The purpose of this study is to investigate analytically the flexural behavior of beam reinforced by an alkali-activated slag-based fiber-reinforced composite. The materials and mixture proportion were selected to manufacture an alkali-activated slag-based fiber-reinforced composite with high tensile strain capacity over 7% and compressive strength and tension tests were performed. The composite showed a compressive strength of 32.7MPa, a tensile strength of 8.43MPa, and a tensile strain capacity of 7.52%. In order to analyze the flexural behavior of beams reinforced by ultra-high-ductile composite, nonlinear sectional analysis was peformed for four types of beams. Analysis showed that the flexural strength of beam reinforced partially by ultra-high-ductile composite increased by 8.0%, and the flexural strength of beam reinforced fully by ultra-high-ductile composite increased by 24.7%. It was found that the main reason of low improvement in flexural strength is the low tensile strain at the bottom of beam. The tensile strain at bottom corresponding to the flexural strength was 1.38% which was 18.4% of tensile strain capacity of the composite.
Slimfloor composite-beam systems could considerably reduce the story height of a building if the steel beam would be installed deep into the concrete floor slab. However, as the depth of the steel beam's installation is limited, it cannot cope with the various demands of building systems. To address this problem, a profiled steel beam section that can control the depth of the steel beam's and slabs' installation was developed in this study. Presented herein are the results of an experiment that was conducted focusing on the flexural behavior of the partially connected composite beams with profiled steel beams encased in composite concrete slabs. Five full-scale specimens with different slab types, with or without shear connection and reinforcement bars, were constructed and tested in this study. As a result, the shear bond stress without an additional shear connection was found to be $0.20{\sim}0.76N/mm^2$due to the inherent mechanical and chemical bond stress.
An innovative Partially Precast Steel Reinforced Concrete (PPSRC) beam is presented in this paper. To study the shear behavior of PPSRC beams, static loading experiments were conducted on 10 specimens, including 4 T-beam specimens and 4 PPSRC inverted T-beam specimens together with 2 PPSRC rectangular section beams. In the tests, the shear behaviors of the PPSRC beams were emphasized. On the basis of the experiments, the failure mode and ultimate bearing capacity were thoroughly examined. The calculation methods for shear capacity are also presented in this paper. The analysis of mechanical behavior and the calculation methods presented can be used as a reference to design these innovative composite PPSRC beams and provide a significant foundation for further research.
New strengthening method based on Near Surface Mounted technique (NSM) is suggested, which can overcome the brittle nature of failure inherent to those reinforced concrete beams strengthened with FRP composite materials. The suggested technique secures ductile failure of reinforced concrete beams by having the strengthening Hybrid FRP rebars unbonded in parts. Experiments were performed in order to compare structural behaviors of strengthened beams with and without unbending along the Hybrid FRP rebars. Test results showed that only those beams strengthened by partially unbonded NSM failed in ductile manner. Theoretical expressions were derived for the minimum unbonded length of Hybrid FRP rebars with which ultimate strength of the reinforced concrete beam with partially unbonded NSM could be reached. The suggested partially unbonded NSM technique is expected to significantly improve the structural behavior of the strengthened beam with FRP composite materials.

This paper deals with the flexural behaviors of R.C beams strengthened by carbon fiber sheets. The behaviors of strengthened beams which were preloaded up to 50%, 60% and 70% of the ultimate load of unstrengthened beam are compared with that of a beam which was not preloaded. The structural behaviors of strengthened beams are compared with analytical method in terms of load-strain of concrete, load-strain of steel bar, load-strain of CFS and falilure load. Four cases of analytical method are investigated according to cracked section or partially cracked section and including strain hardening effect of steel bar or not. Comparing the results of test and analysis, both are similar in terms of load-strain of concrete, and falilure load, the results of analytical method underestimate the failure load. But each results of load-strain of steel bar, load-strain of CFS near at failure is some different, thus near at failure the composite action between CFS and upper concrete is assumed to be disturbed. Consequently, the analytical method was proved to be efficient and accurate in estimating the flexural response of CFS strengthened RC beams.

The steel-plate concrete composite beam is composed of a steel plate, concrete and shear connector to combine two inhomogeneous materials. In general, the steel plate is assembled by welding an existing composite beam. In this study, the SPC beam was composed of folding steel plates and concrete, without a headed stud. The folding steel plate was assembled by a high strength bolt instead of welding. To improve the workability in a field construction, a hat-shaped cap was attached to the junction with a slab. Monotonic load testing under two points was conducted under displacement control mode to analyze the flexural strength of the SPC beam using a cap as the shear connector. Five specimens with shear connector types, protrusion length, and different thickness of steel plates were constructed and tested. The experimental results were analyzed through the relationship between the shear strength ratio and flexural strength in KBC 2009. The test results showed a shear strength ratio of more than 40 %. In the case of using a cap-like specimen as the shear connector, the flexural strength was 70% of the value calculated as a fully composite beam. In addition, the cap showed a smaller shear strength than the stud, but the cap served as a shear connection. When the thickness of the steel plate was taken as a variable, the steel plate exhibited a bending strength of approximately 70% compared to a fully formed steel plate, and exhibited similar deformation performance. Local buckling occurred due to incomplete composite behavior, but local buckling occurred at a 5% higher strength for a relatively thick steel plate. The buckling width also decreased by 15%.
This study investigated the effects of a shear slip on the deflection of steel-concretecomposite beams with partial shear interaction. Under the guidance of various current design codes, this deflection was related to the strength of shear connectors in the composite beams. In this paper, a shear connector stiffness based on exact solutions, regardless of loading conditions, was developed. The equivalent rigidity of composite beams that considered three different loading types was first derived, based on equilibrium and curvature compatibility, from which a general formula accounting for slips was developed. To validate this approach, the predicted maximum deflection under the proposed method was compared against currently used equations to calculate beam effective stiffness (AISC)Nie's equations, which have recently been proposed. For typical beams that were used in practice, shear slips might result in stiffness reduction of up to 18% for short-span beams. For full composite sections, the effective section modulus with the AISC specifications was larger than that of the present study, which meant that the specifications were not conservative. For partial composite sections, the AISC predictions were more conservative than those in the present study.
We analyzed the experimental and theoretical behavior of a particular type of steel joint designed to connect beam to beam and able to transfer both shear forces and bending moments. This joint is characterized by the use of steel plates and bolts enclosed in the width of the beams. The experimental investigation was carried out characterizing the constituent materials and testing in flexure beams constituted by two portions of beams connected in the middle with the joint proposed. Connections having different characteristics in terms of thickness of plates, number and type of bolts were utilized. Flexure tests allow one to determine the loaddeflection curves of the beam tested and the moment-rotation diagrams of the connections, highlighting the strength and the strain capacity of the joints. The proposed analytical model allows one to determine the moment-rotation relationship of the connections, pointing out the influence of the principal geometrical and mechanic characteristics of single constituents on the full properties of the joint.

This study tackles the development of an improved detail of partially restrained CFT square column-to-beam connection and the evaluation of its mechanical behavior under monotonic loading. The connection is designed to strengthen shearing capacity at the bottom of the connection due to the ultimate behavior of PR-CC by its detail of the bottom connection and simplify the fabrication process. The suggested connection is the welded bottom beam flange connection(M-2) and is compared with the existing PR-CC of bolted seat angle connection(M-1). Two specimens were fabricated in actual size and tested under monotonic loading. Based on the test results, the welded bottom beam flange connection exhibited about 85% of the stiffness of steel beam. It was similar to the bolted seat angle connection and behaved as PR-CC. The specimen of the supposed connection type failed at the shear connection of web but was similar to the bolted seat angle connection until the failure. It obtained sufficient stiffness and capacity through the reinforcingsteel and the capacity and deformational ability equivalent to the full-plastic moment through the anchor inside the steel tube at the web connection. So, it can be said that the suggested connection exhibits sufficient ductile behavior.

A new kind of partially precast or prefabricated castellated steel reinforced concrete beam, which is abbreviated here as CPSRC beam, was presented and introduced in this paper. This kind of CPSRC beam is composed of a precast outer-part and a cast-in-place inner-part. The precast outer-part is composed of an encased castellated steel shape, reinforcement bars and high performance concrete. The cast-in-place inner-part is made of common strength concrete, and is casted with the floor slabs simultaneously. In order to investigate the shear performance of the CPSRC beam, experiments of six CPSRC T-beam specimens, together with experiments of one cast-in-place SRC control T-beam specimen were conducted. All the specimens were subjected to sagging bending moment (or positive moment). In the tests, the influence of casting different strength of concrete in the cross section on the shear performance of the PPSRC beam was firstly emphasized, and the effect of the shear span-to-depth ratio on that were also especially taken into account too. During the tests, the shear force-deflection curves were recorded, while the strains of concrete, the steel shapes as well as the reinforcement stirrups at the shear zone of the specimens were also measured, and the crack propagation pattern together with the failure pattern was as well observed in detail. Based on the test results, the shear failure mechanism was clearly revealed, and the effect of the concrete strength and shear span-to-depth ratios were investigated. The shear capacity of such kind of CPSRC was furthermore discussed, and the influences of the holes on the steel shape on the shear performance were particularly analyzed.
