The demands for reliable particle cloud temperature measurement exist in many process industries and scientific researches. Particle cloud temperature measurements depend on radiation thermometry at two or more color bands. In this study, we developed a sensitive, fast response and compact online infrared two-color probe to measure the temperature of a particle cloud in a phase of two field flow (solid-gas). The probe employs a detector contained two InGaAs photodiodes with different spectral responses in the same optical path, which allowed a compact probe design. The probe was designed to suit temperature measurements in harsh environments with the advantage of durability. The developed two-color probe is capable of detecting particle cloud temperature as low as $300^{\circ}C$, under dynamic conditions.
To visually and chemically verify the rainout of soot particles, a model experiment was carried out with the cylindrical chamber (0.2 m (D) and 4 m (H)) installing a cloud drop generator, a hydrotherometer, a particle counter, a drop collector, a diffusing drier, and an artificial soot particle distributer. The processes of the model experiment were as follows; generating artificial cloud droplets (major drop size : $12-14{\mu}m$) until supersaturation reach at 0.52%-nebulizing of soot particles (JIS Z 8901) with an average size of $0.5{\mu}m$-counting cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) particles and droplets by OPC and the fixation method (Ma et al., 2011; Carter and Hasegawa, 1975), respectively - collecting of individual cloud drops - observation of individual cloud drops by SEM - chemical identifying of residual particle in each individual droplet by SEM-EDX. After 10 minutes of the completion of soot particle inject, the number concentrations of PM of all sizes (> $0.3{\mu}m$) dramatically decreased. The time required to return to the initial conditions, i.e., the time needed to CCN activation for the fed soot particles was about 40 minutes for the PM sized from $0.3-2.0{\mu}m$. The EDX spectra of residual particles left at the center of individual droplet after evaporation suggest that the soot particles seeded into our experimental chamber obviously acted as CCN. The coexistence of soot and mineral particle in single droplet was probably due to the coalescence of droplets (i.e., two droplets embodying different particles (in here, soot and background mineral particles) were coalesced) or the particle capture by a droplet in our CCN chamber.

Cloud computing system consists of distributed resources in a dynamic and decentralized environment. Therefore, using cloud computing resources efficiently and getting the maximum profits are still challenging problems to the cloud service providers and cloud service users. It is important to provide the efficient scheduling. To schedule cloud resources, numerous heuristic algorithms such as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Genetic Algorithm (GA), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Cuckoo Search (CS) algorithms have been adopted. The paper proposes a Modified Particle Swarm Optimization (MPSO) algorithm to solve the above mentioned issues. We first formulate an optimization problem and propose a Modified PSO optimization technique. The performance of MPSO was evaluated against PSO, and GA. Our experimental results show that the proposed MPSO minimizes the task execution time, and maximizes the resource utilization rate.
In order to predict the thermal radiation induced from alumina particle cloud in the plume of solid propellant motor, view factor method is applied to space shuttle SRB and the result is compared with that of monte carlo method. For this purpose, radiative characteristics, such as particle cloud temperature distribution, effective emissivity or emissive power of particle cloud are studied. In the case of effective emissivity, inverse wavelength method is applied and plume reduction characteristic length is used for emissive power distribution. As a result, thermal radiation using view factor method gives more conservative results than that using monte carlo method. So it can be used for preliminary design of thermal protection system.
LES model of a cumulus cloud is developed in which the motion of a large number of water droplets are explicitly simulated. Model provides various important information of the cloud process such as entrainment and internal mixing, the distribution of droplets within cloud, and the evolution of particle size spectrum.

This study was undertaken to measure the properties of individual mineral particles in an artificially saturated atmosphere at a vertical extinct mine with 430 m height. By synchrotron radiation X-ray fluorescence (SR-XRF) microprobe analysis, it was possible to determine the elemental composition of residual insoluble particles on individual cloud droplet replicas formed on the Collodion film. The XRF visualized elemental maps enabled us not only to presume the chemical mixing state of particles retained in cloud droplet, but also to estimate their source. Details about the individual mineral particles captured by artificial cloud droplets should be helpful to understand about the removal characteristics of dust particles such as interaction with clouds. Nearly all individual particles captured in cloud droplets are strongly enriched in Fe. Mass of Fe is ranged between 41 fg and 360 fg with average 112 fg. There is a good agreement between single particle analysis by SR-XRF and bulk particle analysis by PIXE.
Cloud's properties can be showed on different spectral channel. The 0.65${\mu}$m reflectance is mainly function of cloud optical thickness and reflectance of 1.6${\mu}$m is sensitive to cloud phase and particle size distribution. So we can use multi-spectral information to analysis cloud's microphysical properties.
The collision efficiency data for collision between graupel or hail particles and cloud drops that take into account the differences of particle density are applied to the Takahashi cloud model. The original setting assumes that graupel or hail collision efficiency is the same as that of the cloud drops of the same volume. The Takahashi cloud model is run with the new collision efficiency data and the results are compared with those with the original. As an initial condition, a thermodynamic profile that can initiate strong convection is provided. Three different CCN concentration values and therefore three initial cloud drop spectra are prescribed that represent maritime (CCN concentration = 300 $cm^{-3}$), continental (1000 $cm^{-3}$) and extreme continental (5000 $cm^{-3}$) air masses to examine the aerosol effects on cloud and precipitation development. Increase of CCN concentration causes cloud drop sizes to decrease and cloud drop concentrations to increase. However, the concentration of ice particles decreases with the increase of CCN concentration because small drops are difficult to freeze. These general trends are well captured by both model runs (one with the new collision efficiency data and the other with the original) but there are significant differences: with the new data, the development of cloud and raindrop formation are delayed by (1) decrease of ice collision efficiency, (2) decrease of latent heat from riming process and (3) decrease of ice crystals generated by ice multiplication. These results indicate that the model run with the original collision efficiency data overestimates precipitation rates.
Innovations from current researches on cloud computing such as applying bio-inspired computing techniques have brought new level solutions in offloading mechanisms. With the growing trend of mobile devices, mobile cloud computing can also benefit from applying bio-inspired techniques. Energy-efficient offloading mechanisms on mobile cloud systems are needed to reduce the total energy consumption but previous works did not consider energy consumption in the decision-making of task distribution. This paper proposes the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) as an offloading strategy of cloudlet to data centers where each task is represented as a particle during the process. The collected tasks are classified using K-means clustering on the cloudlet before applying PSO in order to minimize the number of particles and to locate the best data center for a specific task, instead of considering all tasks during the PSO process. Simulation results show that the proposed PSO excels in choosing data centers with respect to energy consumption, while it has accumulated a little more processing time compared to the other approaches.
An algorithm was developed to retrieve both cloud optical thickness and effective particle radius considered the aerosol effect on clouds. This study apply the algorithm of Nakajima and Nakajima (1995) that is used to retrieve cloud optical thickness and effective particle radius from visible, near infrared satellite spectral measurements. To retrieve cloud properties, Look-up table (LUT) was made under different atmospheric conditions by using a radiative transfer model. Especially the vertical distribution of aerosol is based on a tropospheric aerosol profile in radiative transfer model. In the case study, we selected the extensive forest fire occurred in Russia in May 2003. The aerosol released from this fire may be transported to Korea. Cloud properties obtained from these distinct atmospheric situations are analysed in terms of their possible changes due to the interactions of the clouds with the aerosol particle plumes. Cloud properties over the East sea at this time was retrieved using new algorithm. The algorithm is applied to measurements from the MODerate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MODIS) onboard the Terra spacecrafts. As a result, cloud effective particle radius was decreased and cloud optical thickness was increased during aerosol event. Specially, cloud effective particle radius is hardly greater than $20{\mu}m$ when aerosol particles were present over the East Sea. Clouds developing in the aerosol event tend to have more numerous but smaller droplets.
