  • Objectives : Patients with neck tumor and their family need every information about the disease. Especially, the size and location are confusing with verbal information. With the aid of CT, the problem had some answer, but it needs some medical education. We would like to know the usefullness of 3D reconstructed images in patient education about the disease. Material and Methods : Neck CT data were collected from 10 patients with various neck tumors and converted to 3D reconstructed images. Understanding of the patients about the size and location of tumors were rated from questionaires using axial CT images and 3D images. Results : Understanding score about 3D images were greater than that of CT images(p<0.006). Conclusion : 3D reconstructed images of CT could give the patients more real visual information about the disease.

  • Recently, The medical services make use mobile healthcare system to transmit patient information on wireless environment. But It is difficult to satisfied for specified patient to send message, and it's not sufficient healthcare system to help regular treatment for example a diabetic or a pregnant woman. Thus, this paper proposes an healthcare scheduling application which manages a pregnant woman pregnant-checking, fetal movement sensing, antenatal training and promotion of health information using networking, data transmission method and application framwork of WPAN concepts.

  • The fate of a emergency patient is decided upon the extent of first aid in one hour after accident. Suitable diagnosis and treatment can raise the possibility of patient's life and reduce the recuperation time. We surveys papers which were The Korean Society Of Sports Medicine(1993-2004 yeas 405papers)and The Korean Society Of Emergency Medicine (1990-2004 yeas 797 papers). This paper got the following results through analyses of problems in emergency medical service system and of injures from sports. First, portable X-RAY equipment is needed to apply it to emergency. Second, it should have small and light structure compared with old equipments and have high voltage generator unit for X-RAY using inverter. Third, it should be able to send the shot data that is digital detector type without film to doctors in emergency center.

  • The ECG-NIBP patient monitor consist of Noninvasive Blood Pressure(NIBP) module that have micro controller inside. This module transfer data by serial communication to the main processor. This system apply the fuzzy inflating method to reduce the blood pressure measuring time, and moving artifact removing algorithm, several parameters used or more accurate measurement. The ECG monitor use the Digital Signal Processor(DSP) or digital filtering, peak detection, heart rate calculation. This system also offer convenient user interface by rotary key, menu bar. With 7" CRT display, auxiliary TFT LCD display adapted to display information on wide screen.

  • This study was aimed to observe the incidences and types of hospital infections and to compare the length of hospitalization and of the operation between the infected Patients and those of non-infected after the operations. The subject of study were 465 patients who had been operated surgically in a University Hospital from March 1 to April 30, 1985. The data were collected by reviewing medical charts of subjects. The criteria to diagnose hospital infection for this study had been revised the one utilized at University of Virginia Hospital in the U.S. Summary of the results were as follows: 1. The incidence rate of hospital infection was 6 %. The type of infection with higher incidence rate in order were wound infection(28.5%)urinary infection(28.5%), fever of unknown origin (25%) and septicemia (18%). 2. There was a statistically significant difference in the duration of hospitalization between the patient group without it (t=265.2, p<0.005). 3. There was a statistically significant difference in the duration of operation between the patient group with it (t=75.0, p<0.005).

  • Classic anesthetic techniques for the inferior alveolar nerve, lingual nerve, and long buccal nerve blockade are achieved by estimating the intended location for anesthetic deposition based on palpation, inspection, and subsequent correlation for oral anatomical structures. The present article utilizes computed tomography (CT) data to 3D print a guide for repeatable and accurate deposition of a local anesthetic at the ideal location. This technical report aims to anatomically define the ideal location for local anesthetic deposition. This process has the potential to reduce patient discomfort, risk of nerve damage, and failed mandibular anesthesia, as well as to reduce the total anesthetic dose. Lastly, as robotic-based interventions improve, this provides the initial framework for robot-guided regional anesthesia administration in the oral cavity.

  • This study was conducted to understand the meaning and nature of the compassion fatigue experiences among nurses working in oncology wards. The participants in this study were 11 nurses who worked for at least 6 months in oncology wards. The data were collected using in-depth interviews and analyzed using the phenomenological method by Giorgi. Six categories of the meaning of compassion fatigue were derived as follows; physically difficulty, emotion is control of patient's condition, collapsing in front of cancer patients, reminding of patient-related memory, finding a changed attitude, and searching for how to recover.

  • Purpose: This concept analysis was done to clarify therapeutic intervention in nursing. Methods: For this study the process of Walker & Avant's concept analysis was used. Twenty-nine studies from electronic data bases met criteria for selection. Results: Therapeutic intervention can be defined by the following attributes: 1) goal-oriented, 2) forming a therapeutic relationship, 3) reinforcement of coping ability, 4) patient-centered, 5) a holistic integrated approach. The consequences of therapeutic intervention were improvement of quality of life, coping skills, self-care. Conclusion: Attributes of therapeutic intervention identified in this study can be applied to develop tools for measuring therapeutic nursing behaviors or to develop therapeutic nursing intervention programs for patient or family.

  • Now a days, U-healthcare comes into the spotlight as a new business model which combines RFID technology with medical service in the well-being era and IT popularization. U-healthcare service needs a method that can deals with hand-writing, overlap data, forgery and falsification of data, difference between information version that happen in medical process because of graft between RFID technology and u-healthcare. This paper proposes RFID based user certification protocol to protect user's privacy who gets medical service through U-healthcare. In the protocol, secret information of patient does the XOR with the secret key that is created in the hospital to reconsider the stability of security system of U-healthcare and user's data forgery and falsification and privacy and then saves it in the secret key field of patient in DB table. Also, it informs the case of illegal access to certification server and make it approved the access of u-healthcare service by differentiating whether u-healthcare is illegal or not.

  • This study was conducted to provide the data for the improvement of cerebral ischemia patient nursing services through the investigation of burden and hospital service satisfaction by family caregivers who were nursing the cerebral ischemia inpatients. The study subjects consisted of 125 family caregivers who were enrolled in four university hospitals with over 300 beds and one Chinese medicine hospital with over 100 beds. The Data were collected from all of the personal subjects using standardized questionnaires by interview from March 1 to March 30 in 2000. Data were analyzed by using t-test, ANOVA. Scheffe's multiple comparison, and Pearson's Correlation Coefficients. The results were as follows: 1. The mean score of burden felt by family caregivers who were nursing the stroke patient was 2.18. In relation to the characteristics of patients, higher scores were shown in male patients who were over 80 years old, and patients who had from 4 to 12 days care giving, over three month duration of admission, from one month to three month duration of illness. The burden felt by family caregivers revealed higher score of dependency in the Activities of Daily Living. 2. The mean score of hospital service satisfaction perceived by family caregivers was 3.35. The highest hospital service satisfaction score was shown in female caregivers, and caregivers whose patients graduated from element school, and treatment method was Chinese medicine, the duration of admission was under 1 month. As a result. the family caregivers' burden was seemed to be high when the patients who were old, male and as care giving time, duration of admission, duration of illness were getting longer. In conclution, hospital service satisfaction was good, but the satisfaction was tend to decrease that family caregivers who were male, higher education background and duration of patients' admission getting longer.
