabetes patients they encountered, and 61.2% nurses disseminated information under 5 minutes. Improvement was necessary for 78 nurses (75.8%). Conclusion: Pre-diabetes awareness among nurses is necessary.

  • This paper presents a user authentication scheme for healthcare application using wireless sensor networks, where wireless sensors are used for patients monitoring. These medical sensors' sense the patient body data and transmit it to the professionals. Since, the data of an individual are highly vulnerable; it must ensures that patients medical vital signs are secure, and are not exposed to an unauthorized person. In this regards, we propose a user authentication scheme for healthcare application using medical sensor networks. The proposed scheme includes: a novel two-factor user authentication, where the healthcare professionals are authenticated before access the patient's body data; a secure session key is establish between the patient sensor node and the professional at the end of user authentication. Furthermore, the analysis shows that the proposed scheme is safeguard to various practical attacks and achieves efficiency at low computation cost.

  • Researches of Healthcare have been fulfilled lively with an advanced age and change of lifestyles. Especially, medical field has focused on researches of Healthcare due to that reasons. The Healthcare service requires the foundation technologies, such as sensor aggregating, data saving and data transmitting/analysis. In this research, we proposed the unrestricted equipment which can save a lot of aggregated patient's medical data to guarantee the patient's movement in Healthcare service. Moreover, we research the method which can transmit the aggregated data as soon as possible. Also, we implemented the system which can transmit the patient's medical data automatically for convenient use.

  • X-ray equipment used to diagnose a patient has a big defect of a patient's exposure to radiation caused in irradiating X-ray to the human body, ICRP restricts the permissible exposure dose of the human body. A number of studies has been proceeded to reduce these exposures. In this study the high voltage generator with inverter system, which is possible to increase the generation efficiency of X-ray and to control the precise output power was produced. Also, to minimize the ripple which is possible to occur in the direct voltage that is applied to X-ray tube the propagation rectification method was applied and the radiation reproducibility and properties were evaluated to use this for the diagnosis of patient.

  • Increasing of number of people who suffered from long term chronic diseases which required frequent daily health monitoring and body check up in conjunction with the trendy uses of mobile phones and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) in various ubiquitous computing had make portable healthcare system a well known application today. A mobile phone based portable healthcare monitoring system with multiple vital signals monitoring ability at real time in WSN and CDMA network is developed. This system carries out real time monitoring and local data analysis process in the mobile phone. Any detection of abnormal health condition and diagnosis at earlier stage will reduce the risk of patient's life. As an extension to the existing model, a pre-diagnosis management system (PDMS) is designed to minimize the time consuming in pre-diagnosis process in the hospital or healthcare center. An alert is sent to the web server at the healthcare center when the patient detects his health is at critical state where the immediate diagnosis is needed. Preparation of diagnosis equipments and arrangement of doctor and nurses at the hospital side can be done earlier before the arrival of patient at the hospital with the help of PDMS. An efficient pre-diagnosis management increases the chances of diseases recovery rate as well.

  • 연명의료결정법의 정식 명칭은 '호스피스 완화의료 및 임종 과정에 있는 환자의 연명의료 결정에 관한 법'이다. 이 법은 호스피스 완화의료에 대한 것과 환자의 연명의료 결정에 대한 것을 규정하고 있다. 특히, 후자의 연명의료결정에 관한 부분은 법제정 과정에서 법 종교 의료 윤리 등 다양한 분야에서 논박이 있었지만 2018년 2월 4일부터 시행되고 있다. 법학에서는 이 법이 생명이라는 법익과 관련되어 있어 형사법적, 민사법적으로 중요한 의미를 갖는다. 이 법이 탄생되기 위해 두 번의 변곡점이 있었다. 첫째, 1997년 '보라매병원 사건'에서 의사를 작위에 의한 살인방조죄로 판결한 사건 둘째, 2009년 '김 할머니' 사건에서 회생할 수 없을 경우 가족 등이 진술한 환자 의사에 따라 연명 의료를 중단할 수 있다는 대법원 판결이다. 연명의료결정법은 헌법상 생명권과 자기운명결정권이라는 기본권 충돌이 발생한다. 두 기본권이 서로 상충 할 때에는 어떠한 기본권을 우선해야 하는지가 실질적으로 문제되는데, 이익형량을 통한 규범의 조화로운 해석을 통해 해결해야 한다. 또한 이 법의 흠결과 문제점을 고찰하여 개정작업이 진행되어야 한다.

Restoration using dental CAD/CAM system in severe tooth wear patient: A case report

  • In a situation where a vertical dimension has to be increased, the normal occlusion, function and aesthetics should be restored after taking into consideration the neuromuscular system and temporomandibular join. In order to do this, the provisional prosthesis should be made according to the patient's information. Moreover, the period of adjustment should be made through the provisional prosthesis modification, if necessary. The patient is then transferred to the final prosthesis to obtain results that are satisfactory. In the modern-day world, provisional prosthesis are replicated using three dimensional scanning and computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) then made into final prosthesis. The adaptability of stomatognathic system can be judged by the PMMA provisional restoration. Functional and aesthetical aspect can be obtained. The adjustment period can be shortened by an intraoral correction and proper wear between provisional restorations. By using the CAD/CAM technology that transfers the information right into the final prosthesis.
