Background: The Korean government launched a project in 2008, where the amount of rice used as raw ingredient in rice-based foods in 2012 was planned to increase up to 10% (470,000 ton) of the total rice production through developing various new rice-based processed foods and their commercial manufacturing technology. Among the four major rice-based processed foods, rice cakes and noodles need rice flour as their main raw ingredient. Technology in rice flour utilization and manufacturing is far behind than the technology pertinent to wheat flour in many subject areas. Purpose: This review aims to provide information on rice flour utilization and manufacturing with some fundamental subjects in the area of size reduction. Results: A variety of food items including bread, noodle, cake, cookie, muffin, pre-mix, beverage, vinegar, surimi, and artificial meat have found rice flour as their raw ingredient. Rice bread made out of 100% rice flour has been developed and is now sold in retail stores. Various noodle products made from rice flour are also on the market. Issues on product definition and labeling regulation about rice flour content of the products were explored. Generalized grinding equations available in the literature were seldom used in practice; instead, it has been a general practice to develop empirical equations from test milling data. Introductory remarks on three popular particle size measurement methods (sieving, Coulter counter, light diffraction) were explained. Mathematical expressions frequently used to describe particle size distribution and to correlate cumulative quantity of particles with particle size were represented. Milling methods used in producing rice flour were described along with their advantages and disadvantages. Because of their profound effect on functional properties of the rice flour, four rice flour milling equipments used at both laboratory experiments and commercial manufacturing plants were discussed.
Porous alumina ceramics were fabricated by pseudo-boehmite phydosol-gel process within/without commercial $\alpha$-alumina particles average 1 and 40 micron respectively. The pore characteristics of fired specimens were studied by the measurement of bulk density total porosity thyermal analysis pore volume pore distribution BET area XRD and SEM. with increasing of firing temperature pore volume and BET surface area were decreased and the average pore size was increased to approximately 146$\AA$ upto 80$0^{\circ}C$ by de-watering of [OH] and formation of $\alpha$-alumina. The fired relative density of the alumina-dispersed specimen with average 1 micron particle was increased with the amounts of dispersed particle by bimodal packing theory which is compared to the ones of specimen including of average 40 micron particle. It was confirmed that the percola-tion threshold in porous ceramics with coarser particle (40 micron) has formed between the transformed-alumina from hydrogel and dispersed-alumina of above 50 vol% particle and the total porosity was increased at the threshold point above.
For a reasonable analysis of grade efficiency of cyclone separator, in-line measurements of particle size and particle concentration are needed. The purpose of this study is to define the correlation of measurement data and to measure grade efficiency and pressure drop. The authors adapted that the grade efficiency could be calculated directly from the counted particle numbers. The problem of collection efficiency calculation was different from counting rate of aerosol counters under the same conditions. It is important factor to use the rate of the particle counters to obtain reliable results. Therefore, the authors should use and calculate compensation factor considering sensitivity of aerosol counters, gas velocity and concentration affect higher 30% than originally measured grade efficiency. As the pressure drop and grade efficiency increase, as flow rate increase and then also pressure drop and grade efficiency increase.

This study was carried out to monitor the visibility including measurement and analysis of the various parameters such as particle size distribution, chemical composition, and meteorotical conditions to understand the characteristics and causes of this phenomenon. According to the analysis of intensive sampling, $SO_4^{2-}, NO-3^-, Cl^-, NH_4^+$ ion concentration increased together with the mass concentration around 1 $\mu$m in the case of low visibility. $(NH_4)_2SO_4, NH_4NO_3$, and $NH_4Cl$ were thought to be the major components of fine particles. The statistical analysis showed that the scattering effect of particle was 81.2%, the absorption effect was 14.9%. Therefore, these effects were the major factors to reduce the visibility. In conclusion, the visibility was reduced by the fine particle of sulfate (18.6%), nitrate (14.2%), organic carbon (10.8%), element carbon (25.8%), and residual (24.8%) during this study.

In this study, the performance improvement of epoxy resin system had been tried by the improvement of particle size distribution and globularization of filler using polymerization method. From the results of particle size distribution measurement, the polydispersity value of reformed filler was 1.04 and that of silica flour before reformation was 2.6, it could be confirmed that the particle size uniformity of reformed filler had been improved greatly and the shape of particle was globular. Compatibility between monomer and silica was improved remarkably with the silanization pretreatment of silica flour. From the results of degree of crosslinking test, it could be confirmed that the binding structure of reformed filler was 3-dimensional net structure. And it could be also confirmed that the fluidness was improved at the casting of epoxy resin with reformed filler. From the above results, it could be concluded that the reformation of filler with the improvement of particle size distribution and globularization was very successful method to improve the performance of cast epoxy resin system.

Objectives: Dustiness of nanomaterials is considered as exposure index of essential material. Research on dustiness of nanomaterial is needed to control exposure in workplaces. Method: Dustiness measurement using vortex shaker were installed in the laboratory. Nanomaterials, 1 g, was put in the glass test tube and shaked using vortex shaker. Aerosol dispersed was measured using scanning mobility particle sizer(SMPS) and optical particle counter(OPC). Mass concentration using PVC filter and cassette was measured and TEM grid sampling was conducted. Total particle concentration and size distribution were calculated. Image and chemical composition of particles in the air were observed using transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer. Eleven different test nanomaterials were used in the study. Results: Rank of mass concentration and particle number concentration were coincided in most cases. Rank of nanomateirals with low concentration were not coincided. Two types of fumed silica had the highest mass concentration and particle number concentration. Indium tin oxide, a mixture of indium oxide and tin oxide, had high mass concentration and particle number concentration. Indium oxide had very low mass concentration and particle number concentration. Agglomeration of nanoparticles in the air were observed in TEM analysis and size distribution. In this study, mass concentration and particle number concentration were coincided and two index can be used together. The range of dustiness in particle number concentration were too wide to measure in one method. Conclusion: Particle number concentration ranged from low concentration to high concentration depend on type of nanomaterial, and varied by preparation and amount of nanomaterial used. Further study is needed to measure dustiness of all nanomaterial as one reference method.

The temperature dependence of the effective magnetic anisotropy constant K(T) of ferrite nanoparticles is obtained based on the measurements of SQUID magnetometry. For this end, a very simple but intuitive and direct method for determining the temperature dependence of anisotropy constant K(T) in nanoparticles is introduced in this study. The anisotropy constant at a given temperature is determined by associating the particle size distribution f(r) with the anisotropy energy barrier distribution $f_A(T)$. In order to estimate the particle size distribution f(r), the first quadrant part of the hysteresis loop is fitted to the classical Langevin function weight-averaged with the log?normal distribution, slightly modified from the original Chantrell's distribution function. In order to get an anisotropy energy barrier distribution $f_A(T)$, the temperature dependence of magnetization decay $M_{TD}$ of the sample is measured. For this measurement, the sample is cooled from room temperature to 5 K in a magnetic field of 100 G. Then the applied field is turned off and the remanent magnetization is measured on stepwise increasing the temperature. And the energy barrier distribution $f_A(T)$ is obtained by differentiating the magnetization decay curve at any temperature. It decreases with increasing temperature and finally vanishes when all the particles in the sample are unblocked. As a next step, a relation between r and $T_B$ is determined from the particle size distribution f(r) and the anisotropy energy barrier distribution $f_A(T)$. Under the simple assumption that the superparamagnetic fraction of cumulative area in particle size distribution at a temperature is equal to the fraction of anisotropy energy barrier overcome at that temperature in the anisotropy energy barrier distribution, we can get a relation between r and $T_B$, from which the temperature dependence of the magnetic anisotropy constant was determined, as is represented in the inset of Fig. 1. Substituting the values of r and $T_B$ into the $N{\acute{e}}el$-Arrhenius equation with the attempt time fixed to $10^{-9}s$ and measuring time being 100 s which is suitable for conventional magnetic measurement, the anisotropy constant K(T) is estimated as a function of temperature (Fig. 1). As an example, the resultant effective magnetic anisotropy constant K(T) of manganese ferrite decreases with increasing temperature from $8.5{\times}10^4J/m^3$ at 5 K to $0.35{\times}10^4J/m^3$ at 125 K. The reported value for K in the literatures is $0.25{\times}10^4J/m^3$. The anisotropy constant at low temperature region is far more than one order of magnitude larger than that at 125 K, indicative of the effects of inter?particle interaction, which is more pronounced for smaller particles.
The worldwide focus on reducing the emissions, fuel and lubricant consumption in T-GDI engines is leading engineers to consider the crankcase ventilation and oil mist separation system as an important means of control. In today's passenger cars, the oil mist separation systems mainly use the inertia effect (e.g. labyrinth, cyclone etc.). Therefore, this study has investigated high efficiency cylinder head-integrated oil-mist separator by using a compact multi-impactor type oil mist separator system to ensure adequate oil mist separation performance. For this purpose, engine dynamometer testing with oil particle efficiency measurement equipment and 3D two-phase flow simulation have been performed for various engine operating conditions. Tests with an actual engine on a dynamometer showed oil aerosol particle size distributions varied depending on operating conditions. For instance, high rpm and load increases bot only blow-by gases but the amount of small size oil droplets. Submicron-sized particles (less than 0.5 ㎛) were also observed. It is also found that the impactor type separator is able to separate nearly no droplets of diameter lower than 3 ㎛. CFD results showed that the complex aerodynamics processes that lead to strong impingement and break-up can strip out large droplets and generate more small size droplets.
This study is focussed on the investigation of spray characteristics from the high pressure gasoline injector for the application of gasoline direct injection engine. For the analysis of spray structure of high pressure gasoline injector; the laser scattering method with a Nd-Yag laser and the Phase Doppler particle analyzer system were applied to observe the spray development and the measurement of the droplet size and velocity of the spray, respectively. Also spatial velocity distribution of the spray droplet was measured by use of the particle image velocity system. Experimental results show that high pressure gasoline injector shapes the hollow-cone spray, and produce the upward ring shaped vortex on the spray surface region. This upward ring shaped vortex promotes the secondary atomization of fuel droplets and contributes to a uniform distribution of fuel droplets. Most of fuel droplets are distributed under 31$\mu m$ of the mean droplet size (SMD) and the frequency distribution of the droplet size under 25$\mu m$ is over 95% at 7 MPa of injection pressure. According to the experimental results of PIV system, the flow patterns of the droplets velocity distribution in spray region are in good agreement with the spray macroscopic behaviors obtained from the visualization investigation.

The impact force on the single and overlap region of twin spray was experimentally evaluated using visualization method in full cone type swirl nozzle spray. Visualization of spray was conducted to obtain the spray angle and breakup process. The photography/imaging technique, based on Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) using high-speed camera, was adopted for the direct observation of droplet motion and axial velocity measurement, respectively. Droplet size was measured by Particle Motion Analyze System (PMAS). The purpose of this study is to provide fundamental information of spray characteristics, such as impact force, for higher etching factor in the practical wet etching system. It was found that the spray angle, axial velocity and impact force were increased with increasing the nozzle pressure while droplet size decreased with increasing the nozzle pressure. Droplet size increased as the distance from nozzle tip was decreased. The impact force of twin spray in the overlap region was about 63.29, 67.02, 52.41% higher than that of single spray at 40, 50 and 60 mm of nozzle pitch, respectively. Also, the nozzle pitch was one of the important factors in the twin spray characteristics.
