  • RFID technology is considered as a promising solution to increase efficiency of port logistics. Especially active RFID technology, such as e-Seal for container security, is receiving attention nowadays. If active RFID system is combined with passive RFID and legacy bar-code system overall efficiency of port logistics can be improved However, due to the device dependent control interface of RFID readers, there are many difficulties in making active-passive combined RFID system environment. In this paper, we introduce Smart Reader Interface (SRI) system, which provides a device independent RFID reader interrace to control different kinds of RFID readers by hiding device dependent control interface through adapter architecture which is similar to device driver of conventional operating systems. The key design objectives of SRI are the followings; conformance to the related standard. efficiency in processing, easy addition of an adapter for a new RFID reader. Actually, the implemented SRI system can support various kinds of commercial RFID readers, and through the test carried out not only in laboratory but also in the container terminal in the GwangYang Port, its practicality is verified.

  • SAW (Surface Acoustic Waves) ID (identification) tags have been designed and implemented for RFID (Radio frequency IDentification) systems. With SAW ID tag of pulse position encoding method, the data capacity increased 3 times compared with SAW ID tag of amplitude on/off method. Two different kinds of SAW ID tag receiver systems, heterodyne and homodyne receiver systems, were made. The direct conversion receiver showed better isolation property, 10 dB improvement than the heterodyne receiver to increase wireless interrogation distance.

  • In this research, we investigate an influence of a reader antenna location in Passive UHF RFID system based Object localization. When the localization system uses stationary RFID reader system, the performances of the system are significantly varied depending on the deployed antenna conditions due to its external environment such as reflection by the ground and obstacles. In this research we deeply study the RF conditions and differentiation with various antenna location. According to the empirical results, the localization system shows the best performance, where the reader antenna locates 1.5m from the target area of interest.

  • Radio frequency identification (RFID) tags are cheap, simple devices that can store unique identification information and perform simple computation to keep better inventory of packages. Because of this, they are intended to replace the barcodes for supply chain management in the near future. However, unlike barcodes, these tags have a longer range in which they are allowed to be scanned, subjecting them to unauthorized scanning by malicious readers and to various attacks. Therefore, a security protocol for RFID tags is needed to ensure privacy and authentication between each tag and their reader. In order to accomplish this, in this paper, we proposed a lightweight privacy and authentication protocol for passive RFID tags.

  • Recently, a considerable number of studies have been made on the $RFID^{[1-6]}$ systems. RFID is a technique of identifying an object using radio frequency transmission. The technology can be used to identify, track, sort or detect a wide variety of objects. The RFID system is composed of two main elements: a reader and a tag. Tags can either be active (powered by battery) or passive (powered by the reader field). The passive tags communicate back to the reader with a technique called 'backscatter'. RFID technology can be applied to the supply chain, security, logistics industry and etc. Especially, UHF RFID is worth noticing because of its relatively long identification range and commercial UHF RFID systems are under development. In this paper, we designed and implemented a UHF RFID reader firmware for ISO/IEC 18000-6 Type B specification.

  • RFID is a very important interface technology in a ubiquitous computing that is called new computing paradigms. that is, we can handle the data updating, recognizing and processing easily using a integrated the network and RFID technology in a ubiquitous computing. Therefore, we propose a business adminstration system that can able to change the passive management structure to active management structure in a u-business administration using RFID technology of ubiquitous computing. Proposed system has management server function that handle recording and management of information by business administration to improve structure of legacy passive management system actively, so that supply effect of reduce manpower and cost for the manager, and offer easy interface to user at the same time.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of a passive transponder chip for RFID applications. Passive transponders do not have their own power supply, and therefore all power required for the operation of a passive transponder must be drawn from the field of the reader. The designed transponder consists of a full wave rectifier to generate a dc supply voltage, a 128-bit mask ROM to store the information, and Manchester coding and load modulation circuits to be used for transmitting the information from the transponder to the reader. The transponder with a size 410 x 900 ${\mu}$m$^2$ has been fabricated using 0.65 ${\mu}$m 2-poly, 2-metal CMOS process. The measurement results show the data transmission rate of 3.9 kbps at RF frequency 125 kHz.

  • In this paper, we propose a general idea about an RFID system which provides lighted weight algorithm. We discuss how RFID could be applied for this kind of system, especially, compact protocol. We evaluate a few protocols that have been suggested for use in passive RFID tagged systems. We can reduce security computation without losing security features by message integration and pre-computation in this paper. And the proposed protocol can be used in low-cost RFID systems that require a small computational load for both the back-end database and the tags.

  • The metal-ferroelectric-metal (MFM) capacitor in the ferroelectric random access memory (FeRAM) embedded RFID chip is used in both the memory cell region and the peripheral analog and digital circuit area for capacitance parameter control. The capacitance value of the MFM capacitor is about 30 times larger than that of conventional capacitors, such as the poly-insulator-poly (PIP) capacitor and the metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitor. An MFM capacitor directly stacked over the analog and memory circuit region can share the layout area with the circuit region; thus, the chip size can be reduced by about 60%. The energy transformation efficiency using the MFM scheme is higher than that of the PIP scheme in RFID chips. The radio frequency operational signal properties using circuits with MFM capacitors are almost the same as or better than with PIP, MIM, and MOS capacitors. For the default value specification requirement, the default set cell is designed with an additional dummy cell.
