In particle radiotherapy, a shape of the beam to conform the irradiation field is statically defined by the compensator, collimator and potal devices at the outside of the patient body. However the target such as lung or liver cancer moves along with respiration. This increases the irradiated volume of normal tissue. Prior discussions about organ motions along with respiration have been mainly focused on inferior-superior movement that was usually perpendicular to beam axis. On the other hand, the change of the target depth along the beam axis is very important especially in particle radiotherapy, because the range end of beam (Bragg peak) is so sharp as to be matched to distal edge of the target. In treatment planning, the range of the particle beam inside the body is calculated using a calibration curve relating CT number and water equivalent path length (WEL) to correct the inhomogeneities of tissues. The variation in CT number along the beam path would cause the uncertainties of range calculation at treatment planning for particle radiotherapy. To estimate the uncertainties of the range calculation associated with patient breathing, we proposed the method using sequential CT images with respiration waveform, and analyzed organ motions and WELs at patients that had lung or liver cancer. The variation of the depth along the beam path was presented in WEL rather than geometrical length. In analyzed cases, WELs around the diaphragm were remarkably changed depending on the respiration, and the magnitude of these WEL variations was almost comparable to inferior-superior movement of diaphragm. The variation of WEL around the lung was influenced by heartbeat.
This study estimated the behavior(movement) characteristics of floating marine debris flowing in the Nakdong River Estuary using a simple numerical particle-tracking model. This numerical experiment considered the maximum water discharge outflow from the Nakdong River barrage during the passage of typhoon Maemi in 2003. The simulation showed that the particle distribution and movement of floating marine debris in the Nakdong River Estuary reached a stable state at 72 hours after the typhoon had passed, during the flαxl period of river discharge. The quantity of floating particles distributed on the east coast of Gadeok and Jinu Islands increased by 40% at 33 hours after starting the model, while the change in other sea areas was $20{\sim}40%$.
This paper Proposes a new couple particle swarm optimization (CPSO) for multimodal functions. In this method, main particles are generated uniformly using Faure-sequences, and move accordingly to cognition only model. If any main particle detects the movement direction which has local optimum, this particle would create a new particle beside itself and make a couple. After that, all couples move accordingly to conventional particle swarm optimization (PSO) model. If these couples tend toward the same local optimum, only the best couple would be kept and the others would be eliminated. We had applied this method to some analytic multimodal functions and successfully locate all local optima.

Particle-in-cell method which blends Eulerian grids and Lagrangian particle is utilized to solve simplified hall-effect thruster. Since this study individually tracks not only neutrons and ions but also electrons, message passing interface(mpi) scheme is adopted for parallel computer cluster. Helical movement of an electron cloud in constant magnetic field is validated comparing with an exact solution. A plasma in radial magnetic field and axial electric field in a reaction cylinder is established. Electrons do double helix movement and are well anchored in a cylinder. Ionization of neutrons by impact with high-speed electrons generates ion particles. They are accelerated by axial electric field, which forms a plume of a plasma-effect thruster.
Transport of bed load and suspended particle in coastal waters is main factor causing change in shoreline, and effective measurement method and appropriate equipment is required. To measure bed load and suspended particle transport an equipment was designed and manufactured, and it was applied in the field. The equipment consists of four main elements, body supporter, bed load and suspended particle sampler, sampler support and lock. Eight samplers were installed along the circumference of each supporter, and each sample is a 45-degree intervals. The field experiment was done once along Gyeongpo beach in August 2013. This note described the design and function of the equipment and results of field experiments.

This paper describes an implementation of automatic mutual localization of swarm robots using a particle filter. Each robot determines the location of the other robots using wireless sensors. The measured data will be used for determination of the movement method of the robot itself. It also affects the other robots' self-arrangement into formations such as circles and lines. We discuss the problem of a circle formation enclosing a target that moves. This method is the solution for enclosing an invader in a circle formation based on mutual localization of the multi-robot without infrastructure. We use trilateration, which does require knowing the value of the coordinates of the reference points. Therefore, specifying the enclosure point based on the number of robots and their relative positions in the coordinate system. A particle filter is used to improve the accuracy of the robot's location. The particle filter is operates better for mutual location of robots than any other estimation algorithms. Through the experiments, we show that the proposed scheme is stable and works well in real environments.
Local deformations in back filling materials of two sands and one glass bead with different particle shapes behind a rigid retaining wall were studied. Two kinds of boundary conditions were compared: active wall translation and active rotation of the wall about its toe. Effect of the speed of active wall translation was also investigated. The digital image correlation method was used to analyze local deformation developments inside the materials. Test results showed that particle shape and density mainly influence the inclination angle and width of the shear band. The general shear band pattern is strongly dependent on the wall movement mode, while it was little influenced by particle shape. Within a limited range of wall speed in this study, shear band became wider and local deformation became larger with increase of wall speed.
This paper presented an investigation of macromolecular suspension in a grooved channel by using the dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) with finitely extensible non-linear elastic (FENE) bead spring chains model. Before studying the movement and evolution of macromolecules, the DPD method was first validated by modeling the simple fluid flow in the grooved channel. For both simple fluid flow and macromolecular suspension, the flow fields were analyzed in detail. It is found that the structure of the grooved channel with sudden contraction and expansion strongly affects the velocity distribution. As the width of the channel reduces, the horizontal velocity increases simultaneously. Vortices can also be found at the top and bottom corners behind the contraction section. For macromolecular suspension, the macromolecular chains influence velocity and density distribution rather than the temperature and pressure. Macromolecules tend to drag simple fluid particles, reducing the velocity with density and velocity fluctuations. Particle trajectories and evolution of macromolecular conformation were investigated. The structure of the grooved channel with sudden contraction and expansion significantly influence the evolution of macromolecular conformation, while macromolecules display adaptivity to adjust their own conformation and angle to suit the structure so as to pass the channel smoothly.
In the past decades, several algorithms based on evolutionary approaches have been proposed for solving job shop scheduling problems (JSP), which is well-known as one of the most difficult combinatorial optimization problems. Most of them have concentrated on finding optimal solutions of a single objective, i.e., makespan, or total weighted tardiness. However, real-world scheduling problems generally involve multiple objectives which must be considered simultaneously. This paper proposes an efficient particle swarm optimization based approach to find a Pareto front for multi-objective JSP. The objective is to simultaneously minimize makespan and total tardiness of jobs. The proposed algorithm employs an Elite group to store the updated non-dominated solutions found by the whole swarm and utilizes those solutions as the guidance for particle movement. A single swarm with a mixture of four groups of particles with different movement strategies is adopted to search for Pareto solutions. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated on a set of benchmark problems and compared with the results from the existing algorithms. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is capable of providing a set of diverse and high-quality non-dominated solutions.

This study examines groundwater movement system analysis and movement forecast algorithm using finite element method. The target is Cheongha-myeon area, Bukgu, Pohang-city which has many difficulties in water supply during drought period. From the comparison of the differences between obtained values by WINFlOW model and observed values, it is thought that groundwater head distribution under steady flow is reflected well at the level of reliability Groundwater movement of study area shows stable pattern from western watershed to eastern coastal area while flow path is dense and steep in the center of the coastal area. The results of particle tracing for each well show a comparatively straight line from the western boundary side to the observation position at the upper area of the well, and are analyzed as it diffuses according to getting closer to the coast at the lower area of the well. The result of effect circle examination attendant on pumping amount in study area shows variation tendency that groundwater head decreases at the side and the lower area more than at the upper area of the well when groundwater flows from west to east(coast). As mentioned above, satisfactory results of groundwater movement analysis using WINFlOW model, two dimensional groundwater movement analysis model, are obtained through the great decrease of physical uncertainty of groundwater movement system.
