  • In this paper, a size-reduced Wilkinson balun with wide harmonic-suppressed band is presented. An accurate analysis of the parallel coupled line with an open stub (PCL-OS) is carried out. The PCL-OS structure shows excellent low pass filter and harmonic-suppression characteristics, which is useful for designing a low pass filter unit cell (LUC) with a reduced size. The designed Wilkinson balun at a 2.45 GHz center frequency not only shows an excellent harmonic suppression including the 5th harmonics up to 14 GHz over 15 dB, but it also has an area reduced to 48% of the conventional one.

  • A multi-layer ceramic (MLC) chip type band-pass filter (BPF) is presented. The MLC chip BPF has the benefits of low cost and small size. The BPF consists of coulped stripline resonators and coupling capacitors. The BPF is designed to have an attenuation pole at below the passband for a receiver band of IMT-2000 handset. The computer-aided design technology is applied for analysis of the BPF frequency characteristics. The passband and attenuation pole depend on the coupling between resonators and coupling capacitance. The frequency characterics of the passband and attenuation pole are analyzed with the variation of the coupling between resonators and coupling capacitance. An equivanlent circuit and structure of MLC chip BPF are proposed. The frequency characteristics of the BPF is well acceptable for IMT-2000 application.

  • A new log-domain first-order multifunction filter is proposed in this letter. The proposed filter is systematically derived using the state-space synthesis procedure from a corresponding block diagram. It provides low-pass (LP), high-pass (HP), and all-pass (AP) responses simultaneously for a single input signal. The filter circuit has a very simple structure since it uses only bipolar junction transistors (BJTs) and a grounded capacitor. It can be electronically tuned by changing an external current. The filter has a greater bandwidth due to its inherent current-mode and log-domain operations. PSPICE simulations are given to confirm the theoretical analysis.

  • The variable frequency and variable voltage AC source made by a conventional inverter which is composed of power semi-conductors includes much noises in sine wave due to high frequency switching of DC source. In this paper the 3rd low pass LC filter for a variable speed 3 phase induction motor driven by a full bridge inverter is introduced to solve the EMI problem by serious noise current. The utility of a modified 3rd order Butterworth LC filter is confirmed through FFT analysis of sine waves and noiseless ACsource can be obtained by the proposed LC filter. The speed of a 3 phase induction motor driven by a full bridge inverter with a LC filter is satisfactorily controlled by a digital PID controller under the condition of stepwise load and setpoint changes.

  • Since the characteristic frequency is decreased in proportion to the fault distance, the characteristic frequency component may be insufficiently eliminated by a low-pass filter on a long transmission line. In order to set a standard for the cut-off frequency of the low-pass filter, this paper proposes a method for obtaining the characteristic frequencies due to line faults. The application results of the proposed method are presented for line to ground (LG) faults and line to line (LL) faults on a 345 kV 200 km overhead transmission line. The EMTP is used to generate fault signals under different fault locations and fault inception angles. By comparison between the characteristic frequencies obtained from the proposed method and the EMTP simulation, it is shown that the proposed method accurately obtains the characteristic frequency.

  • This paper proposes a compensation algorithm for reducing a specific ripple component on synchronous reference frame phase locked loop (SRF-PLL) in grid-tied single-phase inverters. In general, SRF-PLL, which is based on all-pass filter to generate virtual voltage, is widely used to estimate the grid phase angle in a single-phase system. In reality, the estimated grid phase angle might be distorted because the phase difference between actual and virtual voltages is not 90 degrees. That is, the phase error is caused by the difference between cut-off frequency of all-pass filter and grid frequency under grid frequency variation. Therefore, the effects on phase angle and output current attributed to the phase error are mathematically analyzed in this paper. In addition, the proportional resonant (PR) controller is adapted to reduce the effects of phase error. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified through several simulations and experiments.

  • As the software development cycles is getting shorter, the software reusability is emphasized accordingly. Specifically, the design reusability is being recognized as one of the most important factor to increase the software quality and productivity and make the maintenance cost down. Two essential abilities are needed to improve the design reusability. One is the identification of the reusable objects, and the other is the organization of the relationships among the objects. However, the existing methods using such as a grammatical analysis, a scenario matching and a unit of design problems(design pattern) have not been proposed proper principles to identify the reusable objects on the basis of the abstraction which is the core of the object-oriented concept. In this paper, we will offer the Two-Pass abstraction principle based in the abstraction concept.

  • Reduction of the propagation noise generated during pass-by of KTX by noise barrier was measured and analysed fur the two kinds of top-shaped noise reduction devices; one as a plywood board and the other as a PVC pipe were placed periodically. The height and length of reference noise barrier are 2.4 m and 50 m, respectively. The noise reduction with and without noise reduction devices was investigated. (omitted)

  • The dielectric material is a basic element which impacts considerably on a microstrip structure performances. This project demonstrates how filter performances such as gain, bandwidth, return loss and insertion loss change proportionally with substrate material variation. The RT/Duroid 5880 and the FR-4 are two dielectric materials proposed as substrates of a low pass microstrip filter. The design and simulation are done on ADS software. The transmission and reflection characteristics show that the RT/ Duroid 5880 as a dielectric substrate permits to obtain better performance as compared to the FR-4 substrate.

  • The heat transfer and pressure loss characteristics of a rotating two-pass channel with a guide vane in the turning region have been studied using three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) analysis, and the shape of the guide vane has been optimized using surrogate modeling optimization technique. For the optimization, thickness, location and angle of the guide vanes have been selected as design variables. The objective function has been defined as a linear combination of the heat transfer and the friction loss related terms with a weighting factor. Latin hypercube sampling has been applied to determine the design points as design of experiments. A weighted-average surrogate model, PBA has been used as the surrogate model. The guide vane in the turning region does not influence the heat transfer in the first passage upstream of the turning region, but enhances largely the heat transfer in the turning region and the second passage. In an example of the optimization, the objective function has been increased by 13.6%.
