  • Among various methods to manufacture the PDP barrier ribs, the pressing and the roll forming methods are simple and economical because they form the ribs by utilizing the plastic flow of the green tape in a relatively short time without generating air-polluting dusts. In the present study, the roll forming method was investigated by experiments as well as numerical analyses and in result the groove roll and the preform were designed. The effect of draft angle, comer radius, and initial thickness of the green tape on the plastic flow was examined by a series of parametric studies. The preform was recommended to ease the plastic flow into the grooves and to avoid the occurrence of crack during rolling and sintering processes.

  • This study aims to offer psychological stability and pleasure by reducing noise perception using appropriate visual information which fit to the situation and useful data for the soundscape design. The results can be summarized as follows; 1) In the Loudness evaluation of the visual information with green colored scenary showed lower evaluation rather than the other colors. 2) With the Green and Blue colored scenary with road traffic and shopping street alongside the road, lower perception of road traffic noise was showed. 3) With the White and Red scenary higher evaluation was showed than the original sound, but with the Green colored scenary lower evaluation was showed than the standard sound.

  • Buildings receive solar radiation through windows and the solar radiation helps to save heating energy in winter. Therefore the bigger the glazing ratio is, the larger the amount of solar radiation we can receive. In this study we analysed the glazing ratio of Certified Green Building Apartments. And we verified whether the glazing ratio reflects energy saving through accepting solar radiation with correlation analysis. For glazing ratio analysis, we selected 116 apartment buildings of 19 apartment complexes that certified in 2008-2009 and took pictures of outside windows of the buildings. After that, we analysed the building's glazing ratio with 4 azimuth and checked distinction of the glazing ratio between 6 coupled azimuths. And we analysed the correlation between importance order of azimuth for energy saving and the glazing ratio change with the azimuth. The analysis showed that the glazing ratio does not reflect energy saving through accepting solar radiation.

  • The cold shock of spermatozoa is associated with oxidative stress induced by reactive oxygen species. This study was conducted to evaluate the toxicity of natural antioxidant green tea extract (GTE) in lactose-egg yolk (LEY) extender during boar sperm cooling prior to freezing. Spermatozoa were cooled to $5^{\circ}C$ for 3 h in LEY extender containing 0 (control), 1, 10, 100 or 1,000 mg/l of GTE, re-suspended with LEY-glycerol-Equex extender and cooled at $5^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. Sperm progressive motility, viability and phosphatidylserine (PS) translocation were evaluated. PS translocation was assayed by flow cytometry using Annexin V-FITC apoptosis detection kit. The sperm function including progressive motility, viability and PS translocation was not significantly different regardless of GTE concentrations (P>0.05). In conclusion, this study demonstrated non-toxicity of GTE supplement in LEY extender during sperm cooling.

  • An efficacy test of PRP (polyribosylribitol phosphate)-TT (Tetanus toxoid) conjugate vaccines was carried out using BALB/c mice as an animal model by inoculating Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) with a virulence enhancement factor (VEF). Three administrations of the conjugate vaccines at 2-week intervals elicited a significantly high level of PRP antibodies (P>0.0001). The protective activity of the PRP immunization was challenged with either Hib with iron dextran (Hib/) or with a combination of mucin and hemoglobin (Hibmh) as a VEF. The medium lethal dose $(LD_{50})$ for Hibmh and Hibiwas measured as 10 CFU (Colony Forming Unit) and $2.5{\times}10^{8}$ CFU respectively. Each immunized animal was challenged with five or ten times the $LD_{50}$ level of bacteria with a VEF. A significant difference in mortality between the immunized and control mice (P> 0.01) was observed with the Hibmh challenge inoculation but not with the Hibi challenge inoculation. These results show that a combination of mucin and hemoglobin was able to enhance the virulence of Hib in BALB/c mice to cause a lethal infection, thus suggesting that BALB/c mice introduced to this method can be an effective model animal for testing the protective efficacy of H. influenzae conjugate vaccines.

  • This study was carried to select artichoke (Cynara scolymus L.) varieties that can be cultivated in non-heated greenhouse during winter in Jeju Island in Korea. Artichoke varieties namely, 'Purple Romagna' (Neseed Co.), 'Imperial Star' (Keithley Williams Seed Co.), 'Green Globe' (Park Seed Co.), 'Emerald' (Ferry-morse Seed Co.), 'Italian' (Unknown), and 'Carciofo Di Romagna' (Lortolano), were raised in a plug tray with 72 cells for two months and transplanted in a non-heated greenhouse on October 5, 2004. The first harvesting of 'Emerald' and 'Imperial Star' were the earliest and April 26 and 27, 2005 respectively. Most of the varieties were harvested from early May to June 2005. The number of head per plant was the highest in 'Green Globe' with more than five heads and the lowest were recorded in 'Italian' with one head or less. The weight of heads per plant was more than 228 g in 'Purple Romagna', 'Imperial Star' and 'Green Globe'. The highest yield was in 'Green Globe' with 2,172 kg/10a, followed by 'Imperial Star' with 1,947 kg/10a. Accordingly, it is considered that 'Green Globe' and 'Imperial Star' are adequate for the high-yield cultivation in non-heated greenhouse in Jeju Island. They can be harvested from the April to June when cultivated from the early October of the previous year.
