  • This study investigates the buckling behavior of CNTRC beams on a Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation, considering their stiffness. To achieve the highest accuracy, the shear stiffness is taken into account based on the Higher-order Shear Deformation Theory (HSDT). A novel exponential power-law distribution of the CNT volume fraction across the beam thickness is employed to model CNTRC beams. Various reinforcement patterns are incorporated into the polymer matrix, featuring single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) that are both aligned and distributed. The effective mechanical properties of the CNTRC beam are predicted using the rule of mixtures. Hamilton's principle is applied to derive the differential equations of motion. This theoretical framework enables the validation of the approach by comparing numerical simulation results with previous studies. The impact of the exponent order (n), CNT volume fraction, geometrical ratio, and Winkler-Pasternak parameters on buckling analysis is thoroughly presented and discussed. The results indicate that, among the different types of analyzed CNTRC beams, the X-Beam pattern demonstrates the highest buckling load capacity.

  • In the present work, the buckling behavior of a single-layered graphene sheet (SLGS) embedded in visco-Pasternak's medium is studied using nonlocal four-unknown integral model. This model has a displacement field with integral terms which includes the effect of transverse shear deformation without using shear correction factors. The visco-Pasternak's medium is introduced by considering the damping effect to the classical foundation model which modeled by the linear Winkler's coefficient and Pasternak's (shear) foundation coefficient. The SLGS under consideration is subjected to compressive in- plane edge loads per unit length. The influences of many parameters such as nonlocal parameter, geometric ratio, the visco-Pasternak's coefficients, damping parameter, and mode numbers on the buckling response of the SLGSs are studied and discussed.

  • This study attempts to shed light on the coupled impact of types of loading, thickness stretching, and types of variation of Winkler-Pasternak foundations on the flexural behavior of simply- supported FG plates according to the new quasi-3D high order shear deformation theory, including integral terms. A new function sheep is used in the present work. In particular, both Winkler and Pasternak layers are non-uniform and vary along the plate length direction. In addition, the interaction between the loading type and the variation of Winkler-Pasternak foundation parameters is considered and involved in the governing equilibrium equations. Using the virtual displacement principle and Navier's solution technique, the numerical results of non-dimensional stresses and displacements are computed. Finally, the non-dimensional formulas' results are validated with the existing literature, and excellent agreement is detected between the results. More importantly, several complementary parametric studies with the effect of various geometric and material factors are examined. The present analytical model is suitable for investigating the bending of simply-supported FGM plates for special technical engineering applications.

  • In this work, the bending and dynamic behaviors of advanced composite plates resting on variable visco-Pasternak foundations are studied using a simple shear deformation integral plate model. The research is carried out with a view to a three-parameter foundation including the influences of the variable Winkler coefficient, the constant Pasternak coefficient and the damping coefficient of the elastic medium. The present theory uses a displacement field with integral terms instead of derivative terms by including also the shear deformation effect without introducing the shear correction factors. The equations of motion for advanced composite plates are obtained using the Hamilton principle. Analytical solutions for the bending and dynamic analysis are deduced for simply supported plates resting on variable visco-Pasternak foundations. Some numerical results are presented to demonstrate the impact of material index, elastic foundation type, and damping coefficient of the foundation, on the bending and dynamic responses of advanced composite plates.

  • In this investigation, an improved integral trigonometric shear deformation theory is employed to examine the vibrational behavior of the functionally graded (FG) sandwich plates resting on visco-Pasternak foundations. The studied structure is modelled with only four unknowns' variables displacements functions. The simplicity of the developed model being in the reduced number of variables which was made with the help of the use of the indeterminate integral in the formulation. The current kinematic takes into consideration the shear deformation effect and does not require any shear correction factors as used in the first shear deformation theory. The equations of motion are determined from Hamilton's principle with including the effect of the reaction of the visco-Pasternak's foundation. A Galerkin technique is proposed to solve the differentials governing equations, which enables one to obtain the semi-analytical solutions of natural frequencies for various clamped and simply supported FG sandwich plates resting on visco-Pasternak foundations. The validity of proposed model is checked with others solutions found in the literature. Parametric studies are performed to illustrate the impact of various parameters as plate dimension, layer thickness ratio, inhomogeneity index, damping coefficient, vibrational mode and elastic foundation on the vibrational behavior of the FG sandwich plates.

  • This work presents a simple four-unknown refined integral plate theory for mechanical and thermal buckling behaviors of functionally graded (FG) plates resting on Visco-Pasternak foundations. The proposed refined high order shear deformation theory has a new displacement field which includes indeterminate integral variables and contains only four unknowns in which any shear correction factor not used, with even less than the conventional theory of first shear strain (FSDT). Governing equations are deduced from the principle of minimum total potential energy and a Navier type analytical solution is adopted for simply supported FG plates. The Visco-Pasternak foundations is considered by adding the impact of damping to the usual foundation model which characterized by the linear Winkler's modulus and Pasternak's foundation modulus. The accuracy of the present model is demonstrated by comparing the computed results with those available in the literature. Some numerical results are presented to show the impact of material index, elastic foundation type, and damping coefficient of the foundation, on the mechanical and thermal buckling behaviors of FG plates.

  • A study of the natural vibrations of beam resting on elastic foundation with finite number of transverse open cracks is presented. Frequency equations are derived for beams with different end restraints. Euler-Bernoulli beam on Pasternak foundation and Euler-Bernoulli beam on Pasternak foundation are investigated. The cracks are modeled by massless substitute spring. The effects of the crack location, size and its number and the foundation constants, on the natural frequencies of the beam, are investigated.

  • In the present study, free vibration of an axially functionally graded (AFG) pile embedded in Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation is analyzed within the framework of the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The material properties of the pile vary continuously in the axial direction according to the power-law form. The frequency equation is obtained by using Lagrange's equations. The unknown functions denoting the transverse deflections of the AFG pile is expressed in modal form. In this study, the effects of material variations, the parameters of the elastic foundation on the fundamental frequencies are examined. It is believed that the tabulated results will be a reference with which other researchers can compare their results.

  • Bending, buckling and free vibration responses of functionally graded (FG) higher-order beams resting on two parameter (Winkler-Pasternak) elastic foundation are studied using a new inverse hyperbolic beam theory. The material properties of the beam are graded along the thickness direction according to the power-law distribution. In the present theory, the axial displacement accounts for an inverse hyperbolic distribution, and the transverse shear stress satisfies the traction-free boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the beams. Hamilton's principle is employed to derive the governing equations of motion. Navier type analytical solutions are obtained for the bending, bucking and vibration problems. Numerical results are obtained to investigate the effects of power-law index, length-to-thickness ratio and foundation parameter on the displacements, stresses, critical buckling loads and frequencies. Numerical results by using parabolic beam theory of Reddy and first-order beam theory of Timoshenko are specially generated for comparison of present results and found in excellent agreement with each other.

  • This work presents an efficient and original hyperbolic shear deformation theory for the bending and dynamic behavior of functionally graded (FG) beams resting on Winkler - Pasternak foundations. The theory accounts for hyperbolic distribution of the transverse shear strains and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the surfaces of the beam without using shear correction factors. Based on the present theory, the equations of motion are derived from Hamilton's principle. Navier type analytical solutions are obtained for the bending and vibration problems. The accuracy of the present solutions is verified by comparing the obtained results with the existing solutions. It can be concluded that the present theory is not only accurate but also simple in predicting the bending and vibration behavior of functionally graded beams.
