  • LCVA has an advantage that its natural frequency can be easily controlled by changing the area ratio of the vertical column and horizontal part. The previous studies investigated the dynamic characteristics of the LCVA under harmonic load. This study experimentally obtained the first and second mode natural frequencies of the LCVA from shaking table tests using white noise and compared the values with the ones by previous study. Test results show that the measured first mode natural frequency of the LCVA has a different value compared with calculated one. The effective length($L_e$) was revised using by power equation. In the Case01 to 19, the standard deviation($s_r$) is 4.7292 and the coefficient of correlation(r) is 0.9856. In the Case21 to 61, the standard deviation ($s_r$) is 14.2143 and the coefficient of correlation(r) is 0.9935. The second mode frequency increases with the increasing area ratio, which is due to the sloshing motion effect resulting from the large area of the vertical column.

  • A gasoline direct injection single cylinder engine has been developed to study operational characteristics for highly stratified conditions. Parameters related to design and experiment were also studied to understand the characteristics of combustion and emissions at some part load conditions. It was found that optimal timings between the end of fuel injection and spark ignition were existed for stable combustion under the stratified modes, In a low engine speed, fuel spray behavior around piston bowl was important for stable combustion. The in-cylinder air motion affecting fuel spray behavior was found to be a dominant factor at higher engine speed as fuel injection timing had to be advanced to secure enough time for fuel evaporation and mixing with surrounding air. As swirl ratio increased, spark timing could be advanced for stable combustion and a higher compression ratio could be used for improved fuel consumption and stable combustion at the stratified mode. It was also observed that electrode geometry and piston bowl shape played an important role for combustion and emission characteristics and some results were shown for comparison.

  • In a $2{\times}2$ factorial experiment the hypotheses tested were that the metabolic acid load caused by benzoic acid (BA) added to the feed affects bone mineralization of weanling pigs, and that a wide dietary calcium (Ca) to phosphorus (P) ratio in phytase-supplemented feeds with a marginal P concentration has a positive effect on bone mineralization. The four experimental diets, which contained 0.4% P and were supplemented with 1,000 FTU phytase/kg, contained either 5 g BA/kg or no BA and either 0.77% Ca or 0.57% Ca. The 68 four-week-old Large White pigs were fed the experimental diets ad libitum for six weeks and were then slaughtered. Benzoic acid increased feed intake (p = 0.009) and growth rate (p = 0.051), but did not influence the feed conversion ratio (p>0.10). Benzoic acid decreased the pH of the urine (p = 0.031), but did not affect breaking strength and mineralization of the tibia (p>0.10). The wide Ca:P ratio decreased feed intake (p = 0.034) and growth rate (p = 0.007) and impaired feed the conversion ratio (p = 0.027), but increased the mineral concentration in the fat-free DM of the tibia (p = 0.013) without influencing its breaking strength (p>0.10). The observed positive effect of the wide Ca:P ratio on bone mineralization may be attributed, at least in part, to the impaired feed conversion ratio, i.e. to the higher feed intake and consequently to the higher mineral intake per kg BW gain. The negative impact on animal performance of the wide dietary Ca:P ratio outweighs its potentially positive effect on bone mineralization, precluding its implementation under practical feeding conditions.

  • In this study, as part of a study to improve the self-healing performance of concrete structures by applying self-healing capsules made of cementitious materials to cement composite materials, the engineering characteristics of mortars according to PCC(Powder Compacted Capsule) size and mixing ratio were compared and analyzed. For this, fluidity, compressive strength, reload test, carbonation, ultrasonic velocity, and water permeability characteristics were measured according to PCC size and mixing ratio of mortar. As a result of the measurement, the fluidity and compressive strength increased as the mixing ratio of PCC increased, and in the case of the load reload test, the healing ratio increased as the mixing ratio of PCC increased in the 03PC formulation. In the case of water permeability test, it was found that when PCC was used, the reduction ratio of water flow was up to 35 % higher than that of Plain, and when PCC with a size of 0.3 to 0.6 mm was mixed with 15 %, it was found to be effective in improving the crack healing ratio of the mortar.

  • Hypereutectic Al-25Si alloy, which is expected to be applied to the cylinder-liner-part of the engine-block of an automobile due to its excellent wear resistance, low density and low thermal expansion coefficient, has been fabricated through a spray forming process. The obtained microstructure of the hypereutectic Al-25Si alloy appeared to consist of Al matrix and equiaxed Si particles of average diameter of 5-7 mm. To characterize the deformation behavior of this alloy, a series of load relaxation and compression tests have been conducted at temperatures ranging from RT to $500^{\circ}C$. The strain rate sensitivity parameter (m) of this alloy has been found to be very low (0.1) below $400^{\circ}C$ and reached maximum value of about 0.2 at $500^{\circ}C$. During the deformation above $300^{\circ}C$ in compression, strain softening has been observed. The diagram of extrusion pressure vs. ram-speed has been constructed. The extrusion has been successfully conducted at the temperatures of $300^{\circ}C$ and above with the ratio of area reduction of 28 and 40 in this study.

  • This paper proposes a packet header collector, based on a network processor with multi-processor and multi-threads, that shows a high throughput on gigabit network. The proposed collector has an architecture to separate packets coming from gigabit network into headers and payloads, and distribute them to multiple 100Mbit MAC ports. The architecture hiring a unique buffer management method and load distribution strategy among multiple processors is evaluated empirically in depth.

  • Preform design techniques have been investigated in efforts to reduce die wear and forming load and to improve material flow, filing ratio, etc. In hot forging processes, a thin deformed part of a workpiece, known as a flash, is formed in the narrow gap between the upper and lower tools. Although designers make tools that generate a flash intentionally in order to improve flow properties, excessive flash increases die wear and forming load. Therefore, it is necessary to make a preform shape that can reduce the excessive flash without changing flow properties. In this paper, a new preform design technique is proposed to reduce the excessive flash in a metal forging process. After a finite element simulation of the process is carried out with an initial billet, the flow of material in the flash region is traced from the final shape to the initial billet. The region belonging to the flash is then easily found in the initial billet. The finite element simulation is then carried out again with the modified billet from which the selected region has been removed. In several iterations of this technique, the optimal preform shape that minimizes the amount of flash without changing the forgeability can be obtained.

  • Unstiffened and stiffened cylindrically curved plates are often used in ship structures. For example, they can be found on a deck with a camber, a side shell at the fore and aft parts, and the circular bilge part of a ship structure. It is believed that such cylindrically curved plates can be fundamentally modelled using a portion of a circular cylinder. From estimations using cylindrically curved plate models, it is known that the curvature generally increases the buckling strength compared to a flat plate under axial compression. The existence of curvature is also expected to increase both the ultimate and buckling strengths. In the present study, a series of finite element analyses were conducted on stiffened curved plates with several varying parameters such as the curvature, panel slenderness ratio, and web height and type of stiffener applied. The results of numerical calculations on stiffened and unstiffened curved plates were examined to clarify the influences of such parameters on the characteristics of their buckling/plastic collapse behavior and strength under an axial compression.

  • MEMS technology with micro scale is complete system utilized as the sensor. micro electro device. The metallization of MEMS is very important to transfer the power operating the sensor and signal induced from sensor part. But in the MEMS structures local stress concentration and deformation is often happened by geometrical shape and different constraint on the metallization. Therefore. this paper studies the effect of supporting type and thickness ratio about thin film thickness of the substrate thickness for the residual stress variation caused by thermal load in the multi-layer thin film. Specimens were made from materials such as Al, Au and Cu and uniform thermal load was applied, repeatedly. The residual stress was measured by FEA and nano-indentation using AFM. Generally, the specimen made of Al induced the large residual stress and the 1st layer made of Al reduced the residual stress about half percent than 2nd layer. Specimen made of Cu and Au being the lower thermal expansion coefficient induce the minimum residual stress. Similarly the lowest indentation length was measured in the Au_Cu specimen by nano-indentation.
