  • We will put the emphasis on the analysis of arbitrarily shaped microstrip antennas. The most general and rigorous treatment of microstrip antennas is given by the electric field integral equation(EFIE), usally formulated in the spectral domain. In this paper, we use a modification of EFIE, called the mixed potential integral equation(MPIE) , and we solve it in the space domain. This technique uses Green's functions associated with the scalar and vector potential which are calculated by using stratified media theory and are expressed as Sommerfeld integrals. The integral equation is solved by a moment's method using rooftop subsectional basis function. Thus, microstrip patches of any shape can be analysed at any frequency and for any substrate. Numerical results for a rectangular patch and for a L-shaped patch are given and compared with measured values.

  • In this paper, a new model is presented which characterizs the coupling of the radiating edges between two rectangular microstrip patch antennas. This model, namely Radiating Edges-Coupling (REC) model, is derived from the equivalent circuit of the slitted parallel-plate waveguide filled with homogeneous dielectric. Applying the REC model to two coupled rectangular microstrip patch antennas, we obtain numerical S-parameter values of |$S_{11}$| and |$S_{12}$|for the various coupling separations, $S_e$=0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0mm. Theoretical results are in fairly good agreement with experimental results.

  • This study is concerned with a feeding method of microstrip patch antennas with different widths as feeding elements in order to obtain the appropriate radiation patterns of nonuniform array antennas. We analyze a microstrip patch antenna based on the transmission line model and derive that the ratio of current is equal to that of the input impedances of array antenna elements in case that the feed-line length between elements of array antenna is equal to the integer times of $\lambda_g$. We measure the radiation patterns of the nonuniform microstrip patch array antenna with 6 and 9 elements. The patterns measured are well agreed with the theoritically calculated patterns. Thus, this result can be utilized in the implementation of a feed network in nonuniform array antennas.

  • This paper describes a K-band microstrip patch antenna suitable for an adaptive cruise control(ACC) system. The presented transmitting and receiving patch antennas are designed with $1{\times}2$ array. The antennas are simulated using CST MWS and manufactured using RO-4003(h=0.5mm, ${\epsilon}r=3.38$). The antennas are installed on the backside of the sensor circuit and measured. The estimated gain and beamwidth are 8.5dBi and about $50^{\circ}$ respectively. The measured bandwidth is about 1GHz($VSWR{\le}2$) which satisfies the desired specification.

  • In this papaer, the input impedance of the rectangular microstrip patch antennas with the multilayered structure is analysed by using the moment method technique in the spectral domain. The analysis is carried out for two different feeding structures : directfeeding structure and electromagnetic-feeding structure. In order to obtain the accurate input impedance, the current distribution on the microstrip feed line is modeled by the quasi-TEM travelling wave and the PWS(piecewise sinusoidal) mode. The input impedances of the designed microstrip antennas are measured and compared with the calculation. which shows a good agreement.

  • This paper presents that photonic bandgap structures suppressing the propagation of surface waves can improve the performance of the patch antennas on a thick and high dielectric constant substrate. The forbidden propagation of surface wave due to the photonic bandgap enhances the radiation efficiency and reduces the back radiation drastically.

  • In this paper, circular polarized antennas of Tx 30GHz and Rx 20GHz are implemented in LTCC process. Tx antenna has a circular patch structure and Rx antenna has a ring patch structure. The feeding line of Tx antenna is placed in the center hole of Rx ring patch antenna which is printed under Tx circular patch antenna layer. It makes antenna size smaller. Tx antenna's return loss in under -10dB level from 30GHz to 31GHz and Rx antenna is under -10 dB from 20GHz to 21GHz. The isolation between two antennas is less than -20dB. Axial ratio is less than 3dB though out each band.

  • A theoretical study of mutual coupling effects between two H-plane coupled microstrip patch antennas is presented. The radiation resistance and slot capacitance of a single micro-strip patch are calculated. To investigate the mutual coupling effects, the even and odd mode characteristic impedance and effective dielectric constants are obtained using the coupled microstrip line model. The S-parameter matrix elements 511,512 are used to study the mutual coupling e(facts in S-band frequency ranges for various patch spacings. Theoretical results and measurements are in good agreement.

  • In this paper, a rectangular patch antenna is miniaturized by changing tile middle of patch into narrow microstrip line except the edges of the patch where the fringing field occurs. Miniaturizing rate, gain, radiation patterns of suggested antennas were compared with general square microstrip antenna by using simulator Ensemble. As a result, it reduces the size of antenna by 30% and improves the characteristic of X pol as a advantage while it reduces gain and bandwidth.

  • ″H″ type resonator has the advantage for the miniaturization of high-T7 superconducting (HTS) microstrip antenna in comparison with the conventional microstrip antenna such as rectangular type or circular type. In this paper we designed miniaturized HTS antennas using this "H"-type resonator and reported the characteristics of our antennas including return loss, bandwidth, radiation patterns, efficiency and so on. To fabricate the "H" type antenna, HTS YBa$_2$Cu$_3$$O_{7-x}$ (YBCO) thin films were deposited on MgO substrates using rf-magnetron sputtering. For comparison between normal conducting antennas and superconducting antennas, the gold antennas with the same dimension were also fabricated. An aperture coupling was used for impedance matching between 50 $\Omega$ feed line and HTS radiating patch. The ″H" type superconducting antenna showed the performance of 1.38 in SWR, 26 % in efficiency, and 13.8 dB in the return loss superior to the normal conducting counterpart.
