Methods: The participants were 310 students by convenience sampling in G city. The data were collected through a questionnaire given to the students between September 10 to November 6, 2006. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression were used to analyze the data. Results: The mean score for the level of health promoting behaviors and optimism was 2.60(${\pm} .31$) and 2.70(${\pm} .55$) respectively. The most frequently used coping skill was the pursuit of social support. There were positive correlations between health promoting behaviors and optimism, between health promoting behaviors and active coping skill, and between health promoting behaviors and passive coping skill. In stepwise multiple regression analysis, the most powerful predictor of health promoting behaviors was active coping skill. • This study has attempted to find the teaching methods for the elementary students with low science achievement by examining the differences of science learning motivation, academic stress and stress coping styles and the characteristics shown in the relationship between them. To achieve this, the differences of science learning motivation, academic stress and stress coping styles of the elementary students with low science achievement and their relationship was set up as a study problem. A science learning motivation using a science learning motivation questionnaire reconfigured with PALS along with underachievers diagnosis were measured targeting 660 elementary students located in Seoul. Using an academic stress questionnaire and stress coping style questionnaire, an academic stress and stress coping styles were measured. The results of analyzing the collected data are as follows. First, a science learning motivation of elementary students with low science achievement was lower than the general students but the academic stress was shown higher. Especially, the self-efficacy of science learning motivation was significantly lower and the school stress was highest. For stress coping styles, a tendency of passive and avoidment coping styles were shown higher than the general students. Second, among the science learning motivation of elementary students with low science achievement, the self-efficacy motivation and school stress have shown a negative correlation but had a positive correlation with the goal-oriented motivation centered on ability. In the correlation between the science learning motivation of elementary students with low science achievement and the stress coping styles, the pursuit of social support coping styles have shown a significant positive correlation with the science learning motivation and its subcategories. As a result of conducting a regression analysis on the influence of academic stress and stress copying styles on the science learning motivation of elementary students with low science achievement, among the academic stresses, the school stress was shown to have the biggest influence. Among the stress coping styles, the pursuit of social support coping styles had the biggest influence on the science learning motivation followed by active coping behaviors, passive and avoidment coping behaviors. Low science learning motivation as underachievement factors of elementary students with low science achievement was identified as having a relationship with high school stress and undesirable stress copying styles. Therefore, guidance and a program are required for the elementary student with low science achievement to have desirable stress coping methods on the stressful situations. In addition, for the improvement of science learning motivation, a learning environment is needed for the elementary students with low science achievement with seeking of relevant educational methods.

  • The present research investigated and compared stress coping strategies of North Korean refugees with those of South Koreans in the purpose to predict and prepare psychological conflicts expected to occur during the Korean reunification. Adapted from Han, Hur, Chae, and Kim(2001), North Korean refugees recorded their coping strategies that they would employ in stressful situations varying in term of three aspects of stress causes - 2(locus: internal/external) × 2(stability: temporal/enduring) × 2(context: individual/interpersonal) - and the responses were classified in terms of three dimensions(active/passive, approach/avoidance, cognitive/affective/behavioral). In the temporal stress situations, adaptive North Korean refugees preferred active over passive, approaching over avoiding, and behavioral over cognitive/affective stress coping strategies more than maladaptive North Korean refugees did. Also, in the stressful situations caused by external causes, they were more likely to take active rather than passive, approaching rather than avoiding copying. Although active copying strategies were preferred to passive ones by adaptive North Korean refugees in individual stressful situations, approaching copying strategies were preferred to avoiding ones by them in interpersonal stressful situations. These findings were found to be different from the pattern of South Korean's stress coping strategies in the same situations. In conclusion, the differences were discussed in the view of psychological integration during Korean reunification.

Data were collected using Korean Mental Health Continuum Short Form scale, and the ways of coping checklist modified from 301 undergraduate students in 4 universities in Busan and through online, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$ test, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficients with SPSS/WIN 21.0. On average, mental health level was 35.6 out of 70 points, and the students using SNS use more active coping than passive coping as way of stress coping. The factors showed significant relationships with mental health were gender, and number of person contacted on offline within online counterparts, and with problem-focused coping were gender, preferred types of SNS, period of use, and hours per day on SNS, with social support seeking were preferred types of SNS, hours per day on SNS, and number of online counterparts, with emotion-focused coping were grade, instruments types for using SNS, and hours per day on SNS and with wishful thought were instruments types for using SNS, and hours per day on SNS. There was a positive correlation between mental health and stress coping type. Based on the results, future research needs to develop positive SNS usage strategies to improve the mental well-being and ways of coping in undergraduate students.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of foodservice employees' workplace harassment on their coping styles and intention to leave. Based on total 374 foodservice employees obtained from the empirical research, this study reviewed reliability and fitness of research model and verified total 3 hypotheses. SEM was conducted to test the validity of the proposed model and the hypotheses. The structural model provided an adequate fit to the data, $x^2=1,344.862$ (p<.001), df=420, GFI=.839, IFI=.900, CFI=.900, RMSEA=.076. To examine how employees' workplace harassment affects coping with harassment; workplace harassment had a significant effect on self-doubt (${\beta}=.401$, p<.001), ignored bully doubt (${\beta}=.621$, p<.001), and indirect or passive doubt (${\beta}=.527$, p<.001); whereas problem solving (${\beta}=-.094$, p>.05) did not. Furthermore, employees' workplace harassment (${\beta}=.126$, p<.05) had no significant effect on intention to leave. Employees' coping with harassment had a significant effect on intention to leave; especifically, among employees' coping with harassment elements, problem solving(${\beta}=-.572$; p<.001), self-doubt (${\beta}=.369$, p<.001), indirect or passive (${\beta}=.239$, p<.001), and ignored bully (${\beta}=-.161$, p<.01) had a significant effect on intention to leave. • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships of ego-resilience, stress coping styles and disposition to delinquency in middle school students. Method: The data were collected from October 15 to October 30, 2005. The subjects were 223 middle school students in 2nd grade in G city. To determine the most effective variable of ego-resilience to stress coping styles and disposition to delinquency, the dada were analyzed using Canonical correlation with SAS 9.1 TS, and Pearson's correlation with percentages, means, standard deviations with SPSS 14.0 K. Result: Ego-resilience showed a significant positive correlation with active coping styles and a significant negative correlation with passive coping styles, and disposition to delinquency. Canonical correlation analysis of 5 sub-domains of ego-resilience showed that curiosity made the highest contribution to predicting stress coping styles and vitality made the highest contribution in predicting disposition to delinquency in middle school students. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that the development of ego-resilience for adolescents is important to improve stress coping strategies and decrease delinquency. Therefore, to increase ego-resilience, Stress Coping Programs should include curiosity and Delinquency Intervention Programs should include vitality.
