We measured experimentally the properties of fluid dynamics, velocity fields, and the pressure, around stenotic obstruction located inside a circular channel structure. Particle image velocimetry system was employed to obtain velocity fields at the central section of the circular channel in the streamwise direction. The stenosis model used was made of acrylic material with different stenotic aspect ratios. The working fluid was water and it was returned by a centrifugal pump system. Pressure measurements were carried out to validate the effect of a narrow passageway. Results showed that the acceleration of gap flow through stenotic obstruction and the pressure drop in the recirculation regime behind the stenosis model can be observed.

An experimental research was performed to study turbulent flow characteristic in a $90^{\circ}$ circular bend by using the PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) method, this study found the time-mean velocity distribution, time-mean turbulent intensity with turbulent flow for Re = 10,000, 15,000, 20,000, and 25,000 along the test bend. It was found that the highest streamwise velocity of turbulent flow occurs near y/D = 0.5 and the flow moved to y/D =0.15. The peak turbulence intensity shifted toward the concave wall from $\theta= 45 and as \theta$ increased. the intensity decayed along the test tube.

The flow characteristics of polluted air are analysed by comparing the results obtained from PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) experiment and CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) commercial code. In order to simulate the polluted air flow, the olive oil has been used as tracer particles with the kinematic viscosity of air, $1.51{\times}10^{-5}m^2/s$. The investigation has done in the range of Reynolds numbers of 870, 1730 and 2890 due to the inlet flow velocities of 0.3, 0.6, and 1.0 m/s, respectively. The average velocity and the pressure distributions are comparatively discussed with respect to the three different Reynolds numbers. The results show that the outlet flow rates at three different Reynolds numbers are equivalent of 165 to 167 percent of the inlet ones. The pressure drop occurs in the model closed at both end sides and the highest pressures at each Reynolds number are positioned at the top of the tunnel between the inlet and outlet.
An experimental investigation was performed to study the characteristics of ER(Electro-Rheological) fluid flow in a horizontal rectangular tube with or without D.C voltage. To determine some characteristics of the ER flow, 2D PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) technique is employed for velocity measurement. This research found the mean velocity distribution with 0kV/mm, 1.0kV/mm and 1.5kV/mm for Re = 0, 0.62, 1.29 and 2.26. When the strength of the electric field increased, the cluster of ERF are clearly strong along the test tube and the flow rate decreased. In this study, the rheology of ER fluid stagnating or flowing through a dispersion meter will be investigated by PIV method. And then the ER effect, which appears at the ER valves and their appliance will be visualized.
Many researchers have developed the measurement technique of in-cylinder flow characteristics and found the effect of intake port geometries on engine performance. The flow characteristics of four-valve cylinder head were examined in a steady flow rig for different intake ports. Tumble intensity of intake configurations with different entry angles were quantified with a tumble meter. The velocity and angular momentum distributions in the tumble adaptor were measured under steady conditions with PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry). We have obtained the results that flow structure becomes complicated by valve interference at low valve lift. As the valve interferences were reducing and the flow pattern changed to large vortex structure with tumble direction, intake ports with different entry angles have different tumble centers. Tumble eccentricity of intake port with low entry angle was large, so that the port had relatively much angular momentum compared to others which was expected to improve combustion performance.
Thermal flows inside a laser printer are affected by generated heat from a fuser and boards. Thus, the effect of fans has been investigated to control the thermal flows and behaviors of toners. In order to analyze the phenomena experimentally, a PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) has been used, and then the flow inside the printer has been predicted by the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) in this study to determine the efficient flow distribution by an optimum design of the printer. The determined optimum design has been confirmed by the developed PIV technique so that the efficiency of the laser printer can be improved by the proposed design.
The effects of surface roughness on a turbulent boundary layer (TBL) were investigated using particle image velocimetry (PIV). The roughness elements used were periodically arranged two-dimensional spanwise rods, and the roughness height was ${\kappa}/{\delta}$. Introduction of the roughness elements increased the wake strength and the turbulent stress not only in the roughness sublayer but also in the outer layer. This indicates the existence of interaction between inner and outer layers for 2D rod-roughened wall. Roughness effects on a turbulence structure near the wall were obtained by PIV measurements. Iso-contours of mean velocities and Reynolds stresses in the roughness sublayer showed a very good agreement with previous DNS results.
The flow characteristics in a confined slot jet impinging on a flat plate were Investigated by using cinematic Particle Image Velocimetry technique. The jet Reynolds number was varied from 250 to 1000 for a fixed jet-to-plate spacing of H/W=5. We found that the vortical structures in the shear layer are developed with increase of Reynolds number and that the jet becomes unsteady by the interaction of vortex pairs between 500 and 750 of Reynolds number. Vortical structures and their temporal evolution are verified by using cinematic Particle Image Velocimetry technique.
The present paper investigated the effect of ultrasonic vibrations on the melting process of a phase-change material (PCM). The melting process in the square cavity with a heated vertical wall has been studied in terms of acoustic streaming. In the present study, applying with ultrasonic vibrations to the liquid were found to induce acoustic streaming which was clearly observed using by a particle image velocimetry (PIV) and a thermal infrared camera. The experimental results revealed that acoustic streaming could accelerate the melting process as much as 2.5 times, compared to the rate of natural melting (i. e., the melting without acoustic streaming). In addition, temperature and Nusselt numbers over time provided conclusive evidence of the important role of the acoustic streaming on the melting phenomena of the PCM.
Two engines, one is conventional DOHC 4 valve and the other is narrow valve angle, were used to compare the characteristics of swirl motion generation in the cylinder. One intake port is deactivated to induce swirl flow. A PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) was applied to measure in-cylinder velocity field according to inlet valve angle during intake and compression stroke. The results show that the flow patterns of narrow valve engine are much more stable and well arranged compared with the normal engine over the entire intake and compression stroke except early intake stage, and very strong swirl motion is generated at the end of compression stage in this engine nevertheless using straight port which is unfavorable for swirl generating. In the normal engine, however, strong swirl motion induced during intake stroke is destroyed as the compression progresses.
